Absolutely, probably more people in Tyrone know about her than in Sligo but that's life I suppose. There was a pub opened in Strandhill called "The Countess" which featured plenty of pictures and memorabilia of said lady. Unbelievably there were letters and srticles in the papers condemning it! Wild blueshirts about the place down here.
Is it still there?

Last time I was in Strandhill I called in there for a few and found the photos really interesting

Under new management with a new name but think some of the photos might still be there.
I was in over the summer there and looked everywhere but no sign of any photos of Countess Markievicz, from what I could gather the owner isn't particularly liked locally.

Hope someone has the photos that were in it, that would be a fine exhibition all by itself

She taught them the art of bandaging.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

I think Nan Sands Park is still the name of Saval's ground. Named after a local councillor who did mighty work for the area....oh and she was Mickey Linden's grandmother as well.

She wasn't even a Countess, but called herself one. Not very Republican in my books.

Yes, you don't automatically get a title.

A monarchy based title doesn't really sit well with the meaning of Republican. Unless your definition of Republican is blowing stuff up rather than true Republicanism.

"True" republicans have never blown things up then??
And aside from using her title as a cheap means of attacking her, in what way was she not a republican? Surely her actions throughout her life of activism, rather than her title, is what defines her?
