heading away at the start of June on a J1 visa to Chicago. Was jsut wondering has anyone else done this before? I don't plan on playing much football so does anyone know what the availability of work is like out there in bars etc..? Maybe anyone else who has visited the city before could give me some advice as to living costs places to go/not go etc.

Watch out for the cougars.

Is that the baseball team?

 ;D

The Cubs are the baseball team on the Northside of Chicago, the White Sox are on the South side. I've not spent a lot of time in the Windy city, but if I recall correctly the 'Irish' part is the south side, down around Oaklawn and places like that. I stayed there for two weekends playing football, and that's what I think was the case.

Downtown Chicago is nice, and we drank in Fadó, so there may be work there if you look for it.

The Fado pub? Is that where Niamh Cinn Or drinks?

There's a string of them all over the states. There's one in Atlanta, and in DC as well at least. when you live over there, they are a taste of home. Decent (note Decent) Guinness, and tayto and cadbury Chocolate. Lucozade as well! :D
