great memories. I was behind the goals for all 3 games.

Wim Kieft's goal must have been a right WTF moment in real time. Even with replays it seemed scarcely credible.

was working in general motors in oshawa Canada that summer
had a fistful of coins to ring home for the score- no mobiles then
bewteen ringing home to see how the republic were doing in their games and how Armagh( waste of money) and club did it cost a fortune.

Shamrock Shore

Ah that glorious day in Rathmines as the place went mental.

Watched in dingy flat in Grove Park on ye olde black and white portable. Was doing exams the next day so no gargle.

I suppose only the GPO in 1916 surpasses Stuttgart for the number who claimed to have been there.

Celtic Park Derry 1994

My brother-in-law is going out with a woman from Newry. The first thing I'm going to ask her when we meet is whether she was at that game. NB I already know what school she went to ;)

T Fearon

Which was the better achievement though, beating mediocre England in Stuttgard, or an Italian side laden with Baresi,Baggio, etc in Giants Stadium in 1994. Same player put the ball in the net too.

Good point. In fairness Houghton is probably the best Scot we ever had on the books.  That said James McCarthy has time on his side to displace him...

/Jim.

From the Bunker

He (Houghton) missed a sitter in Wembley in a Euro qualifier in 1991. We would have beaten the auld enemy on home turf and that would have been sweet! They pipped us by a point in that qualifying group! To add insult to injury, Denis Wise scored a winner v Turkey in that qualifying group with his hand!  >:(
