Just because he was doing commentary for BBC doesn't mean he has to refer to himself as being British and refer to Ireland as they. At one point he complained about them (being Ireland) not giving us (UK) points. If Graeme Souness was working for RTE on a Ireland Scotland game I would not expect him to refer to Ireland as us and Scotland as them. In fact I'd think he was an idiot if he did.
Well said.
I was cringing at the way he was going on.

So what? No big deal, Terry did it for years and Greene does for 5 Live. Don't listen to them and you'll be fine!
and I cringe when other people do it too? What's your point?

My point is this, don't watch him, listen to him and you wont have any problems of cringing!!

You're life is pretty sad if things like that annoy you
Would you get a grip milltown, the only one seems to be getting wound up about this is you.
I don't particularly care that much, I didn't lie awake last night thinking about it or anything like that - I actually quite like Norton and thought he was quite funny last night it's just his constant "we" references that irked me. Is it alright to say that? because this is the real world where things are discussed.

He was doing it while on C4 too O'Neill. He might represent the BBC but that doesn't mean he's changed nationality.
An Italian Man city manager will see "we" as he's part of the team. You wouldn't expect him to start saying "we" in relation to the English team would you?

Sorry, but in my opinion that's bollocks again. Did what on channel 4? When? In what capacity? And yes, if Norton was hired by the England team as chief comedian or stripper then he then becomes "we". I'm not from W Belfast but because I work there I represent a W Belfast school. "We" are a W Belfast school. Norton is part of the BBC team and an institution who unashamedly and rightly back the UK entry
He constantly referred to the English football team as "we" while on C4.
As for the rest - see red hand santa's post.

Hardy, I don't know who that woman is.

I've got a  grip, its daft to be annoyed about someone saying 'we'

Now you don't care and you actually like him?? make up your mind
Where did I say I did care or that I didn't like him?
I'm not "annoyed" about it either.
I simply made a comment about it.

I find it annoying when Toony Cascarino refers to Ireland as we.  For all we know he could have had Cromwellian ancestry.

Probably more chance you have a bit of cromwell in you yourself rrhf.

If Paddy O'Rourke was giving an interview I would expect him to use we to refer to Armagh and not Down. I don't see why Graham Norton or Terry Wogan should be any different.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Paddy O'Rourke is the manager of Armagh of course he'll say "we" when referring to the team.

She's a sports presenter on RTÉ TV - racing and rugby mostly. She's English - the daughter of Lester Piggott.

(Lester Piggott was a jockey)

What about if Daniel O'Donnell called Lester Piggott 'wee'?

Nah, Shane O'Neill wasn't too fond of the (British) monarchy either!  ;)

No, The Earl Of Tyrone clearly had no time for for privilege or titles - a true republican!

Fear ón Srath Bán

And as with the Gaelic custom, the successor to a chiefship was elected by his kinsmen... 'twas the English who tried to introduce primogeniture (birthright)! How right you are!

Not, that's because he is hired as an analyst. This is simple really. Norton was employed by the BBC as the sole voiceover for the BBC on a show which unashamedly backs the UK song. How difficult is it to understand that? It's exactly the same as a business employing a CEO who is expected to embrace that new company's ethos.

I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.
