KK were there for the taking there half way through, Galway were very poor. Seem to produce all that hype but never live up to it.

Yep and Cork will be the team to do it you'll tell us. Self delusion as they say is a wonderful thing

You know what maybe cork or Tipp would have beaten the cats yesterday!! Galway's inept display made them look a whole lot better than they were!  Larkin, Brennan, Comerford were all useless! Lucky for them they had the subs to come on! Galway are not as bad as they looked yesterday either! Personally I can't wait for Galway's next match no matter who it is they are playing!

I don't agree that Galway were holding anything back yesterday. It would have been massive for this team to beat Kilkenny yesterday, and Kilkenny would despise any blemish on their 5 in a row bid, having won the last four through the front door. I also wouldn't agree that Kilkenny were poor or there for the taking. Their shooting was definitely poor but that was about it and there's little doubt they could have scored a bit more if they'd had to. Their backs are better than ever and I'm not sure if there's an attack out there that can hurt them. Tennyson was excellent when he came on and with Dalton, Tyrell, Walsh, Delaney and the great Noel Hickey back as well, I don't know where their opponents can get a winning total from. PJ Ryan looked dodgy though. Their midfield dominated as well and we've seen their forward play better but the options they have on the bench would give any manager a boner.

As for Galway, it was hugely disappointing if not unexpected after the Offaly games. As one of the Galway posters rightly said - all the hype about this team is not coming from within County Galway .
The goalkeeper and backs played well yesterday. I thought Ollie, Kavanagh, Regan and especially David Collins were very good. From midfield on it was a disaster, aside from Damien Hayes who had a great game. Maybe Joe needs to be given back the free-taking duties. It could help him get into a game like yesterday's. He showed a few flashes of what he could do, mostly at the end when the game was lost, but the ball just didn't seem to come his way yesterday rather than him really playing badly. Cullinane, Callanan and Harte were quiet. In fairness they are all fairly inexperienced and up against some of the greatest hurlers of all time. It's tough on Cullinane who was playing brilliant hurling before his injury. Andy Smith worked hard and got onto loads of ball but used it terribly. Farragher's use of possession  was surprisingly dreadful too, but we know he's a great hurler who's done it in big games before. Tannian was fairly quiet though he looked capable of causing problems when he got on the ball. For what it's worth this would be my team for the quarter – final.

Mightn't be the worst result for Galway in the long run. they were never going to beat Kilkenny twice this summer. It ain't Kilkenny's All Ireland yet, Tipp could come up on the stand side as well.

I don't agree that the Galway backs played well yesterday.  They are good at getting the ball and play hard but when they do get the ball they just whack it up the field blind and Kilkenny seemed to have dropped a couple of players back into the 1/2 back line who were standing waiting for it and it comes straight back in again low and hard.  The Kilkenny fullback line in the same situation would have worked the ball short until they found someone with space and then they would have looked up and passed the ball in to whoever was out in front.  Galway will never beat Kilkenny unless they change there approach.  They also seem to think that hitting any sort of ball in the general direction of Canning is the best tactic.  Canning doesn't look fit at all for a start even though he is still classy when he gets on the ball but he is not Aisake O Hailpin so the high ball on top of him doesn't work, in fact they look a better team when the Portumna players aren't on the team, possibly because they think Canning is so good that they try to hit everything in his direction.
