QuoteA real injustice would be getting thrown out of the national league whilst top of your group with just 1 game to go when you have never one a national title before and look on course to do so. You's really would have something to moan about if that happened to you's.

whats this about ?

Weren't they crying last year they wanted a stand alone fixture and when they got it they were crying it was a week later than they expected.  They kick up if they've to travel anywhere for a championship game, now they crying because they've to play in Croke park? (that's right isn't it? because I got sick of the tyrone v dublin thread)
I'm sick of their moaning and yapping, if they werent such a pack of pricks it would be funny.

I don't agree with any foolish talk of a boycott but the above is completely untrue.

Dublin v Tyrone AIQF was originally fixed for Sat 9th Aug as a stand alone fixture. (This would have meant tyrone playing 3 matches in 3 weeks)
Galway complained as their quarter fonal would not then be played in Croke Park.
The GAC then offered the Dublin County Board the choice between a double header on the 9th or a standalone on the 16th.
After consulting with the players and mangement Dublin indicated to the GAC that they would like to play a double header on the 9th.
The GAC then despite having offered Dublin a choice fixed the match as a standalone fiixture on the 16th. Presumably this was done for financial reasons.

Now I think it would be foolish to say Dublin would have beaten Tyrone on the 9th considering how the game eventually panned out but in this case they were not treated very fairly by the GAC.

Match dates come the quarter finals are reguarly changed about without a word about it. This craic about poor Dublin has to stop. Wasnt Armagh v Laois for example in 05 moved back a week to so Tyrone Dublin could be played on its own? Also its a sorry state of affairs when Dublin have to rely on the other team being tired after playing 3 weeks in a row to win a game. The Dublin fans read far to much into venues/dates instead of concentrating on the game.

Why were Dublin offered the choice then? The GAA shouldnt have gave them the option if they werent going to pay any heed to their response.

I wonder will this boy be protesting?

QuoteSparks to fly at Dubs' NFL opener

Wednesday January 07 2009

Croke Park are preparing to spend close to €500,000 on a fireworks display before the start of upcoming Dublin v Tyrone NFL clash at Croke Park, the Evening Herald has learned.

The encounter between these strong rivals, which will be played under Croker's floodlights (7.30pm) will officially mark the GAA's 125th anniversary celebrations with live music and a fireworks display.

However, the cost of the pyrotechnics is likely to raise the heckles of cash-strapped clubs and county boards around the country.

Dublin also faced Tyrone in the opening game of the 2007 NFL at Croke Park -- the official unveiling of the new floodlights when a crowd of 81,678 were present. However, only a small fraction of that crowd were in attendance when warm up act, The Saw Doctors, took centre stage.

Tickets for the game are available on www.gaa.ie and www.ticketmaster.ie

I might head in for the fireworks but I will be leaving after them and I will be asking the lad at the gate to mark me out of the official attendance figures for the match  ;)

I was responding to a factually incorrect post by pintofguinness
I also stated in my post that Tyrone would have beaten Dublin anyway no matter what date it was on.

Precisely.

If its true that the gaa are spending 500,000 euro on fireworks for entertainment at this game it kind of destroys the Dubs claim that they are being used for money. Between this, the cost of marketing the game and the fact that tickets are only 20euro (with student/oap getting in cheaper and children for 5 euro) its not going to raise a massive profit. Its more about celebration and promotion of our games than making money.

Yeah, Im sure Kerry v Tyrone and Dublin v Tyrone would raise the same profits ;)

Tyrone Dreamer

No they couldnt. It wouldnt be viable due to the population of the 2 counties and travelling distances involved. But the fact that the game wont make much of a profit proves that this isnt what the gaa were interested in.

Tankie

Without 82k in attendance it would cost them alot more to put on these fireworks.

I presume to ensure a full house, the GAA have offered every club in the country 2 complimentary tickets for this event.

Another example of the Dubs being a crying shower of useless *&*&^*s, must be missing Match of the Day that night

Oh my, how capable the Armagh fans are - captains of industry one and all.

ziggysego

Seriously, the GAA want to kick off the celebrations of the 125th year in grand style. People of Tyrone feel honoured to be apart of this big night. I can't understand the begrudgery of some of the Dublin fans. The night is not about money, but a celebration of the greatest sporting organisation on God's green Earth. Put the pint down, turn MoTD off and be apart of it. You're turning Dublin into a joke.

If some of  the Dubs got everything they wanted, they still wouldnt be happy.  If it was against a weaker side you can be sure there would be no boycott. The reality is that they got a severe hammering last year and some are still smarting from it. There wont be as much talk of all ireland finals this year from the cheeky dubs.
