The lads are taking about this on the Kildare forum, John Doyle has played in 51 consecutive championship matches, is this a record, where would one find this information?
Plus he hasn't failed to score since the All-Ireland semi in 2000 - Legend!!!
I'm a bit confused but since John Doyle made his debut in 2000 I think Kildare have only had three replays. If so then they have only played 47 championship matches:
2000 - 5 (4 + replay with Offaly)
2001 - 4
2002 - 5 (4 + replay with Offaly)
2003 - 3
2004 - 2
2005 - 4
2006 - 2
2007 - 3
2008 - 5
2009 - 6
2010 - 8 (7 + replay with Antrim)
total - 47
So if he's played 51 games then he is even better than we thought!!! However even 47 consecutive games is still a superb achievement. I would imagine there must be a few Kerry lads with comparable records
Just to clear this up, the games that Kildare have played since Johnny made his debut were:
2000: 6 (Louth, Offaly, Offaly (r), Dublin, Dublin (r), Galway)
2001: 4 (Carlow, Meath, Donegal, Sligo)
2002: 5 (Louth, Offaly, Offaly (r), Dublin, Kerry)
2003: 4 (Longford, Meath, Laois, Roscommon)
2004: 2 (Wexford,Offaly)
2005: 4 (Wicklow, Westmeath, Laois, Sligo)
2006: 3 (Offaly,Cavan, Derry)
2007: 3 (Meath, Roscommon, Louth)
2008: 5 (Wicklow, Cavan, Limerick, Fermanagh, Cork)
2009: 6 (Offaly, Wexford, Laois, Dublin, Wicklow, Tyrone)
2010: 8 (Louth, Antrim, Antrim (r), Leitrim, Derry, Monaghan, Meath, Down)
2011: 2 (Wicklow, Meath)
That's 52 games. Johnny has started all of those games and the only games he didn't score in were his debut and the All-Ireland semi final of 2000 so he has scored in 46 consecutive games, or in other words, every championship game since the start of the 2001 season
