GAA Discussion / Re: Where now for Galway?????
July 24, 2007, 01:26:55 PM
Will people please please please stop mentioning Pete Warren's name in the same sentence as Galway County senior manager, he was Forde's right hand man for god's sake, cut any links with this administration and get someone who know's how to put out a team with a plan 'A' not mind a plan 'B'. Be careful what ye wish for, ye just might get it.
For the westies, N. Galway will always have more players on any Galway football team, its the home of the sport in Galway, bar Carraroe in the mid 90's I cant remember any other western club winning a senior championship, De Paor is a decent footballer and a sound skin and is as good as Cullinane but lord help us over the next few years if we need to rely on these type of pllayers

DE, a direct quote from yourself "Now I'm certainly no Corofin supporter, I'd nearly go as far as saying I hate the sight of them and wasn't a bit bothered to see them lose", look it up kido, its there, hope you were crossing your fingers behind your back when you wished the lads good luck, enough of this now, apology accepted.

Only hope for a victory on SaturdayDE, a direct quote from yourself "Now I'm certainly no Corofin supporter, I'd nearly go as far as saying I hate the sight of them and wasn't a bit bothered to see them lose", look it up kido, its there, hope you were crossing your fingers behind your back when you wished the lads good luck, enough of this now, apology accepted.

Don't think Cullinane is the answer for Saturday, reminds me a lot of O'Domhnaill, not a bad man under a high ball but when he lands with ball in hand that's where the trouble starts, Big Sean was lucky in that he had a well motivated, quick and strong forward line that would fight for every 50/50 ball and win most of them, our forwards at present seem to rely on luck breaks and don't seem to have the stomach for a battle from the type of balls Cullinane delivers. Once of Forde's drawbacks is his complete lack of ability to change tactics once things start to go against this Galway team, most notable against Cork 2 years ago and last Sunday week, the Westmeath game was just a disaster from the first minute. In Sligo in the 2nd half Forde's answer to the long ball game not functioning was an instruction to kick it longer, the yes men that make up the back room team are even worse. For the next day we need to play to our strengths for what they are. The forwards can score but the ball needs to be quick accurate and low, Coleman can deliver this, Bergin to a lesser extent, Blake and Comer can as well, Decie cant but he delivers in other places. Flee to Forde, let the half backs suppost the forwards, leave the forwards in their best positions for more than 10 minutes and let them play football, we might get beat but feck it they might bring abit of pride back t galway football

DE, think a previous post from you went along the lines of "I'm no Corofin supporter, in fact I hate them and was glad to see them beaten" (against St. Bridgets of Ross), strange thing from a Galway footballer supporter to come out with but thats the gentle race of people in Killerarin for ya. And yes we had a shocking day at the office, only 2nd time the scan's ever beat us in Championship, could be worse, could have been beaten by the Joyce's.
But enough of inter club muckery, on to Saturday, cant say I hold any great hopes, we've been waiting for this team to perform for 5 years and somehow I dont think Forde has it to drag it out of them, one good thing that would come out of it is that it will be the last time we see him in a Maroon and white tracksuit, unless he takes over Annaghdown, which is about where his talent should take him

Killerarin hockeyed them, 16-7, turned into the Nicky Joyce show in the second half, wouldnt rate them as a serious contendors tho, its down to Salthill or Caltra with the champs out, very poor display by Corofin, ruderless and leaderless but good old Kinneavy gave Milltown absolutely everything but good luck to them, deserved winners.  the scan's arent the worst skin's, not as bitter when it comes to their hatred of Corofin as the Barnadearg byes. Jealousy is a cruel mistress.
Serious display by Mullaghy, if Forde was there (which I doubt) it would give him alot to mull on while choosing his backs. Can see Fitzy coming under serious pressure to hold his spot, Comer back in the corner and Coyne or Mullaghy on the wing, midfield the same and he could pick the six forwards out of a hat and have as much of a shot of getting it right, just make sure Nicky Joyce starts on the wing and Armstrong in the corner, after that I'd start PJ, Savo, Mike Meehan and Ja, doesnt matter where they start Forde will switch everyone of them after 5 mins,

GAA Discussion / Re: Goal of the Year

A GAA answer to a GAA problem, its clear cut, it wouldnt matter if there were 15 Corofin players hanging onto Mannion, if he takes over 4 steps with the ball its either a free in for dragging or a free out for overcarrying, can you imagine an advantage occuring in rugby and been allowed to go on after a player knocks on the ball. Ludicrious.
Just add it to the dodgy rules book,
another, why is it that if a player is on the ground trying to get up and there is one defender standing over hasseling him it will always end up as a free to the player on the ground, however in the same situation if there are 4 or 5 defenders hasseling the grounded player, the free will go against the player on the ground for overcarrying. Suppose tackling in general is hazy city, as is the Square ball rule, foot block etc etc.
Anyway back to goal of the season, Mannion fouled the ball, should be taken of the list

Prestige, Are you Karol Mannion in disguise??

if ya are please answer me a question,
how in the name of all that is holy did you get away with taking 13 steps without the normally mandatory hop or solo, its not as if Jonno's favourite ref was down the other side of the field. Fair play though decent strike.

GAA Discussion / Re: Frankie Dolan!!!
November 29, 2006, 05:15:16 PM
I'll admit I'm a Corofin man and was very close to the action the last day, biased though I am these are facts:

1.   Bridgets full forward O'Connor, who was already on a yellow poleaxed Gary Sice off the ball, dirty dig in the back of the neck from behind, Sice went down, was seen by the 2 umpires who tried to attract the refs attention, (ref subsequently ignored their advice to issue a 2nd yellow card)
2.   Frankie also seen the slap, realized that O'Connor was heading for the line and went to pull Gary Sice up of the ground, basically trying to infer that Sice was acting,
3.   Gary's father(who was acting water carrier and therefore entitled to be on the field) arrived on the seen and told Frankie in no uncertain terms where to go and was then struck in the jaw. How Sice fell is about as relevent to this argument as whether or not a Roscommon club can ever win an All Ireland (They cant by the way, connaughts 4 in a row chance ends here)
4.   Jimmy Sice had no bib on, neither had our manager or any of his selectors, its not enforced in Galway although I do realize that it should be, whether or not Jimmy had a bib is a mute point though, Dolan knew he was with us, he wore a Corofin jacket and carried water bottles and was roaming the edge of the park from the off.
5.   Sice is embarrassed about the whole thing and wish it would blow over, that does not excuse the fact that Dolan struck an official from the opposing camp and should be punished, the boy has form and should be made pay, 6 mth ban minimum.
6.   Fair play to Bridgets, better team won on the day but that doesn't take away from the fact that O'Connor got away with a dirty slap from behind on Gary Sice, seen by the umpires and within a minute good old Frankie decked his awld lad and deserved a straight red.
7.   Heard the ref was on the Mayo selection committee for O'Mahony, one Corofin man sent of after 3 mins and 2 Bridgets players left on when they clearly deserved the line. Coincidence, me thinks not, anti Corofin\Galway bias goes on in Connaught club.

Sometimes you have to wonder were the Rossies brought up on the same planet as the rest of us, as the rest of the world advances they seem to drift further and further back
