Hurling Discussion / Re: Waterford V Limerick
August 10, 2007, 01:22:35 PM
Limerick half back line looks slow.Think we will do alot of damage there with Shanahan/Molumphy/Kelly.Our half back line is probably srongest in the country. If limerick can get high ball into Begley we will probably leak a few goals , however expect us to pull through at the very end by the narrowest. No way are Kilkenny going to get a soft All Ireland this year.Who ever will get through semi will give Kilkenny a rude awakening!

Lads this Cork team are finished.Probably take about 4/5 years for new team to come through.Waterford in fact have a lower average age than Cork/Kilkenny which was even lowered this year with introduction of Molumphy(22) and Kearney (23).How can anyone judge Kilkenny this year. The one time it was put up to them the failed against Waterford and havent faced any real serious team since.Waterford are the form team and will be getting even better with every match they get.

Waterford hadnt played in three weeks and last weeks game will bring them on a tonne. The reason Cork were going mad after the match is that they knew Waterford were after havin a bad day and that Cork had played to there best. The momentum is now with Waterford and i think if they defeat Cork this Sunday,  Cork  wont win anything for along time and will go through a barron spell which usually follows success.

Both teams will have there usual purple patch, however i expect the Deise to be on top by 4/5 points with couple of minutes to go and Cork throwing everything they got at them, but the Deise to prevail.

Did anyone see O Sullivan(Pebbles) sticking his fingers up to the waterford crowd at the end of the match.Just shows what type of a character he is !

Eoin McGrath went for the right option at that time.Game is over now and i expect Waterford to edge it by couple of points the next day.

Agree with last post.Expect Murphy to be back to his best after an out of sorts season and keep joe deane quiet.

I wouldnt rule out Wexford. They always have one big match in them.Tipp will be cocky enough now and will probably change the team again for the match

The current problem with the Leinster Championship is that no matter who plays Kilkenny they are in for a hiding, granted I still think by putting Galway in the Leinster championship you will still see Kilkenny winning 99% of the Leinster Championships over the next 5 years. Galway in my opinion have this shroud hanging over them where  people think they are better than they are all because they won underage championships (Limerick as an example where underage titles don't equal senior titles) I think by putting Galway into Leinster it could go either of two ways - Galway deliver on their talent and become a serious force in hurling or they suffer defeat after defeat at the hands of Kilkenny and go the way of Wexford, where guys just expect to lose to Kilkenny when they go a few points down in a game and then the flood gates open.

I fear that by putting Galway and Antrim into Leinster you get a scenario where it is either Wexford or Galway (Dublin also in a few years) stepping up to a Leinster final date with Kilkenny and a probable mauling with Antrim Offaly and Laois just playing out a mini championship at the bottom. Standards won't improve, if the GAA are serious they need to have one open draw where teams are seeded - The Leinster teams would benefit more from playing Tipp, Clare and Limerick than they would from playing each other and Kilkenny every year. If they could close the gap with the second tier Munster teams first, then they could aim for Kilkenny, Cork and Waterford

Agree with you 100%.But there is no point lookiing at the problem year after year.Something will have to be done about it and i think an open draw for the ALL Ireland based on championship with seperate Munster and Leinster Championships.

Tipp dont deserve respect. They are a very average team and will not be in the running come September.

Great bet Waterford @ 5s to bate Kilkenny

Not dissing Tipp at all. Tipp were beaten by an average Limerick side that got beat by Waterford in Munster Final by 9 points.Waterford have beat Tipp already this year in league, and have beat Cork in Championship. At best ye are about fourth best in Munster with Clare just behind ye.You cant honestly think that ye are going to win anything this year.Ye celebrated big after Cork match because ye knew it was going to be yer only win this year.

Thats the shot! Pity your hurlers didnt show the same.

"Galway will not hammer Kilkenny and to say Galway have better forwards is a joke, Henry on his own must average near 1-10 a game and Comerford will get another 4 or 5 throw in Brennan there and you are looking at some serious forward power!! I'm sick of this whole Galway potential thing!! I've been hearing it since I was in nappies and still not seen them deliver on it, except for the very very odd match over the last 15 years. I have the potential to be an ice skater (even though I have only skated once in my life and spent the majority of the time on my ass) What I am saying is we can all say that our county team has potential but at some point you have to say "screw this old and boring potential myth we have serious problems in the county"

It remains to be seen. Oddly enough I wouldn't be totally afraid of Sheflin scoring, I've seen him miss a few over the years and there have been games when he hasn't even scored from play - a lot of his tallies have come from the placed ball. It's his playmaking duties I fear. Comerford can be held but Brennan only ever seems to play well against Galway.   :-\ Counter that with very skillful hurlers like the 2 Healys, Broderick, Hayes, A Kerins, Kerril Wade, even Tannian - all these guys can score easily enough if they put their mind to it. (And that's discounting Farragher and E Cloonan who will hardly be playing)

Galway may well have 'serious problems' in the county, but only at senior level. Minor, U-21 and club seem to be healthy enough from where I stand.

Above hurlers maybe skillfull on the training pitch but thats about it.When have they scored easily.Talent in Galway is way overestimated. Not serious contenders this year on any time soon by the looks of things!
