Be careful not to talk shite.

Derry have probably the best record in the competition. 10 titles beween 5 clubs.

Ballinderry, Loup, Bellaghy, Lavey, Dungiven

Armagh clubs have 10 titles beween them also.

Clans, Bawn and Cross.

Your point about the last team to beat Cross in Armagh going on to win the Ulster Club is a good one though. Club football in the county is reasonably strong. But I don't know if there are any clubs there at the minute that would make a decent fist of the Ulster Club if Cross did get beat. If for no other reason that they'd be partied out by the time it started.

I'd have no bother changing the radio in an older model, but in these new fangled types the radio is seamlessly integrated etc. with Sat Nav etc possibly also.

I have a bluetooth radio to put in, otherwise I wouldn't want to tamper with it,

Any thoughts

General discussion / Changing a car radio in a Honda

Quick question -
Thinking of buying a two or three year old Honda and was wondering does anyone know how easy it is to change the car radio, or if you could take it to a Honda dealer and have them upgrade to a new radio.

How the hell would the IFA be included in the FOI act?

Each ground would however be required to keep details of gate receipts for accounting purposes. Don't see how you would ever get this information though unless it was volunteered.

Why don't you go to Irish League matches and do a head count.

That would keep you out of mischief for a while  :P

They should close down the Non GAA Board altogether and move everything to one fecking board. The whole feckin thing has gone to pot!!!

Mark my words - a highly new look Tyrone tem will win the National league next year.  This will be Hartes own handpicked team and not the one passed on from Art and Eugene.

Don't be such a tube - that is without doubt the most stupid comment I've ever read on the board.

This team was not inherited from Art & Eugene. Harte has been in the job for 5 years. One of the longest in the business. He took most of these players through from his underage mgt days, so they are most certainly his own players.

Tyrone's demise is for three main reasons.

1. They got rid of Paddy Tally. Their win in 2005 was while they were still using his techniques. They haven't been a force since.
2. They have suffered terribly from injuries.
3. The remaining players haven't got the hunger.

Your stupid comment is made all the more stupid with your use of the term "Mark my words" as if you are some kind of an expert, when in fact, you are clearly talking rubbish.

Good luck to Armagh on Sunday!!

None of the prospective candidates fill me with confidence either. I don't know where the notion of McGeeney's involvement has come from, but it reminds me of Anthony Daly's management of Clare. Not necessarily a good idea and probably no grounds for it either

GAA Discussion / Re: Joe Kernan Resigns
July 19, 2007, 05:31:36 PM
I'd like to thank Joe for helping deliver an All-Ireland for Armagh. It was one of the best times of my life and likewise for many others. It's 20 years also since Joe played his last game for Armagh against Derry in Clones. As a GAA man he has given a hell of a lot to football in Armagh and I like to wish him well and hope that his sons can emulate his achievements in the near future, hopefully winning an All-Ireland medal as players.

It's difficult to know whether 2002 would have been achieved without Kernan at the helm. He set the standard high for himself and the team and their achievements were unprecedented. He didn't just manage and motivate the team. He seen to it that the county raised the funds to support a competitive county team in Armagh.

The same people that ridicule him now would probably have been there in 2001 sniping about McAlinden and Canavan who also delivered success under a heavy burden of expectation.

The bottom line is that all three men combined to carry Armagh football to an unprecedented level and for me their success will always overshadaow their failings and none of these men do not deserve the criticism that has been levelled at them.

Armagh could possibly have won more since 2002, but it wasn't for the want of trying and no matter what so many armchair experts will say, I do not believe that another manager could have got any more out of this team.

For Joe, his failings have been blamed on specific mistakes, but when you consider that his successor must not only avoid the same mistakes, but do every other aspect of the job as well as Joe, we'll have bother finding a manager as good. Nonetheless, whether he sees it or not, it certainly is the right time to go for himself and the team.

Peter Rafferty that is.

Would be a good option. But I'm of the opinion that Joe might not go.

I'm sure his profile as Armagh manager helps his business and I'd say that he wants to see through the development of his sons on the county team, including Paul Kernan and continue the rebuilding process, which he has managed reasonably well to date.

BTW, I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned Donal Murtagh.

I don't think he would have anywhere near the same ability as Joe to handle the media, as evidenced by his comments after the All-Ireland Club final, but given the fact that he dropped SK, you can be damn sure he's his own man.

Orangeman,
They concentrate on defence because Joe knows that they aren't scoring more than 9 times in a game.

It's been like this throughout the league. In the league they played 7 games and scored 5-62.

That's less than an average of 10 scores per game. They stayed up because they only conceded two goals. Incidentally one of them was a clanger from McKinney just like Hearty's against Donegal.

from - http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/gaa_results_footballleague.html

10 scores against Kildare
10 scores against Louth
8 against Galway
9 scores against Derry
10 scores against Down
8 scores against Laois
12 scores against Westmeath

Incidentally, in the two drawn games and the Ulster Final last year all they could muster was about 10 scores.

Eamonn Coleman once said that to win most Championship games you need to score about 12 times. I think he was dead right.

The problem isn't going forward Goats. Its what to do when we get there.

The full forward line was winning ball mainly from 30 yard passes into the corners. Stevie and co. were not able to take on and beat their Derry opponents yesterday and in truth Armagh's full forward line were unable to do just that in the National League against weaker defences. In fairness this has not been a huge part of the gameplan since Joe took over.

What's more, the full forwards were not inclined to turn and shoot over their shoulders on receiving the ball. Something I know Stevie can do well, but for some reason they hadn't the confidence to try. Often when the lads should have been shooting for points they passed the ball across the forty with noone taking responsibility unless there was much more time and space available.

Confidence has been low in this quarter for a while now. A new gameplan, the return on Brian Mallon and Ronan Clarke and the introduction of a few talented U21s should change that.

My feeling is that you are a little deluded Naka.

Take McGrane, McConville and McNulty out and you loose your most experienced players.

Take out McGeeney and you loose the beating heart of the team.

These men are currently irreplaceable given the panel available. A couple of years in the wilderness would probably be right.

QuoteSo on your witch hunt it doesn't matter, just that he was on his knees?

Anyhow, a lot of rubbish being written here. Armagh prob need a fresh approach, but no doubt they will be back again next year.

It's not a witch hunt Mid-Louth. If you read my post, you'll see that I'm not "out to get" McGeeney. He has been a fantastic servant to Armagh football. The best ever. I also qualified my post by saying that sometimes things look worse from the line than they actually are.

Also, I didn't think he should have come back this year until I seen how he played in the International Rules last year and when he came on against Derry in the league he showed that he still "had it".

But, I do feel that it was a stark sign for himself and the team. Kieran is 36 or so. He and the rest of this Armagh team have been in the later stages of the championship since 1999. That is crazy committment. I play for an intermediate club and find myself, that I struggle to get through one season and that sometimes the end of the season can't come quickly enough no matter how well we are doing.

I marvel at the character of McGrane and McGeeney. It seems that it never became a chore to them. As BC said, it looks like it eventually caught up with Kieran yesterday. Its a pity, but I think every player that plays as long as he does, eventually has a moment like that. Unfortunately, it was very uncharacteristic of the Geezer everyone admires.
