This crap of eliminating teams from championships on score difference is total rubbish and should never have been introduced. I'm not just saying it cos we suffered due to it this year (only delayed the inevitable for us). It's a wrong way for a team to go out of a championship especially when a side could rack up a good score against a team who are already out.

One bad loss at start of year and it can be a complete disaster.  By all means use score difference where two teams are progressing or not progressing anyway to decide 1st/2nd etc but not to eliminate teams.

They're very flashy looking alright and obviously printed a while as they don't name the teams.  Is it true they were printed outside the country?

It wasn't played at the Special Olympics.  In the run up the rugby it was commonly reported that it HAD been played, but eventually someone actually took the trouble to check with special olympics and no, it hadn't been played at all.

Does this imply that a suspension at club level does not apply at county level?

Depends, category I, II or III offences apply only to level at which it occurred, eg club or county, but category IV applies across the board.  Category II already posted above, here's III and IV...

Category III
Striking with hurley, either with force or causing injury; Attempting to strike with hurley, with force; Kicking, either with force or causing injury; Attempting to Kick, with force; Stamping; Striking or attempting to strike with the head; Inflicting injury recklessly by means other than those stated above; Any type of assault on an Opposing Team Official.
Penalty:
(i) Minimum: 8 weeks Suspension in the same Code and at the same Level, inclusive of the next Game in the same Competition of that Competition Year, even if that Game falls outside the  suspension time period.

(ii) Minimum on Repeat Infraction: 16 weeks Suspension in the same Code and at the same Level as that at which the Infractions were committed, inclusive of the next Game in the same Competition of that Competition Year, even if that Game falls outside the Suspension
time period.

Category IV
Minor physical interference with (e.g. laying a hand on, pushing, pulling or jostling), threatening or abusive conduct towards, or threatening language to, a Referee, Umpire, Linesman or Sideline Official.
Penalty:
(i) Minimum: 12 weeks Suspension in all Codes and at all Levels.
(ii) Minimum on Repeat Infraction: 24 weeks Suspension in all Codes and at all Levels.



The fact that your player got a two week suspension (underage suspensions are half those listed above) suggests that he was suspended for Cat II which only applies to the code in which it occurred.  If ref reported him for abusive conduct as well, then it could have been a Cat IV, which would apply to both, but then he would have got six weeks.

Not necessarily true - if you're coming from a small club.

You'd have to wonder sometimes what does the club actually mean to some people.  Allowing transfers from small rural clubs to bigger urban ones would sound the death knell for a lot of clubs, many of whom are already struggling. 

I was there and can confirm , all the anthems were played when each team was introduced.

Stephenite, you might want to re-check that memory of yours, seeing as Special Olympics confirmed today that the anthem was not in fact played.

Can anyone confirm for definite that God Save The Queen was indeed played for the Special Olympics?  I thought the Special Olympics don't play national anthems other than that of the host country?

I'm just curious as I'm losing track of the number of people I've heard saying "But it was played in 2003" (including Eddie O'Sullivan)
