GAA Discussion / Re: Joe Brolly

Listening to Joe on BBC Re-run of the 1994 Down v Derry game last night was a perfect example of what George Orwell  called Doublespeak.
Or what we in Down call a bitter bollox talking out of both sides of his mouth.
He says that he loved Eamon Coleman (and,of course, Eamon loved him) but blames Eamon for picking the wrong team and that's why Derry lost. Joe reckons Eamon wanted to give a game to boys that missed out on starting the previous year's final. Dermot McNicholl. Really?
He also blames Eamon for leaving his son Gary on Mickey Linden for too long. Mickey was player of the year in 94 and nobody could mark him.
Finally he chastised Karl Diamond for shooting rather than giving the ball back to him. The same Joe who,as a corner forward, literally never had a shot while Paul Higgins marked him.
Here is a revelation for a bitter and twisted pundit; the reason that Down beat Derry in 1994 is that on the day they were the better team and scored more than their opponents

Johnnycool, think it was Ross that gave Magic a couple of games, he wasn't the worst but you could see he was a hurler trying to think as a footballer.
Any more word of where EB are playing their games and what sort of a squad are they pulling together?

Boris being admitted to hospital is not that surprising if you read today's papers but will knock the stuffing out of the UK Government.  He must regret his hypocrisy and belief that people should do as he says not as he does, a bit like Brolly.  He must be at risk of pneumonia which is not good.  Raab to take temporary charge? God help us all.  Leo stepping forward is a selfless gesture,  people will cynical but fair play.

Can anyone actually confirm that Joe Brolly was at Cheltenham? If he was, it wouldn't make anything he's saying about the state of things wrong but it would make him an absolute hypocrite.

The herd immunity theory is complex and partly based on conjecture. I think it would be useful if all of us on here could persuade people to avoid excessive drinking in public on St Patrick's day. While it may be a challenge, particularly for younger people,  the evidence for the risk of spreading the virus through close contact is clear and proven. All of us will know friends, relatives and club-mates who are planning to go on the lash on Tuesday. The most constructive thing we could do at this point is to minimise the risk and avoid crowds where close contact takes place.

First consideration is the result between them. So if we win both our games only Longford could be level with us and as we beat them, we go up. Only if results lead to us and Tipperary level will scoring difference kick in

Good win alright, and without Darren O'Hagan and Donal O'Hare.  Barry O'Hagan seems to have stepped up to the mark along with the Guinness bros, Kerr and Quinn. Good to see Harrison rattled the crossbar and Burns kept a clean sheet.  Two wins in last two games guarantees us promotion and first tier championship football so Tally to keep the focus.

I'm a Down man who has a lot of time for both Tyrone and Dublin; however the way both sides targeted Clifford this year was sickening.  While both teams have been innovative and exciting, they have also led the way in cynicism and gamesmanship; last night Dublin shaded it but Mickey has a strong claim to leading the decline into where we are.
