Its good to see Brolly on board, no matter if you like him or not he writes a good article.  Always good craic and holds nothing back, although big Brian Mc Gilligan is always featured in his articles.  Havent seen the Derry Journal in a while, was wondering if he was still putting in his 'Brollys Bites' column.  Was some laugh.  Would like to see Martin Mc Hugh on board too, writes a good article every week for the Irish Star.

Looking forward to seeing what it was like, the Game was a decent enough paper, but I think there would be an interest in this new one if its a good publication.  Mag's like hoganstand are ok, but its good to read about the game locally, here in Ulster.  At the minute I just look forward to Tuesdays Irish Star pull out, which is as good as it gets for local GAA.

Poor Kieran, I remember he had the leg broke a few summers ago when the marquee was up.  Good that he's stable, lucky to be alive, injuries sound horrific..  I only got a message frm him on bebo last week about his xmas plans, crazy to think what has happened. The tributes are pouring into SPOH's account.  Very very sad!

Very surreal indeed.  I remember Sean Paul from his stint in Coleraine, he was leaving when I was starting.  When I heard others were in the car, I had a bad feekling it would be McKinley or O'Loan as they all mucked about together along with Niall Higgins.  Any word on McKinleys situation.  Who else was invloved?

GAA Discussion / Re: Youngest GAA Club?

A hurling team called Camowen Gaels formed in Omagh/Killyclogher in 2004 for seniors, and also there has been a few underage clubs to spring up I think in 2005, namely Fintona and St Johns( Dromore?).  Good development, alot of work going into the schools around these areas and hopefully this can lead them to fielding senior sides in 8/9 years time.  As young clubs go, Errigal Ciaran from Tyrone have had considerable success.  They were formed in 1990 and have won 6 tyrone senior championships and 2 senior ulster club championships plus several senior league titles and countless reserve and underage championships and leagues.

3 wishes:

1) Simply for Tyrone to be rid of injuries, which would enable the best 15 to be on the pitch thus giving us another All Ireland
2) Waterford to win the Liam Mc Carthy
3) A Tyrone/Armagh All Ireland Final - Nothing beats winning Sam by beating Armagh for it

Have no argument with Henry getting the award, his constant high scoring from play and frees this year was amazing.  To perform as well as he did in nearly every game is amazing.  O'Rourke's achievement was great, the outdoor silver was great as was the indoor.  But winning indoors in athletics seems to count for little in the grand scale.  Personally, I think Paul Brady should have got it, look at his achievements around the globe in his sport.  He is the best, O'Rourke isnt and although Henry is I think due to the wider scale of competition and onus on individualism that Brady should have got it

Armagh / Ronan Clarke Out for the Season
December 15, 2006, 04:23:03 PM
Ive read conflicting reports that he could be back by championship or he might not be back until this time next year.  Whatever happens he wont be near 100% in 2007, and this will be a big blow to Armagh.  They rely heavily on the Clarke/McDonnell combination from play, and without him they will struggle for scores.

Armagh's 2007 hopes have been dealt another blow with the news that full forward Ronan Clarke is facing several months on the sidelines.

Clarke, who was the Orchard County's only All-Star recipient this year, recently underwent keyhole surgery on a knee problem, but surgeons discovered that the damage to the knee was more serious than had initially been thought, leaving him facing the prospect of sitting out the entire National League and perhaps part of the championship as well.

It is a big setback to Clarke, who was troubled by a back injury earlier this year before bouncing back to play a leading role in Armagh's capture of the Ulster championship for a third consecutive year.

Armagh are also set to be without the services of full back Francie Bellew for the National League because of a shoulder injury.

Tyrone played the majority of matches last yr without canavan.  In the drawn ulster final and replay.  He was wrongly sent off within a minute of coming on in that game.  In the dub games also, he wasnt on and look how well tyrone played, and in the subsequent semi he came on and hit the free.  I dont think tyrone need to prove they can play without him, cos they have already shown they can.  As u say dubnut, opinion is going to lead to arguments.  My opinion is that tyrone are the best when they are at full strength, simple as that.  Kerry would be second.  But on the facts, no matter what the circumstances were last year, kerry are no1 now, with mayo 2nd and so on.

Dubnut, as it was stated these are opinion, not based on last years champions but on the best team.  So I was simply stating that Tyrone are the better side, they are in at 2 in the rankings, and that is nothing to do with last years, otherwise on facts they would be around 10/11.  But why put them at 2 and not 1, as on their day they are probably the best.  We've heard it b4 about injuries, and it is a fact.  Tyrone cant be judged on games such as derry/louth/laois when they were missing up to 7/8 starting players from their best side.  They had a poor start the league, but turned it around and had some good wins, notably over a full strength kerry.  As for the Canavan debate, he was/is a great player.  But lots of people are making an issue out of how tyrone will cope without him.  In 2005 he rarely played, he hit 1-1 in the final which was great but I think tyrone showed they can survive without him.  The Ulster finals of that year against armagh, canavan wasnt involved in PLAY, and against urselves.

On performance Tyrone would be down the list due to the obvious situation last year.  But on opinion surely Tyrone should be number 1, they have beat Kerry in their last 2 championship meetings in 03 and 05. and with a fully fit team next year Id be confident they will do it again.  The only other change I would make would be to swicth fermanagh and wexford, irrespective of the championship win they would be a better side, and I dont particularly like them even.  But Derrys ranking as higher than fermanagh is just!
