What is the best way to sort out your accomodation? Have you it all organized in advance or would you be better just driving to a city and trying to find somewhere when you get there.

Have always fancied driving up and down california. Wold love to do it.

It's 1-17 to 1-7 at the minute according to twitter. Fermanagh have clawed it back a bit as it was 1-11 to 0-1 at one point.

BBC are show deferred coverage at 7pm. GAA wanted to reduce the number of games that the BBC can show live.

Anyone having any problems with BT broadband at the min? Everything seems to be working at the hub and none of the computers are picking it up. Am hoping its a BT problem rather than something here.

For curiosity purposes

If you were to start to plan a reasonable size house how much would it approx cost to get plans done - approved (given no hitches copuld be forseen) - footings in and sub floor poured. No purchase of site required.

Radda,

I'm sure there are variations throughout the country but I'd say you need the following:
Architects fees of around £1.20 per square foot split into 2 payments (1 usually at planning submission and 1 at building control submission). Was around £1.40-£1.50 at height of the boom. If you know someone who can do it as a homer job rather than through an architects office you could get it cheaper.

Full planning permission fee of £651.

Building control fee of £75 if the house is lees than 250m2. If it's more than this then the fee is worked out on a rough cost estimate. Can be beteeen £200-£300.

In order to have the building control application accepted as valid you have to submitt a SAP calculation with the building control drawings (basically an energy assessment of how your green you house is. You have to achieve a certin level of energy efficiency). This can be an extra £100 if you architect can do it hime self or he might get an external consultant to do. Would still be about £100.

Depending on the design of you house, a structural engineer may be required to size any beams that are needed. Even if your intention is to just put in the founds and leave it for a couple of years, you have to submit the building control application in order to start on site and they will go ahead and access the plans. They will need any beam sizes to pass the plans. If you don't provide that then they can refuse the building control and you'll have to submitt an new building control application at a later date. Some councils are strict on this and some aren't.

Wouldn't have a clue about how much to put the founds in.

There could also be an inspection fee from building control to come out an inspect the founds. Around another £200. This is how it would be done in the north anyway.

Was looking at this TV from Tescos:

Technika 32-2011 32" HD Ready LCD with built in DVD Player for £299.

Anyone ever have any issues with a TV/DVD combo or have you ever heard of the manufacturer?

General discussion / Re: Computer Help
November 25, 2010, 01:25:51 PM
Bought a new USB (Sony Vaio) of ebay (from Hong Kong if that has any effect) to take files back and forward between work and home computer. If I copy files onto in from one of the computers and when I go to open them on the other computer it comes up "file not valid." It would only do it form some files and seems to be pretty random in the files that are affected. Have tried re-formatting the USB but the problem re-appears after a while.

Anyone got any solutions or know what is going on?

What are the chances of more tickets becoming available? I didn't think there would be the demand that there was. Will resort to eBay if I have to but would rather not pay too much over the odds. I've seen it before where more tickets become available all of a sudden but really they just held a number back for some reason.

General discussion / Re: Cycling

I had got up to cycling maybe 60 miles a week. Would try and get out 2 evenings after work and do 20 miles and get a longer one at the weekend of maybe 30-40 miles. I really enjoyed it. I find it alot easier to cycle 20 miles than to run 2-3. Don't get out at all during the week now with the short evenings. I still have to look into joining the club and get some comapny when out. I mate told me that it can make a world of difference than being out on your own.

I don't think McHugh's point is that the way the draws are now is stopping ulster teams winning all-irelands, it's that it is an uneven playing field. And until it is a even playing field, there will always be this arguement.

If you look at the draws this year, if Limerick win their munster semi and then loose the final, they go into the qualifier round before the all Ireland quarter finals. Armagh could beat Derry tomorrow, loose to Monaghan and then have to play 3 rounds of qualifiers to get to the same stage as Limerick.

There's probably the same problem with Leinster. The provines with more teams are at a disadvantages to the provinces with less teams.

I personally think the provincial championchip should be scrapped, but I think that it too radical for the powers that be that are responsible for these changes. If there was an even competition I think Kerry would win as much as they have now and probably McHugh would agree. I think that's his point.

My insurance is now up at the end of May. Am currently with Open & Direct and the renewal price came in dearer than last year. Has anyone else experienced this. Apparently car insurance has gone up this year generally.

However, went into a place close to work at lunch time and got quoted a price of £360 compared to the £414 of my renewal price so I was happy enough with that. However they first quoted £518 but were soon able to find something else when I told them the price I already had. Will change over this month. Am also going to forget about the direct debit this year and just pay all in one go. It was an extra £40-50 just to pay monthly!

My insurance is up end of May as well, got a good quote from Open & Direct but I'd be interested to know the name of this other firm you went to Jimmy - see if they can do anything for me?

It was Hughes Insurance. Called into their branch in Magherafelt during lunch one day.
