was not at the game today, but some were saying we were shite.

Clontibert on todays performance should beat us handy next week. Ogs should have put that chance away near the end.

Obviously the tough season has taken its toll and a fresh Monaghan team should win next week in Armagh.....

The bookies don't agree, St Galls now hot favourites

Latest Odds

6/4   St Galls
11/4 Loup
11/4 Clontibret
9/2  Kilcoo

I'd imagine Grimley will be onto his fellow Ogs clubmen now to get the full dossier on St Galls in preparation for the semi-final..

Clontibret v Dromore was a close fought typical Ulster Club c'ship game and fair dues to McManus for playing the way he did through the pain. It will be some battle with them and St Galls next week. I'd imagine St Galls will be favourites but I think the winner of this game will be Ulster Champions this year.

clontibret 0-09  dromore 0-07

colm mccullough sent off

4 min injury time

Job done for Dirty Dessie.

Only seen the game on TV but what did Mone do to get McCullough sent off. Did it not seem to be a second yellow for dissent?

Looks like the money is talking in the Dromore v Clontibret game. Clontibret can be backed at 8/5 with Bet 365 having started the week at evens. Massive drift in odds which suggests only one outcome.

The value bet has to Pearse Ogs at a ridiculously big 11/4 with Paddy Power. An Armagh team will have no fear against an Antrim side and with a very tight defence they must have a good chance of getting past an over-rated St Galls outfit. Thats where my money will be going this weekend anyway.

Having originally fancied Clontibret to beat Dromore I believe that now without Mone and more especially McManus that Dromore are a great bet at Evens to win this game.

watch out for this Down team this year under James McCartan and think they could beat armagh no problem

i see he is taking a fresh approach and searching for more talent around the county

believe it or not the talent is actually there in the Down team they just need the right men to run the team and they have that in wee james, mc ilver and tally

Its just that nobody has seen this talent yet outside of Down. Downs performances in the last 7 or 8 years in the championship have been dismal to put it mildly. It wasn't just the teams that beat them but the manner of their defeats against teams like Meath, Fermanagh, Sligo, Wicklow that proved what a mediocre team Down really are.

A lot of blind optimism in Down is due to the fact that Martin Clarke has returned to be their saviour. However to pile the pressure on a player yet to kick a ball in anger at senior level is grossly unfair. The reality is that Down still have a poor defence, still rely on Gordon to carry midfield and Coulter is now past his best. Yet the delusions of grandeur amongst Down fans is unbelievable.

jim mc corry has declined an offer to join the backroom team

POR is fast running out of options to get Armagh men to involve themselves with the set-up. I thought McCorry would have been a good man in the back-room team, lots of experience with a proven track record at club level. The talk is that Jim McConville is going to form part of the set-up now. Can anyone confirm what experience or success he has had at club level?

        PP odds, bit different:

        St Galls           11/4
        St Eunans         9/2
        Dungiven          6/1
        Pearse Ogs       6/1
        Cavan Gaels     6/1
        Clontibret       13/2
        Dromore         10/1
        Loup              10/1
        Ardboe           18/1
        Kilcoo              22/1
        Armagh Harps   22/1
        Derrygonnelly   25/1
        Loughinisland   33/1

Monaghan champion's Clontibret are a great bet at odds 13/2.  Get on them at that price.  Heed the Pieman's advice, it's free.

Ulster Club Football Championship Sunday 18th October 2009, 15:00 Outright Betting  Hide

St Galls  9/4
Loup  9/2
St Eunans  5/1
Pearse Ogs  13/2

Clontibret  12/1
Kilcoo  16/1
Ardboe  28/1

Unbelievable value for Clontibret. Drifter from 13/2 to 12/1. Was there a swine flu epidemic in Clontibret?

Having spoken to a few players past and present it is definitely the case that this appointment was railroaded through without due consideration to the greater well being of Armagh football and was initiated several weeks ago.

How many weeks is several? Did they have a month to think about railroading it?

Believe it or not, yes.

I heard McAlinden wont build another team for someone else to cash in on in a few years time, he wants to be the beneficiary fo someone else's groundwork this time - a sensible position to take.

Have to say I'm glad that Donal Murtagh didn't get it.  Always came across as very arrogant to me, his 'we only train half pace' all summer with Cross ballix annoyed me, how can that type of arrogance and lack of respect to the opposition be good in any County manager?(Even though I always thought he was talking shite when he said it).

IF the players buy into O'Rourke he could do ok, but if a lot of them dont show the required attitude etc.. during the McKenna Cup, early part of the National League, I'd chase them no matter who they are and surround himself with players who'll die for the jersey.  Another year's bitching and backbiting will do no one any good.

From what I've been told by several Down men this was O'Rourkes biggest problem in Down. He got too close to the players and give them too much laissez faire hence the reason the players had nothing but praise for him....however no plaudits are gained in management by making friends with the players. The results at the end of the year will be the true gauge of success or failure.

I'd imagine POR is struggling hugely to get a backroom team in place that will go some way to appeasing the Armagh supporters ie. at least one Armagh man of considerable standing. Most of the ex-players won't go near the present set-up now that the treatment of loyal Armagh men like Smith, Rafferty, Murtagh etc has been laid bare for all to see.

For those who think that O'Rourke is keeping the hotseat warm for McGeeney to walk into next year then think again because I doubt if McGeeney would go near the county set-up at the moment in its present structure and who could blame him.

Unfortunately its a case of the tail wagging the dog and the real power will continue to lie with a select few in the county board until such time as the status quo ends with a complete cull. Having spoken to a few players past and present it is definitely the case that this appointment was railroaded through without due consideration to the greater well being of Armagh football and was initiated several weeks ago.

I am genuinely surprised that very few, if any Down people seem to have a problem with POR taking the Armagh job. Personally speaking I would be disgusted if an Armagh man crossed the divide to take up the mantle in Down. However maybe this says more about POR's track record as a manager than the Down supporters lack of concern for O'Rourkes disloyalty.
