We need results on the field to get the vibe going thats why Creedon is doing untold damage.  This is not entirely of his making but unfortunately he can not lift us from it.   Cut the cord sooner rather than later, we are only wasting time.  Portarlington, Portlaoise, Graigue & Mountmellick are providing poor returns on population.  We need to do something radical to get back into these towns.

Alright so BallyroanAbu and Town1980 - given that both of you believe you have the answers - who would you put in charge? Do you really think that even a combination of Micko, Mickey Harte and Jim Gavin would have this Laois team flying?!? Sack the manager and replace him with what exactly?

Creedon has a track record of building from the roots up which takes years, not weeks. He is also a shrewd man in terms of how he sets up his teams. Not his fault that the players can't tackle, kick a score or execute on basic skills at times. How attractive would we be to other prospective managers if we sacked him now? The suggestion is idiotic and very poorly considered. You should get a job with the Trump administration. To look at what is wrong in Laois football we need to look much more closely at the schools, the club structures and championships, and our own county board who have failed miserably to build on the huge successes of the 90s and 00s.

Details below on Laois Today, which is a fantastic resource on Twitter for all laois news

The initiative was set up by 2 Tipp teachers,I also heard that a number of schools refused to participate as the principals aren't that bothered about Gaelic games.

The hurling team is due to be announced shortly

This is brilliant and should be encouraged at club level. In areas like Portlaoise in particular it could be revolutionary. Much of Waterford's success seems to come from promotion of GAA in the city and they have huge participation at schools levels.

If there are schools who are not involved in GAA promotion, they should be named and shamed. I'm sure not all the parents would be happy with disinterested principals.

I remember that it was a beautiful day, in every way!

After 10 minutes it was obvious that there was only going to be one winner. That team had some pace and precision and moved the ball like lightening. None of your running into the corner and passing back out towards the 45 to other stationary men.

So far they hammered Wexford and had a good away win in Galway I believe so this is definitely a surprise.

I'm guessing we didn't have a 'defensive system'!!  ???

There is a clear difference between Lillis and Creedon. Lillis sounded like he just didn't know what was going on and how to address it. In fairness, Creedon does sound like he knows what he is about and his track record in Tipp stands for itself. He is credited with much of the underage and senior transformation down there. I think he will do a good a job as any manager could with these players and I would imagine he is hugely frustrated. The plan is clearly to defend in numbers, which we did well from time to time last night and turned over plenty of ball, and then to break at speed which we didn't have they players to do. We have developed a habit of running laterally and then stopping and hand passing around the fringes and don't have players other than maybe Evan O'Carroll that will take on a defence. I thought Tipp were average last night but at least when they had the ball they ran at pace and didn't pull up when they reached the 45.

The elephant in the room is how poor the quality of player at our disposal. We are now a division 3/4 team. Until there is an influx of new blood it is hard to see things improving. We must be one of the slowest paced teams in Ireland. The forwards movement last night was embarrassing as was the shot selection and execution.

Same sh.it different circus.  Dreadful defending is shambolic.

The skill levels are just dreadful. Too many passengers that look way out of their depth in Division 3. The injured players will make things better but it is blatantly obvious that the quality of footballer we produce in the county these days is not good enough. It is a reflection of our underage teams and our club championship.

He prefers to operate from the stand, much like rugby managers now do. Mentioned it in his interview.

It's a amazing how rumours get started . A few pints all it was actually . People are way too quick too judge . Regarding the match itself it was thoroughly deserved . We can analyse all we want but losing on Saturday would have been catastrophic for this young team . Offalys discipline was poor and they ultimately suffered . Take Dooley out of that team and there in serious bother .
Laois need to cause one major shock in this campaign to avoid a relegation play -off .  One of Wexford ,Galway ,Wexford or Limerick are going to have a major off day for this to happen .

They are in serious bother. But I wouldn't agree that Dooley was up to much. I don't think he offers a whole lot from play.

It is amazing the conclusions that can be drawn in February. We are not so good that Offaly and Shane Dooley won't succeed in seeing us relegated this year.... How would he fare against our current corner backs??

Their FF, Oisin Kelly looks a serious operator.

Ideal?
Offaly will hardly beat Kerry. And whether Laois can be competitive against the rest of the league is a big 'if'!

Should Offaly beat Kerry, we would only need to be 'more competitive' than both Kerry and Offaly? That is, not get hammered by 20 points in each of our 3 remaining games. 3 x 10 point losses might be enough to avoid a relegation play off! If Kerry beat Offaly then it will almost certainly be a play off in Tullamore.

We don't win too many games. None in last years league so we should be glad of a rare win.

I thought we were the better team when Offaly had 15 men and we were poor when they had 13. Winning possession is a huge problem for this team and we competed well until we had spare men and went to sleep for the last 15 minutes again. We gave them no space in the first half but allowed them to find men all over the field in the closing stages. Seem to lose focus and lack a killer instinct.

All in all, our forwards were good and lively and scored some great points. Not sure Paddy Whelan is a forward but the other five played well. Paddy Purcell was excellent in the middle. Ben Conroy will grow into the position. Cian Taylor and Sean Downey are very young and light but have serious potential and both really added to the team last night. Cahir and Mullaney were very strong and lifted it when we lost Matthew and Podge Lawlor. Mullaney really seems to have the right temperament for inter county and is very aggressive. Leigh Bergin played brilliantly and seems to be in the right place when he is needed. Will need time in the position too. We are seriously lacking in corner back cover.

And if they are not successful with the paw they should be making damned sure that the guy they are marking doesn't make the catch.....

There can be a debate about clubs amalgamating etc but the key point that I keep going back to is the lack of planning for the future at Co level. As I've said on so many occasions a plan for laois hurling must be devised structurally, financially supported and followed through by a full time director of hurling and a team working under him. I believe it's a travesty that the one man that had the vision and the passion to make it happen is no longer involved at any County level.

Absolutely agree, we can talk about numbers and physical size etc etc all day long but none of that matters if the above is not implemented. We are LITERALLY 10/15 years behind the likes of Dublin/Clare/Kilkenny when it comes to coaching and structures and organisation.

Whatever about being behind the 3 counties you mention when you have a massive hurling population like Tipp or Cork, forget about it when you have 8 senior standard clubs and the population of south Laois.

In fairness, the quality of player development has improved but still has miles to go. We are probably on a par with Offaly and Westmeath which isn't saying a whole lot.

Seriously competitive half back line. Will need to be.

Winning primary possession has been the number one failing of this team in the last couple of years. The Kerry game showed this again. Cahir is a good addition to the middle 8 but MAJOR improvement is needed from the other 7 in the air and on the ground.

Minor Challenge in Portlaoise,yesterday

Laois 0-07 Tipperary 5-27

By all accounts, and results, this is quite a weak minor team. Seemingly the U14 and U16 teams coming up after them are much more promising.
