Was at the match, Evan looked dangerous in the first half when Ballina had the pull in the Middle of the Field. He missed four frees and kicked one good point from play. He kicked some very good frees from the wrong side for him. He seems to have bulked up. When Garry took over the Midfield he looked very ordinary when 50/50 ball went in. He could be an option off the bench alright.

Was at a Senior Championship game last weekend, there was a scramble in around the goals and referee awarded free out. Attacking player pleaded that defender picked ball on small square. Referee consulted with umpire and changed his decision to a penalty. Is the umpire permitted to call technical fouls within the current playing rules

These comments from Horan would worry me, this is still largely his team and no doubt he is getting feedback from the Squad. My reading is that he is telling Buckley to take the lead as he feels Connelly/Holmes have lost control of proceedings.

Hope this is not the case, as we will have a short year if they have lost the respect of the players already.

Does anyone seriously believe that Keane and Coen are going to man the Central positions come Salthill. I'd say Kevin Walsh will pray every night between now and then for them two to start. It looks like the new management are intent on breaking up the best line we had in our half back line and introducing the two young lads from their own clubs, Would like to see M Forde get a run, he was very impressive with Sligo IT in the Sigerson. I'd say Colm Boyle and Ger Caff are getting nervous as the new setup dont seem to fancy them.

For all the talk of defensive formations. What abbout fresh blood. Gallagher,Ronaldson, Conroy,Sweeney,Varley, O Connor all tried before, even Evan and Stephen Coen had played league football under the previous regime. Only one new player given game time in Patrick Durcan. Maybe there is no new talent in the County but I would of liked to see Crowe, Dravins, Jack Reilly get a run. By the way, what did Neil Douglas do wrong.

Claremorris installed their own Knockmore Legend the Weekend - Liam O' Neill.

Not the time to panic. Todays game doesnt mean much long term but slightly worrying our lack of tactical appreciation of what Tyrone would bring. We need to learn that Donie Vaughan is not a Midfielder and play a Natural Midfielder in there. Stephen Coen no matter how many chances he is given will never have the pace for Intercounty Football, let him play with the U21's. Kevin Keane is a winter footballer and also lacks the necessary speed to deal with top FF's in Championship football.

Would like to see a Centre Back who will hold the Centre with a physical presence maybe SOS.

Lads, hope you will be happy with the team come Sunday evening. I have seen more pace in Junior B Full Back lines apart from Keith obviously. Maybe they will swap Chris Barrett and Stephen Coen but pace is a prerequisite for modern Full Back Lines.

Speaking to someone at the match last night, Evan missed some very scoreable frees. Not playing to the same standards as this time last year. Hopefully, he regains that form because we need new blood in the FF line. Brian Gallagher took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second period of Extra Time and won the game for Sligo, albeit he was poor up to then.

Just home lucky enough to win.

1. Rob Hennelly - Great save near the end saved our bacon.
2. Darren Mc Hugh - Will be satisfied with his debut, scored a good point and wasn't in any trouble defensively.
3. Ger Cafferkey - Looked very shaky early on, but settled and done ok before being replaced
4. Stephen Coen - Was in huge trouble when Comer moved in, lacks pace for Corner Back, played better when moved into Half Forward Line.
5. Chris Barrett - Very good, probably our second best player,
6. Kevin Keane - Physically Strong but pace is his issue.
7. Caolan Crowe  - Started Strong, Faded and then finished strong. Will be pleased enough.
8. Jason Gibbons - Cant seem to rediscover his form of last spring, distribution poor today
9. Alex Corduff - Big Man, but lacks mobility tried very hard.
10. Neil Douglas - Our Best player by a long way, good distributor and kicked a few nice points
11. Adam Gallagher - Good first five minutes and then disappeared. Expected More.
12.  Michael Conroy - Played way too deep, worked tirelessly but role doesn't suit him
13. Evan Regan - Might need firmer ground, overall disappointing but has ability
14. Jason Doherty - Didn't get into game, black card was deserved and might need a break
15. Mark Ronaldson - Mixed the good and bad, got the goal but some things just didn't click

Overall, Early season so cant be too hard on the lads, need to see them mixed in with more of the regulars to make a definitive judgement.

Castlebar dominated Middle of the Field, but no pace in forwards. Garry didn't score for 28 mins, kicked six wides in first half. Castlebar went 9-3 up. Garry got a couple of good points and Castlebar got a flukey enough goal. Garry took over completely and scored 1-4 without reply to leave 2 in it with 8 mins left. Garry kicked three bad wides and Castlebar through Patrick Durcan(0-2) tagged on three points. Garry got  two late points but the bad start did for them.

Castlebar are gone back a mile from last year, Tom King is a huge loss. Kirby was excellent in MF and Big Barry scored three from play. Will need to improve their forward play drastically if they are to trouble Tubber. Garry had them on the rack with 8 mins to go but hadn't the quality to finish them off.  Crowe turned his ankle last weekend and probably shouldn't have played.
