Yup, today's FBD final is the big one for ye Rossies alright.

Given the last couple of years with our senior team its an All Ireland to us. Just hope we dont do a Mayo on it though......... but there again no one but Mayo can quite pull that particular act off so well.

Mr T which stands for Mr Testicle. Same guy is also know as Tommy Twisted Testicle or 3T.
Fella in question (Tommy) when younger walked across the top bar of a gate in his shitty wellies and naturally slipped and went straight down on the top rung of the gate. (Most men cross their legs at this point of the story and wince) When his father found him an hour or so later lying unconcious in a pool of liquid cow sh1t with a couple of curious cow sniffing and dribbling on his head, his ball sack had swollen to 3 times its normal size and was a purple/black colour. The doctor in the hospital had to slice part of his sack to releave the pressure and when his balls finally returned to there normal size one of them was pointing upwards (like a rugby ball standing on end) rather then the normal way. Hence ever since he has been know as Tommy twisted testicle or Mr T!!

Few others include Billy Me (dude likes talking about himself),
Fathead (has a pumpkin sized head),
The Tit (cos he is a tit),
Comeoffeh (like to say "come off it" in Brummie accent sounds like comeoffeh),
Skaramanga (after midget character in James Bond Golden eye film)
Boon (after the old tv series)
Cueball (bald since he was 17)
The bitch (cos he is a moody hormonal fecker)
Bones (skinnist fella you ever met)
Hiace (he is from Moyvane in Kerry pronounced My Van)
Convict (had a few run ins with John Law!)
Chewey (can take off Chubaca from star wars perfectly, looks like him too)

General discussion / Re: Prague

Anyone recomend a hotel in Prague? Heading over now in October with Mrs NT so anything reasonable that isn't a dive please?  ;D

Stayed here http://andel.praguehotels.it/overview.html?source=googleh-andel+hotel+prague last summer with the quare one for a few nights. Fab spot and we got upgraded to a penthouse suite too ;D We got a good deal when booking as we booked about 6 months in advance, no idea what its like now tbh.

It's in the Andel (angel in English) district (hence the name) and is literally a 1 minute walk to the excellent subway system or if you prefer the trams are 30 seconds away. (always makes me wonder how Eastern European cities can have public transport like this while we still have a few rattling buses ploughing around) Takes approx 10 minutes to get to the city centre from here on subway and maybe 15/20 minutes on the tram depending on which one you use. Its a nice area, obviously got a major face lift over the last few years. There is a shopping centre around the corner from the Hotel (Tesco's are there! Did not know they had expanded that far into Europe) and in the general area a Pizza place, steak house, shoe shops, clothes shops, cinema and loads of other wee shops etc. Nice, clean, quiet and well kept area and not too far away from the city centre.

One of many nicknames I picked up in my school days, (tank, fozzie, the fonz being some of the others). I'm a big fecker and had a tendency to charge at lads head down during my sporting endeavours. After scattering a few fellas out of my path somebody came up with Rhino/Ryano.

My surname is Ryan so they stuck on "o" on the end and there ya go!

GAA Discussion / Re: Ros v Donegal 19th July

The three stooges in black ruined this game. Three sendings off!!! Are they taking the piss? John Bannon is a muppet at the best of times but by God he found two clowns this evening to complete the trio. How or why Cathal Cregg was shown a straight red is beyond me, Cathal and most of the fans. Nobody from either side in the crowd could tell why the linesman advised Bannon to show red. A joke. But the other sendings off just took the biscuit. The Donegal player fell and caught Dunnings leg and held on. Dunning shook his leg free they both fell to the ground hopped up and got on with the game. Hand bags at 10 paces. Plike lines man kept his flag in the air for 3/4 minutes until he got Bannons attention and both were shown red cards. The Ros bench went nuts and rightly so. In the end the Gardai had to go in and quieten things down. The penalty Roscommon were awarded simply was not a penalty. Bookings were handed out were they not deserved and were they were nothing was done. No consistancy (apart from the awful performance of the ref and his linesmen) and in the end it killed what was a competative entertaining ganme. Ros handed Donegal a 2 goal lead in the first 10 minutes but then got going and it was actually a good game. Even after Cregg was sent off it was still a good close match but once Ros were reduced to 13 it was curtains. I don't normally criticise refs as they have a difficult job but it's hard not to when you seen what they did this evening. A disgrace and I'm sure Ros will end up getting a severe repremand over the scenes at ht and also after the second sending off.

The three stooges should be also repremanded! Well done Donegal, deserved win just a pity the game ended with 20 minutes left.

I remember being impressed with that Kilbride lad when I saw him before (this year's Galway match?).

One of the promising lads coming up through the ranks or into the senior panel this year and next. There are some very talented lads there and Ros will be competative again in the coming years as they mature. It's just a matter of time. Keep an eye too on Cathal Cregg at No. 13. One of the few bright sparks on the current panel. Given the right ball and support he will cause major trouble for any defense.

Hasn't Gary Cox been in the Ros side for years?

He has but he has been in the CHF line up until the Galway game when he was switched to CHB. Has not had a good season at all. Everything he touched he made a hames of so his confidence cannot be good. On top of that when he played his first game at CHB he had to mark none other the one Padraig Joyce! End result he got sent off for two yellows so he cannto be feeling too good about himself at the moment. Needs a good game to get his confidence back. A talented fella no doubt but very much a confidence player too.

Where's big O'Neill?
I see him in the subs - surely he will start?

Mongo sorry Shaq O'Neill deserves to be on the bench. He has not played a good game for Ros in years. Comes in and out of the match and cannot find any consistancy. He got a slap in the puss in a club match a few weeks ago and picked up a injury so this combined with his awful performances finds him on the bench where he belongs. Needs to get the finger out big time and start turning in some good performances.

Roscommon kicked it away. 9 first half wides when they were dominating the game says it all. Mayo kept their heads, plugged away, took theirs scores well and fully deserve their win. Sickner for Ros, thats 2 finals in a row they lost which they were more then capable of winning.

Should action be taken against the garda who told porkies?

Don't think that's why it collapsed.

And even if a Garda did tell "porkies" there was more then him telling them. I'd like to see Bik explain how or his finger prints were found all over the crime scene.

This subject was brought up last year and i'm sure it will come up again many more times.

My own idea is to keep a type of provincial championship but not in its current format. Why not do away completely with the National league first. Then abolish the championships in Conn, Mun, Uls and Lein. In there place have 4 groupings, North, South, East and West made up of eight teams, just for example group/area West could be made up of Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Ros, Galway, Mayo, W.Meath and Clare. Then let the eight teams in each grouping play each other home and away with the top 2 teams going forward to a national 1/4 final, then semi and AI final. This way plenty of games of championship standard for each county and each county is not relying on just their ability to beat the bigger teams or win one game to progress. For example Roscommon could loose to both Galway and Mayo but still go through if Galway or Mayo loose games else where in the group. Under the current set up Ros lost one match to Galway this year, Tyrone, Meath, Sligo, Donegal all in the same boat and they are out and without another game for several weeks! Madness!

The current league and championship formats are waaaay too out dated and are just not working or benifitting the weaker counties in any way shape or form. The whole thing needs to be looked at from top to bottom and some radical ideas come up with.

I always thought it was the railway that was stopping the development of Hill 16 and Nally stands.

My understanding is that when Dublin get around to building an underground station, one of the stops will be under Croke Park. This could possibility mean they can do away with the line running behind the McNally Stand and Hill 16.

I did that tour of Croker last year. There is a platform area already laid under one of the stands for a train station. They have signal lights installed and a raised platform area fenced off to one side. Our guide told us that CIE were invited to put a station in but they declined at the time. She also told us that they had plans to build part of Hill 16 out over the current train tracks that run behind it. However CIE again stopped them doing this as (get this) CIE owned the airspace above the rail tracks and they were unwilling to let the GAA built part of the propsed Hill stand in it! Thats why we have the stunted half arsed current lay out.

I presume Kevin Moran is the only one in the first category. Dinny Allen and Dave Barry are the only ones I can think of as likely candidates in the second, though I don't know whether they won soccer medals.

Yep Dinny Allen. Won a FAi cup medal with Cork Hibs in 73 or 74 not sure which.

Joe Barrett, Kerry and JJ Reilly, Cavan.

Spot on bosco.

Easy enough one to finish (gotta do some work)....

Name the players who won AI medals as well as an FA cup medal and AI medal as well as an FAI cup medal.

Apologies lads that should be 7 captains. I stupidly omitted Deccie O'Sullivan......

Seán Flanagan of Mayo, Enda Colleran of Galway, Tony Hanahoe of Dublin and Jimmy Murray of Roscommon are correct.... 2 to go!

The late Jimmy Murray by any chance? Including a replay in 43 or 44 I think

Top marks.

Jimmy Murray was also the first man to captain his county to win back to back senior AI's titles in 43 and 44. Another good table quiz question!

Can anyone name the 7 captains who have lifted Sam twice?

Anyone name the only man to captain his county in 5 senior All Ireland football final appearances?
