I'd imagine he's aportioning blame on the talking front to both sides and rightly so.

Allen blames board, rules out resolution

QuoteJohn Allen, the former Cork hurling manager, has blamed the county board for the row with the Rebels' senior hurlers and said there is little prospect of a resolution being found to the ongoing impasse.

Allen, who guided a Cork side full of the row's chief protagonists to All-Ireland success in 2005, says the county board "have sought confrontation" and lacked "respect" in their dealings with the players.

The timing of Allen's words, the day after it was confirmed that the players have decided to meet Gerald McCarthy and the entire executive of the board en masse, will further erode any hopes of finding an immediate resolution to the festering dispute.

Allen is adamant that the players will not play under McCarthy, and the word on the street on Leeside on Wednesday was that the players were willing to engage with McCarthy merely to reiterate their stance on the issue.

"I put the blame squarely at the feet of the executive of the Board. They have sought confrontation this year, last year and 2002," said Allen.

"They would not engage with the players or have respect for their view.

"They ploughed ahead and made a decision when the players didn' t want a decision taken.

"The two words needed most are 'trust' and 'respect' and I think they have broken down. It will be very hard to rebuild bridges.

"I want a resolution and I hope for one, but I just don't see the players and the management being in that dressing room for 2009.

"That's my opinion, but from what I know is going on and what we have all read publicly, I can't see the players working with Gerald McCarthy. All that has been said has made it much worse."

Orangemen - how mny times are you going to pull that line out about people who show you up? if someone out manoeuvres you in a debate, you cannot just keep claiming that its because they are belligerent and unyielding.

you'll have to make a reasonable point someday if you want to enhance your reputation

Good performance from queens last night in bad conditions. Antrim were Be Rootal.

Crozier was mighty at full forward throughout and vernon had a great second half. Queens defence was rock solid also. Loughrey and McGolderick played some great football also. Young lad Bayne also looks like the makings of very fine footballer.

Courtney was suspended

Was he thoughhhhhhh!

I think Vernon hit at leats three from play.

How do you mean?

GAA Discussion / Re: These New Rules are a joke

QuoteQueens manager Aidan O'Rourke has opened a hornet's nest by questioning the harshness - and validity - of suspensions meted out under the experimental rules.

The Armagh man was without Paul Courtney for last night's facile win over Antrim after the midfielder picked up yellow cards in successive matches - and thus incurred a two-week ban.

O'Rourke opted not to field Courtney. However, he feels confident he would have been able to get away with using the player had he chosen to do so...

"As things stand, the experimental rules were brought in for the McKenna Cup and other provincial competitions but there was no supplementary disciplinary rules brought in with the new rules.

"By the letter of the law, two double-yellows within 48 weeks bring you the suspension, but you can't get two yellows with these new rules, so it seems unfair. Boys are getting two-weeks suspension for two relatively small misdemeanours.

"We have looked into it and it is our understanding that we are in the right. Last year's rules are being used for the provincial competitions and I think we could fight it and win if we needed to.

"It means Paul may be missing out on matches that he really shouldn't have to miss, and that isn't on."

Super performance from my alma mater on saturday night. didn't get but the first hand accounts bode well. obviously cavan were very weak and rusty but its no often a uni gives a county tem a hiding and i hear it should have been much more.

i think we could give armagh a real game sunday and possibly beat them. queens are a slick outfit with some quality footballers.

Amen to that.

I've been trying to follow this debat but i have to say that Orangeman's stuff and his refusal to acknowledge or understand other people's points has been frustrating to read. while i'm typing - reillers - do you have to write a book with every post?

As bennydorano says, a comprehensive humping for Queens. they were very poor and there was little bite in the game, which was the very least i expected.
DCU had quality on the ball all over the pitch and outfought and out muscled the queens men in every sector.

disappointing to hear about damien McCaul's injury in dublin, which marred a great win down there for the poly.
best wishes damien.

Am i reading this totally wrong or are they not looking funding for their third level grants, benevolant funds and insurance schemes?

Poly playing DIT in dublin this afternoon (1.00pm) and Queens playing DCU in Armagh this evening (7.30pm).

Two very evenly matched quarter finals.

P.S. - Superhans. if you could spell "university" correctly in the title of this thread it'd make it a lot easier to seach for!

At least it should be a relatively "fresh" United team for the Arsenal on saturday -

                  VDS

Neville Ferdinand Vidic Evra

Ronaldo Carrick Anderson Park

        Rooney  Berbatov
