Yes, the Dalls defence is great and if I had a fit Mc Cambridge I'd have him on, great hurler, McManus needs to be in defence, or midfield. Think the game will be low scoring depending on the weather, there is usually a gale blowing down one end at these games.

It's who adopts on the day Loughrea will be very hungry and have a lot to prove considering the bad press they got after the County final. Having attended all of Dunloys semi finals I was always impressed by the fact they never panic. Providing they don't let them take a big lead this game could go either way.

I think I will be going to the Gorts game that day (no offence Cushendall) I'm hopping they get to the final.

One thing about these games that I have watched at this stage is the referee will give you nothing and will not think about sending you off, stay within the rules.

Antrim / Antrim Hurling

Thought I would start up this thread as the Antrim football hurling one has turned into the football only one!!!

Anybody any ideas of the team selection for the match this Sunday? Low-key preparation, are they confident for the National league? I see no changes to the senior hurling leagues this year or the championship format. Will Loughgiel finally deliver this year or will the Johnnies make the graded this year.

Heading down to Salthill to watch the first game in Feb will we have the Cushendall boys then?

Just got word that the old south Antrim hurling leagues will be starting up again, this will be good providing all clubs participate this time and all the hassles of the previous attempts fixed. Refereeing was always the problem and a lot of teams couldn't be bother to turn up.

This was the main reason why we (Naomh Gall) asked to play in All County leagues, but if there is good numbers for the league then it should bring more hurling into Belfast........ Any Thoughts?

The days of plenty of people giving up their free time is gone. I've been helping senior and juvenile teams for a number of years and still playing, when members of the club sit on their holes expecting or wondering why the kids are not as good as they were when they were that age. On a Saturday (juvenile football) morning at my club we have any amount of good ex and current senior players coming down to coach the next generation and one coach is looking after up to 6/7 kids.

Sunday (juvenile hurling) mornings! completely different three coaches looking after sometimes up to fifty kids. Madness!!! Football is simple bag of balls some bibs and cones and the kids are off playing away. Hurling, well that's a different matter. I believe some clubs wish they did not play hurling as it cost an absolute fortune in equipment, jerseys, balls and sticks, not to mention juvenile helmets. Another area which is letting us down is the schools, most teachers now days are women (no offence to women posters) they don't have the same interest in taking the kids hurling after school. Also parents seem to be afraid to let their wee darlings play as they see it as a dangerous sport. And we know different. Not too much footage of handbags on UTV when hurling is on.

Anyway got that of my chest. Kids are back this weekend indoor hurling camps Saturday and Sunday.

Speaking to one of the panellist, and he's saying training is going well and he sees a definite improvement since they started, all the lads seem to be doing there own training on top of the work being done at the Ballymena complex.
Looking to head down for overnight stay in Galway for the league game, I've got over the selection of the managers now and will get behind the current boss's. most people had no problem with the men in at the minute just the timing.

Slow, is your team looking for any challenge games in February? If so let me know.

Back to work this Monday, can't wait was getting cabin fever.

Anyway yes we have entered the Ulster league, was an executive decision last year with the footballers at Croke. But looking forward to this year's competition.

Anybody any ideas of the structures? Would be unfair of us and Dunloy to waltz in and to the top division, well us anyway. What dates will they be? Looking forward to the year. Any venues/dates for the all Ireland club semis (hurling)?

Onto football, I'm sure most of our posters will be at the match this week to cheer on the new look Antrim team!!! I'm personally looking for an improved team from last year as the county committee believe that Jody is the ticket. I'm pleased (honestly) that he has taken a firm stance with certain players and although it will take time with the new boys I'm sure over the course of the 3 years Antrim will get better (well they couldn't get any worse) ;D
