Damian Healy (Westmeath)

Jaysus. Is Healy trying to break the single season record for clubs or what?  ;D

St. Mary's, Salthill and that London club all within 12 months.

GAA Discussion / Re: New Kerry Management

QuoteThe team will be trained by John Sugrue, who plays midfield for county champions South Kerry.

Wow, jaysus, I didn't see that coming. Fair play to John, he's a fierce nice fella, and it's good to see him getting this boost. He moved back from portlaoise to open his own practise in Killarney, but suffered an injury soon thereafter which would have stopped him working for a while at least. He also missed out on the County Championship win this year as well.

It's gas that he is a trainer for Kerry, there are quite a few who would have seen him as the prototype natural Kerry midfielder. If he came from a more fashionable club than Renard, or had been 5 years younger when South Kerry started to hit the heights, he would have been a Kerry midfielder I think.

He's hugely dedicated as well, often making that journey every weekend from Portlaoise to Renard, which is approximately 4 hours.

This might be a good move politically as well, as the South Kerry lads would have great time for John, so they will feel they have a lad in their corner too.

Quoteespecially if it's more the one club doing well.

That's the key, a strong championship, rather than strong teams every so often. Eire Óg were one of the top sides in Ireland, as were Clann na Gael from Roscommon, Carlow and Roscommon didn't do too much in their peaks though. I think that, apart from the obvious Crossmaglen exception, any county where a club wins 3 or more in a row are going to struggle to win at Inter County Level.

I'm an avowed Setanta disciple at this stage. NASN, the Premiership, the Celtic League Rugby, The Club GAA and the NAtional League Coverage all mean that if I had to choose between Sky Sports and Setanta at this moment, I think I'd be going with Setanta.

Good result, and nice to move up into 4th, although it still is not that fluid. Fulham were woeful.

I though Carra scored in the Champions league a couple of seasons ago? Must be his first league goal since 99.

Finnan was good today. Our own Mr. Consistancy.

Contact them there neilthemac. They have a contacts link on the site, they might come and do a demo for you if you are really interested. Ferbane is not far of a spin for you anyway I think?

I think, in fact, the most vehement opposition to this proposed stadium is from the supporters of Northern Ireland. Most GAA people seem to not really give a toss either way.

There's a new breed of hurleys after being launched there recently. I know the lad that runs the company, but am not involved in anyway, so this is information, not soliciting.!

Lads, I haven't entered this in weeks and am still in 15th place. Are the lads from 15 down that bad, or have they all got new babies as well? :)

Charlie,

As my name impliies, I am from Offaly, not Kerry. I just know a bit about the scene down there through family connections.

That is true ball hopper, but do you not feel there would be immense pressure on South Kerry to 'nominate' a Crokes player, especially if they win the Munster Club, and seeing as they were the second best team in Kerry?

When Jack O'Connor dropped Declan, he gave the captaincy to Gooch. Declan was still 'captain' but Gooch was captain on the field.

South Kerry will nominate Bryan or Dec to be captain but if O'Shea doesn't pick them, I presume he can decide who is captain on the field?

If Gooch is captain on the field, will Pat O'Shea give Declan a game, knowing that doing so will make him captain again automatically?

I know there is ill-feeling on all sides down there over this issue, last years Brosnan v Declan selection issue, the bitterness after this years final etc, etc.

I'm not saying it will be unpleasant down there, but I'll be keeping an ear to the ground. Can't beat a good conspiracy theory :)

P.S. Good for you to be in sunny Phoenix. God be with the days :)

GAA Discussion / Re: County final results?

I'd say we could help you here.

Offaly Football was Rhode 2-6 Clara 0-09.

Offaly Hurling ended in a draw the First day 1-8 for Coolderry, 0-11 for Birr. Birr won the replay but I'm not sure of the score....

I'm delighted to hear this. I know he's been considering staying out in Australia for a while. It will make for an interesting dilemma for O'Shea when he gets back. As South Kerry have won the 3 in a row, and Declan is the only regular on the Kerry set up, (Bryan Sheehan would be closest apart from him) would O'Shea return the captaincy to Dec after all the sh1t last year when he comes back, probably at the expense of a Gooch or Brosnan??

I think we played Crokes in a tournament match in John Mitchells in Tralee back in 1992. They were All Ireland Club champions I think, and we beat them by a couple of points. The only thing I remember from that game was that Connie Murphy got stretchered off in agony after tearing his knee ligaments by getting his foot caught as he chased after one of our lads. It was very sad for him, and more or less finished him off I think. He was a good one.

QuoteCrokes aren't the most popular club in Kerry (or even Killarney) but most Kerry people will support them I'd say.

The first part is correct SuperDooper, but I'm not sure about the second. My bias is South Kerry based with a good few friends and in-laws down there, but I doubt any of them will be shouting for the Crokes.
