General discussion / Re: Trevor Brennan does a Cantona!
January 22, 2007, 06:43:53 PM
"It is on the BBC's website - they are hardly likely to allow someone to use that forum merely to satisfy a private agenda (e.g. defending Ulster fans willy-nilly);".

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that.

"or it could even be that the French cops might not have welcomed charges against a popular local sportsman"

No offence but that statement is taking the piss.

"Or simply that he just wanted to get the hell home and forget about the whole thing "

Funny that photos of him posing his sporting his damaged jaw after the incident appeared everywhere.(hardly wanting to forget about it)

If Brennan went up there because someone called his pub shite then good enough for him he's  abigger clown than i though he was. I still find it hard to believe that any person with even half a braincell would climb 8 rows through the Ulster fans to pick out one individual who called his pub shite. And until i hear from a neutral i don't believe it.

i think i'll believe it when i hear a neutral voice on the matter. i don't think George brennan, Ulster rugby fans or BBC Northern Ireland reporters qualify under that heading in my book. Apparently the Toulouse forum seems to support Brennan's claims - i would say we'll never find out exactly what happened. And again i'd ask why isn't he pressing charges?

He's right though a minority of the Ulster rugby supporters are a different breed. It's well known that that they have a few clowns following them at Ravenhill  that would abuse opposing players at lineout time for example. It really wouldn't surprise me if the allegations are true.

hang on a second lads- there is two sides to everything. Why isn't that supporter banned from attending a match again. There is far too much acceptance from people (you hear it in Croke Park too) that those sort of insults go unpunished. I doubt very much lads if one of your fans in Croke Park started chanting that sort of abuse to the opposition that you'd complain to the stewards. No of course you wouldn't you'd adopt the herd mentality and say - ah! sure it's only a bit of craic. It's very easy for people to take the moral high ground but professional sportspeople are human beings as well.

true but then again tyrone people always have the squeaky clean Gerard Cavlan to hold up as an example to all those budding stars up there.

allegedly - he called brennan's mother a whore and started chanting it repeatedly. In fairness he'd have to say something fairly bad for Brennan to do that. And if that is what transpired- fair play Trev i'd have done the same. Gareth thomas also had to be restrained.

GAA Discussion / Re: Wiclow vs Dublin
January 20, 2007, 10:19:45 PM
everyone played well in the first half- aside from a couple of ropey moments at the back. Not exaggerating but the top 4 club sides in Dublin would beat Wicklow. Kicked some good point up front with -broagn-keaney and connolly. In terms of a 70 min performance Keaney was probably best. Brennan did well- O Shea and Griffin had a good battle with Earls. Moran had a few ropey moments at centre half.
The wind made it  a game of two halves but i thought personally Dublin faded badly. Not sure how good these matches will be v tyrone. Can't help feeling ther mc kenna cup is light years ahead of the o byrne cup.

dublin 0-15 (keaney- brogan added points)
wicklow 1-5

very poor second half by dublin- faded badly-  brogan or keaney prob man of the match. Just in  reference to Bogball (who wasn't watching the game) - i would be surprised if there are many teams out there worse than wicklow. Dublin had 5 starters from the mayo game last year -that's wicklow's full team bar one. If I were Micko i'd be concerned.
Dublin will get there first test next week- but the tyrone match will be a different ball game. Forwards showed well- connolly played well even though he has a habit of fading out of games. Brogan and kenaey were excellent- bonner roasted the full back before he went off and derek murray had a fine game. Backs were solid rather than spectacular but i still think this where the difficulties lie. O Mahony had a great first half but again faded badly. Full back looks like it will be still an issue.

h/t dublin 0-13 - wickla 1-1

keaney 0-4 (2f)
connolly 0-5 (3 f)
brogan 0-2
murray 0-1
bonner 0-1
dublin with the wind

wicklow living up to their billing of being the second worst team around. quite honestly micko must be askinh himself what has he let himself in for. a lot of senior club sides would beat wicklow. lack of the basics is astonishing.

January 19, 2007, 05:02:16 PM
you have no right- you're not  aclub and how would you feel if colleges polluted your county championship back home?- do us  all a favour and give it  arest - what makes you think you're entitled to play in 2 championships  a year and everybody else one? Coleges are a pox on the Dublin senior football and hurling championships and the sooner they feck off and play in the college competitions that were set up for them the better for everyone concerned.

GAA Discussion / Re: Physio's in Dublin?
January 19, 2007, 01:42:12 PM
leinster rugby physio james allen is probably the best around certainly in Dublin- although i don't know how many private patients he sees these days with his rugby commitments. Kelly specialises in deep friction massage i think- he isn't a chartered physio so to speak.

funny enough the one the Aussie rules clubs missed out on was Sean Og. because i believe he'd have been sensation at Aussie Rules- because personally i believe he's more driven than the other 2. not that they aren't determined as well- just that Sean Og could be a star at any sport because he's such a natural athlete.
