Dyas leaving Collingwood to return home

Kevin Dyas is returning to Ireland
Tuesday, 29 September 2009 14:46
Former Armagh inter county footballer Kevin Dyas has parted company with his Aussie Rules club Collingwood and is returning to Ireland, the club have confirmed.

Dyas, who was a senior panelist with Armagh in 2007, cited a mixture of homesickness and injury as his reason for returning home.

The move comes less than a week after Down's Martin Clarke confirmed he is also leaving Collingwood and returning to Ireland.

Collingwood's chief of football operations Geoff Walsh said: 'Kevin tore his hamstring off the bone late last season, and had to go through a six-month recovery period.

'He got back pretty well to play most of this season with the VFL, but more so it was the difficulty with his restricted training program.

'Unfortunately, he missed a fair bit of footy through the hamstring injury, and that was probably the time where he was in his formative years in terms of development,' he added.

Despite losing both Dyas and Clarke within the space of a week, Walsh confirmed that Collingwood will continue looking towards Ireland for new talent.

'We'll continue to have a network operating for us in Ireland, and if they see players they consider to be prospects, we'll still be positive,' he said

Congrats to all involved with the minors great way to round off a great year unbeaten.

As a young lad of 10 my earliest memory of armagh, was a 17 point hammering in the first round of the ulster at the hands of Derry in the Athletic Grounds in 1995 and then in 1997 a defeat to Tyrone up in Omagh in the championship, so when in 1999 up in ballybofey after the nightmare start, a draw seemed an unreal result, but winning ulster that year was outstanding, the first in 17 years, so if someone would had have siad to me that in the next ten years that we would win our first all ireland 2002 and national league 2005, u21 all ireland 2004, and today a minor all ireland 2009, along with ulster minors 2005, ulster u21 2006, and 7 senior ulsters i would have laughed my head off so thanks Armagh for a great ten years and hopefully the next ten will be even better.

Mc Cartan, Tally and Mc Iver will form a great team - it won't be their fault if things go wrong again.

GAA Discussion / Armagh Players Release Statement
September 11, 2009, 11:53:26 AM
Taken from RTE sport

The Armagh Senior Football panel have taken the extraordinary step of releasing a statement to express their disappointment at the selection process for a new manager for the county.

Earlier this week the task of naming a new manager took a major back step when the five-man selection committee resigned after becoming frustration with a lack of progress.

The Armagh players believe the lack of support from county executive level was behind the decision.

The now Monaghan assistant Paul Grimley had been put forward for the job and the players identify in their statement that a 'primary candidate', thought to be Grimley, has the support of the panel, but outside forces are stopping him being appointed.

The statement said: 'The clubs via their nominations identified a primary candidate to whom the players remain supportive but due to what we see as personal agendas, and a flawed process, their voices have been overlooked.

'We also believe that those entrusted with safeguarding this ideal are not acting accordingly and thus no longer retain our confidence.'

Grimley has denied speculation he will take the job if it is offered to him, claiming he will not go back on a decision to take the role with Monaghan.

He said: 'I have given Seamus McEnaney my word and intend to stick by that.'

The players are now calling for a county board meeting to discuss what they call 'the gravest of situation' to allow their opinion to be aired.

1st choice would have to be the current kildare management, but I think that everyone here is forgetting about  Peter Rafferty  who was the manger of the last armagh team to win an all ireland the U21s in 04 if we stay in house for a manager i think hed have to be considered if interested.

The Attendances may not be the same next week £8/10 Euro in no student rate for a competition that has 3 student sides in it is very disappointing, if there was tv coverage of the armagh game yesterday ud have switched over after 10 mins very poor game antrims best player was an armagh man. armagh were very poor against a 2nd nearly 3rd string antrim side.
