You will be better off keeping your questions for after the championship.

Contestants will pick one team from each of the 6 bowls below, and only one.  Those 6 will be your teams for the entire competition and no more needs to be done.

Contestants will also predict the winner and runner-up of the tournament by stating who beats whom in the Final.  Picks for the final do not have to be from the contestant's bowl picks and can have teams from the same bowl.

Scoring System:

Euro 2024 Group stages (3 games):

1 point for each goal scored.

1 point for each point earned in Group play (three for a win, one for a draw, zero for a loss).

Knockout Stages:

3 points for every win (whether in normal time, extra time or after penalties), 1 point for a losing team that took the game to extra time or penalties, no points for a team beaten in normal time.
2 points per goal scored in normal time and extra-time only, no points for penalties scored in shoot-out.

Bowl 1:  England, Italy, France, Germany

Bowl 2: Spain, Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium

Bowl 3: Turkey, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark

Bowl 4: Czech Republic, Scotland, Ukraine, Croatia

Bowl 5: Serbia, Poland, Hungary, Romania

Bowl 6: Slovakia, Slovenia, Georgia, Albania

Please make your picks in bowl order and don't forget your Final match prediction (winner and runner-up).

Let's try to keep this thread about the Competition only, comments on the tournament/games/crowds/lassies in crowd and so on can be posted in the other thread.

Any interest in a competition for Euro 2024?

Thanks Estimator...

Sometimes I don't have much faith is people's ability to read and retain.

GAA Master Fixtures Booklet 2024 contains all the info (pg 28 for deciding teams on level points), but why would any posters bother reading the rule book on competitions, let alone the rules of playing.

Quote from: Armagh18 on May 29, 2024, 05:21:07 PMIn the event that two teams or more finish with equal points, but have been affected by a disqualification, loss of game on a proven objection, retirement or walkover, the tie shall be decided by the following means:

(i) Least number of Walkovers given.
(ii) Score Difference from the games in which only the teams involved, (teams tied on points), have played each other (subtracting the total Scores Against from the total Scores For)
(iii) Highest Total Score For, in which only the teams involved have played each other, and have finished equal in (ii)
(iv) Highest Total Goals For, in which only the teams involved have played each other, and have finished equal in (ii) & (iii)
(v) A Play-Off

From opening page on this thread. Fair chance we lose to Derry and beat Galway and everyone beats Westmeath. In that case score difference only from the games between us, Derry and Galway would come into it.

That's why Derry can't finish top unless we beat Armagh by 6 or 7 points which just won't happen.

This thread is repeating itself. As I said above, surely you have the option of beating Westmeath by 8 or 9 points instead?
I think the scenario being talked about is one where Derry, Galway and Armagh all beat Westmeath & all end up on 4 points.
Results against Westmeath then don't count in terms of the scoring average calculation - so it wouldn't matter how much they beat Westmeath by.

Fair enough, that is written there, which was a clue.

Not true...you are still referencing walkover scenario.

Why are you lads quoting the part that deals with Walkovers/Disqualifications?

Here's the relevant section on tie-breakers in league/group formats, (which is more or less the same but the legal eagles like D McK would get upset):

When Teams finish with equal points for Qualification for the Concluding Stages, or for Promotion or Relegation, the tie shall be decided by the following means and in the order specified:

(i) Where two Teams only are involved - the outcome of the meeting of the two Teams in the previous game in the Competition;

(ii) Scoring Difference (subtracting the total Scores Against from total Scores For);

(iii) Highest Total Score For;

(iv) Highest Total Goals For;

(v) A Play-Off

From RTE:

The draw for the preliminary quarter-finals of the Tailteann Cup will take place on Sunday, shortly after the conclusion of the group stages.

It will be part of Sunday Sport on RTÉ Radio 1, beginning from 5.40pm.

Eight sides will be in the draw, including four group runners-up, the three best third-placed teams and New York.

The teams that finish in second place in their group will be seeded and will also have home venues for the matches.

Teams which progress from the preliminary round will go on to meet a group stage winner in the quarter-finals.
