Head scratcher..........

Hasn't the work rate or athleticism for inter county football

Must be that because ability certainly doesn't come into play with majority of the players on that panel...

If you can't get the ball you cant do anything with it

BTW This was directed at Shivers. As someone says its the way the game has gone and is the way it will stay

Sorry, that was a typo. I was meaning wasn't directed at him. Ive heard a few ex county players talking recently saying talent is now overlooked for athletes

What utter BS, I would have thought that those who played the game would know better.

At this level you need both the talent and the application/ athleticism.

Do they actually watch the games and see how hard Clifford works and he is the most naturally talented player of this generation. Hand and glove.
I would suggest a change of subject,

Sadly that is the way Gaelic football is now, a fit player with little or no footballing ability will start ahead of a more talented player.
Pat looked fairly athletic and hardworking up against the mighty St Brigids last Sunday night though ;) and fair play to him for sticking it out with Antrim when hes getting no game time at all, got to be due some credit for that

A biter  ;D

Tier 1 counties in hurling only has 11 teams whereas tier 1 in football has 16.

Down would be one of the top 5 Joe McDonagh counties, hence inside the top 16.

It's elementary my dear man.

Haha So you are top 5 in the second tier of hurling, good stuff

Quote from: Caesar on June 04, 2024, 11:25:25 AMIf I am correct in saying that Corrigan Park is owned by the county as opposed to St Johns, then the club should not be able to dictate in cases like this if they want to be 'stubborn'

Corrigan has been owned by the Johnnies for as long as I can remember.

Might be a bit pedantic but are all the grounds not technically owned by the GAA and that's what the Trustees of the club are for.

Bigger question is will there even be a St John's club in 20/30 years?

Each clubs has the county secretary and the Provincial secretary listed as two of their trustees, but a club can appoint three or more of their own.

FYI Down CB don't own Pairc Esler and I'd hazard a guess that Tyrone don't own Omagh either.

The biggest clubs in Belfast are evidently in County Down going by a recent GAA Social podcast by Oisin and yer man from Lavey.

Bredagh/Carryduff?

Playing membership wise? We have Ladies football at all ages, Camogie started up very recently and we have 4 teams, we have two senior teams in 2 leagues hurling and football,  juvenile teams in both hurling and football all the way down to under 10's ..

I'd know a few of the Carryduff coaches quite well, at a Down underage  Fundamentals blitz they were telling me that at P3-P4 they'd 40 kids at that age for hurling and would probably have almost 50 at the football for those same ages and this would be common all the way up to U14 where they enter two teams in the Down hurling leagues as does Bredagh who are similarly stacked with underage numbers. It brings it's own problems with coaches, pitch availability and all that, but no doubt the Gaelfast coaches are all out to help them.  ;)

I think on that podcast the lad from East Belfast said they'd 200+ adult playing members

Fantastic numbers, with regards to hurling will that convert against the big three in senior? ever?
The Antrim Football thread has become the Down Hurling thread, boys a dear!

What went down?
I will comment as I was there at the game.
At the gate where the players enter the pitch there were several (up to 10) people spectating who clearly had consumed alcohol before the game and were consuming it in plastic glasses during the game. Spectators shouting on the pitch happens everywhere but always seems worse when drink involved.
There were also 3-4 spectators drinking pints on the bank during the game, again not doing any different than other spectators who shout other than the fact they were clearly under the influence.
St Endas a top club but maybe should look at prohibiting supporters drinking alcohol during games while spectating, from what I seen nothing bad happened on Saturday but it could have. If you want to drink do it in the bar.

Cargin also scored a few late goals when the game was dead to put a gloss on the scoreline??

I was at it and your source has gave you a phoney account.
Listen I have seen many people comment on here within last 12 months about Bakers negative tactics, I commented something similar after watching them last night.
Ballymena scored their goal along with 3 or 4 points in the last 10 mins, Cargin were 7 points up at half time ended up scoring 6 goals, could have been 10. Just being honest.

You should have went yourself rather than rely on wee Paddy's report.
Ballymena are a well organsised team to be fair to them, just prob need to work on the fitness to keep the lung busting forward runs required up for 60mins

Are they allegedly playing well? I saw them tonight, fist passing the ball to eachother along the midfield line back and forward, barely ever kicking the ball and conceding every single kickout. If this is playing well I give up.

Let's just say their progress has been noted! Two of our best performers in last years narrow under 20 defeat to Donegal on penalties in Ballybofey..
Add Cahir Donnelly and Johnny Hannon to the promising U20 players above, both v impressive in Cargin v Aghagallon game last night. Not a dig, but Aghagallon quite negative throughout which made Johnnys coring performance all the more impressive.

With the team they had out It's difficult to 'open' up against such a talented Cargin team away from home?
Yes, that is why I said not a dig

Yeah, anyone that's not involved on the team getting themselves involved with that type of carry on needs removed, embarrassing altogether.

So glad it never happens at club level...

fella threw a dig in the heat of the moment, it happens far more than it should, hopefully he apologised after to the other lad. Take the suspension and move on, if it was a player who threw a dig would we be saying he should never play for us again?

Players are different. Youre in a physical battle on the field. Things are said, contact made, adrenaline etc
The fella throwing boys to the floor and punches is a Statman. 100% should be gone!!!
