GAA Discussion / Corcaigh v Ard Mhacha
April 03, 2011, 11:07:41 PM
My first thought in regard to this fixture is fear.  After today's display against Galway you can not help but fear a hiding.  Cork will certainly be out all guns a blazing to secure their place in the league final.

After today's game there were a number of supporters disapointed with how our management reacted both to team selection initially and to tactical awareness during the match and how certain players were not switched off their markers for 70 mins is beyond me.

You are always going to get different opinions from supporters about who should play and who shouldn't. But what worries me most is the shape of the team, or lack of shape, and the system being used.  Many supporters called for an end to the sweeper system after Kerry, today we did not use the sweeper system and you can see what happened, we were exposed defensively. On a positive note I feel that the only player that has developed through the league is Dyas and I feel that he is pushing hard for a championship start.  The team I would play against cork would be;

1. Hearty
2. Mallon
3. Donaghy
4. McKeever (He is a man marker, no doubt)
5. Ak
6.Dyas
7. Duffy
8. Toner
9. Lavery
10. Mackin
11. Stephen Kernan (Call him into the panel asap)
12. Tony Kernan
13. J Clarke
14. McDonnell
15.Vernon   (3rd Mid fielder - today he played at times at wing forward and he kept forgetting tp mark his man from their kickouts)

General discussion / Frank Lampard
April 24, 2009, 08:13:30 PM
FRANK Lampard made an astonishing outburst on live radio today to deny that he is "heartless"....check it out!

The 30-year-old called London station LBC in response to comments made by DJ James O'Brien, who had accused him of abandoning his two daughters.

GAA Discussion / Kildare To Seek Postponement
August 04, 2008, 09:33:22 PM

RTÉ has learned that Kildare County Board are to seek a postponement of their All-Ireland Football quarter-final against Cork.  The reason for this is that that have played matches on the previous three weekends and their county board feels like they should not have to play on a fourth consecative.

Driving home tonight and i heard this on the radio, personally i dont think that they have a chnace in hell.....and i know lots of counties who would not grumble having to play a match in croker at this time of the year

GAA Discussion / Cavan club banned for 6 months
June 24, 2008, 10:01:54 AM
Cavan disciplinary chiefs have banned Ballinagh's senior team for six months following an assault on a referee.

The club are expected to appeal the suspension but, if it stands, they will not be able to participate in the 2008 Cavan senior championship or league.

A spectator at the game against Killygarry, alleged to have struck referee Gerry Sheridan as he left the pitch, has been banned for 96 weeks.

Three players have received suspensions ranging from four to 12 weeks.

Another supporter has been banned for 24 weeks, and a third for eight weeks.

The Ballinagh club had already been on a warning after previous incidents.

Ballinagh, the reigning Ulster Intermediate Club champions, hosted the Divison One game aganst Killygarry on Wednesday 18 June.

The clubs had been scheduled to meet again in the first round of the county championship.

"Ballinagh were already on a warning from the Fingal Ravens intermediate semi-final," said Cavan PRO Mark Gillick.

"They were dealt with by Croke Park for that. In a way, this is kind of a repeat incident which is why the suspensions were so serious."  :o :o ::)

GAA Discussion / Dillema for Donegal's Cassidy
May 03, 2008, 07:43:55 PM
Donegal captain Kevin Cassidy could be left to rue the Ulster Council's decision to bring forward the county's potential Ulster SFC semi-final against either Fermanagh or Monaghan by 24 hours to June 21 to facilitate live TV coverage.

That's because the date clashes with his wedding in his native Gweedore. The reception takes place in Letterkenny and all of the Donegal panel are among the 400-plus guests invited.

In the event of Donegal defeating newly-crowned NFL champions Derry in the first round, Cassidy will be expected to play an Ulster semi-final in Omagh on his wedding day. The former All-Star broke the news to his fiancé Sarah Gallagher on Friday, but he admits there is little he can do about it until after the Derry game at Ballybofey on June 1.

"You'd be under a wee bit of pressure but we'll deal with that when we get there," he said.

"I have put it to the back of my mind. There is no point thinking about it yet, just train hard and if we are lucky enough to get past Derry we will think about it that evening.

"It is pretty awkward. If we get there we will suss our options out then. We are married at 12 noon in Gweedore and we just need to see with times.

"If we are playing the game, she might let me slip away for an hour or two."

Fermanagh's Liam McBarron found himself in a similar predicament in 2004 when he took a helicopter from his wedding to a qualifier game against Cork at Croke Park.

GAA Discussion / New GAA Logo
March 12, 2008, 09:07:06 PM
The GAA is shortly to introduce a new logo as part of its major re-branding plans for the Association.

A major consultancy firm has been hired to carry out a survey among gaels and non-gaels alike from all walks of life to discuss the GAA's brand and image.

When officially launched the new image will be highly visible at every county ground in the country.

It is understood that the final agreed image will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
