General discussion / Gaa after dinner speakers
March 11, 2008, 10:50:44 AM
Can anyone reccommend a gaa related after dinner speaker.  It's for a big private party in County Armagh.  I was thinking that someone like Paidi O' Se or Joe Brolly would be good craic.  Is there a after dinner circuit for GAA personalities.?
I really don't know how to go about organising this!

Has there ever been a more incompetent minister in the history of Irish or British Politics?

General discussion / Anti-freeze
January 02, 2008, 03:06:34 PM
Lads I need your help, because I'm too embarrased to ask anyone I know!!

In the past I have always put antifreeze where the water coolant/water goes i.e - the plastic see through part.  Is this the radiator?, if not do I need to put some in the radiator?

Serious answers now lads, i don't want to wreck the yoke!

General discussion / Shane MacGowan - New Music
November 16, 2007, 10:14:26 AM
Ok, it's not the album that we have been waiting for since 1997, but I heard that Shane & the cast of celebrities go wild recorded the old pogues song DOWN IN THE GROUND WHERE THE DEAD MEN GO.  It is for People in Need.  Shane's partner Victoria was in celebrities go wild, so that is the connection.

I'm a wee bit concerned at the presence of 8 z-listers, but they have picked an unusual song.  It's not a well known song, but very typical of the early Pogues sound.  Anything from Shane is worth buying, particularly if it is for a good cause.  If anyone hears any more info, such as release dates can they post it here.

By the way the great man turns 50 on Christmas day.  You couldn't kill him with a hammer!!!

GAA Discussion / Youtube - Tyrone
November 13, 2007, 03:57:34 PM
I saw a clip on youtube which was basicly a short history of Tyrone GAA.  It started with clips from the 1986 final, then 95, then 2003 and 2005.  I tried looking for it again and can't find the bloody thing.
I have searched under Tyrone GAA, Tyrone 1986, Tyrone Kerry, Tyrone Armagh, you name it, I have searched for it, but dammit the thing has disapeared.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of this clip?  It is the 1986 part I am interested in seeing again.

General discussion / Irish League Attendances

Can someone please help me out here, I really don't want to have to go to a match to find out.
What would the average saturday afternoon attendances be for NI clubs, such as Newry Town etc?

General discussion / Ronnie Drew
October 26, 2007, 02:23:45 PM
Seen a great programme on RTE2 last night.  Gerry Ryan was interviewing Ronnie Drew about his life and career.  But the bould Ronnie had no hair and no beard.  I missed the start so didn't see if Gerry asked him about this.  Is he not well?  He's a rare looking yoke without the beard.

Heard the bould Sawdoctors on 2fm last night and it got me thinking about a Top Ten of Culchie Classics.
I'm talking about songs like,

The Rare Ould Mountan Dew
Hills of Donegal
N17
Galway Girl
I Useta Love Her

What are your top Culchie Classic songs?

GAA Discussion / Greatest GAA Songs
August 14, 2007, 05:24:57 PM
I'm not talking about 'Star of the County Down' or 'Galway Bay' here, but the songs released when teams get to the All Ireland Finals.  A great one was Yabba Dabba Dooley, for Offaly in the 90's.  Another good one was the 'Dancing In the Street'(Kilkenny Version).

Any other favourites out there?

Hurling Discussion / An Poc Fada
August 03, 2007, 08:58:40 PM
Lads the All-Ireland Poc Fada is on at Annaverna Mountain, Ravensdale, Co Louth tomorrow.  If you haven't been to this and it is within reasonable distance(motorway all the way there from Dublin), then you really should go.  I am going tomorrow for the first time in 10 years, as I have been living abroad.

For those of you that don't know, the idea was based on the legend of Setanta who ran from Dun Dealgan to Emhain Macha and hurled the whole way there without the ball, touching the ground.  He went over the Cooley mountains on his way. (He should have turned left at the Lisdoo).  Therefore the modern day hurlers have to hurl there way around a 5km mountain course in the least number of shots.

Davy Fitgerald, Eoin Kelly, Brendan Cummins and many other famous hurlers will be taking part.  A great day out is guaranteed, and it is a bit of exercise to boot.

Not sure what time it starts at!

GAA Discussion / Soccer more popular than Gaelic
June 21, 2007, 01:54:34 PM
I know that in large parts of North Donegal, soccer is more popular than gaelic.  Is this unique for a RURAL area or does this happen anywhere else in the country
