GAA Discussion / The Sunday Game 2010
May 16, 2010, 01:34:25 PM
10 minutes into it and nothing but doom and gloom and Spillane bemoaning the state of gaelic football.
Congrats to everyone involved.
FFS.
We're going to be listening to this shite all year.

GAA Discussion / What good is this to Cork?
April 25, 2010, 05:30:41 PM
Would they not have been better off actually trying to win their last league game against Mayo instead of stopping playing when they heard Dublin were hammering Tyrone?
They would have been playing Dublin today and we would have had a decent crowd and quite possibly a decent game.
It's like watching a training session.
Terrible anti-climax after 3 good games this weekend.

GAA Discussion / Pembroke Communications survey
November 15, 2009, 05:19:28 PM
Can anyone tell me why a survey of dubious methodological quality, on the popularity of different sports in Ireland, by a PR company, is receiving such coverage in our national newspapers?
I was quite disappointed to see that Colm O'Rourke had bought into the nonsense today.
I'd say we can expect plenty more silly season "The GAA is in trouble" style articles before the year is out.
Who commissioned this survey as a matter of interest?

GAA Discussion / Peter McKenna

I honestly think that his comments about KK fans dumping their rubbish on the pitch were extremely ill-advised.
His statement that fencing is now inevitable also shows poor judgement on his part.
He is creating a very adversarial atmosphere in the run up to the biggest sporting event of the year.
Him and Cooney would want to get it into their heads sooner rather than later that the fans WILL go on the pitch after the football final.
I'd wager people that normally wouldn't invade the pitch will now go out of their way to do so just to let the powers that be in Croke Park know who's boss.
I had good time for him up until this debacle.
Had a listen to Liveline there earlier and 3/4 of the people that phoned in were in favour of keeping things the way they were.

After Westmeaths horror performance today, lets hope we don't see this ridiculous shite again.
EVER!
It's like that episode of Fr Ted when Fr Noel Furlong and the gang are doing riverdance inside the caravan.

Meath v Mayo 1996!
It's a nice evening, so I'd suggest all Mayo folk go out and sit in the garden and don't be torturing themselves watching this.  :o

Are you more or less optimistic about your chances than you were before the league campaign started?
I'm actually a good bit more optimistic about our chances, but then again, I was starting from a pretty low base.

I think we need to go big for this one.
Joe Sheridan at FF, maybe Shane O'Rourke in the FF line if fit.
Kildare got a lot of joy out of the early high ball into the square.
We've done it before, we can do it again.

GAA Discussion / Meath v Tyrone 1996
March 12, 2009, 10:59:14 AM
Lads, I've watched this clip over and over.
A number of points, for the Canavan incident Mark Reilly only has eyes for the ball, JMac mistimes his shoulder and Peters ankle gets caught between the two. Peter played on and even scored again after this incident.
Barry Callaghan was a great man to take a score, as was Brenny Reilly who scores an unbelievable point in this game from the Hogan side.
GG's pace back in those days was unreal. None of the Tyrone defenders could touch him. Amazing to see how much space he had in the 2nd half.
I thought Meath forged ahead much sooner in the game than they actually did. They were still behind after scoring the goal.
Tyrone badly beaten at midfield.
Adrian Cush was a savage footballer, and Cavlan had a blinder in this game.
Not putting up the link to start rows, I'd just be interested in peoples observations on the game itself.

When was this revamped?
Nearly sure I had a look at it a couple of days ago and it was the old version.
Seems easier to navigate your way around it now anyway.

GAA Discussion / GPA/Energise Ambassador
January 17, 2009, 11:17:16 PM
Lads, is this for real? Dunno if it's been discussed already in another thread but I just saw it on anfearrua.

GPA/Energise Sport Student Ambassador Programme

Due to the overwhelming demand for third level scholarships and the increase in dual benefit for students over the past number of years through GPA and college assistance, this year's GPA/Energise Sport Scholarship Programme will be confined to students who promote the Energise Sport brand in a number of ways.

Grant awards under the new GPA/Energise Sport Student Ambassador Programme will range from €500 ‐. €1,500, depending on the level of promotional activity conducted by the student in the lead up to the presentation of the awards in February 2009.

Grants may be provided in two separate payments i.e. an initial award for work carried out and a later award to be paid on the completion of further promotional work for Energise Sport.

The areas to demonstrate activity should be as follows:

* College campus. shops, dispensing machines. college squads etc.
* Students' own GAA clubs and local retail and licensed premises.
* PR opportunities: confirmation of availability for potential upcoming photo calls etc.

Criteria for funding:

To be eligible for funding the student must carry out the following:

1. Approach Students' bar facilities in college about stocking Energise Sport, Energise Energy & Energise Edge
2. If Energise brand is stocked, enquire about doing so on an exclusive basis
3. Approach college Sports Centre and carry out similar enquires in regard to Energise Sport
4. Approach home club bar and local retailers and carry out similar enquiries in regard to Energise brand
5. Use own initiative to carry out promotional work on behalf of Energise Sport.
6. Be available for PR photography on receipt of funding.

If a player has recorded and can clearly demonstrate that his efforts have assisted with sales of Energise Sport, through club, locality and college then he will be deemed a suitable candidate.

Significant weight will be given to applications of those students who have encouraged key accounts (clubs, pubs or retail outlets) to agree to an Energise brand exclusive arrangement. (Account holder incentives available. Contact Christine Keoghane, at Britvic, on 00353 876697332 for any assistance.)

Players who have received funding/grants from other sources will be considered, this is no longer a restriction in applying for the GPA/Energise Scholarship Programme.

All other criteria apply as normal (see below). The player will be required to liaise with the Energise Rep in Britvic Ireland to confirm activity undertaken and can be called for interview.

All Energise activity conducted must be documented and submitted on A4 page(s) with
CV and application form prior to 5pm Friday February 6th 2009.
