The battle of an orange is in the peeling. Once you get a good peel going its great. Unless you have a rag nail. With a pear its different - you can bite it and get it all down your chin, or you can cut it and go through 3 or 4 napkins.

Depends how you pronounce it. Tom (ah) toe is a fruit. Tom (aay) toe is a vegetable. One thing is for certain - its not a fecking legume.

The ideal pear has to be nice and moist with the juice running out if it!!

A pear is the only thing Ill eat when its a little over ripe. Everything else must be bang on the money.

Now - red or green apples?

It has to be green apples all the way!

Not a big melon fan - although we eat alot of watermelon. Wouldnt know much about them - the wife asked me to bring home some watermelon last week and she went crazy at the two I picked. They were too hollow sounding she said. Made me take them back. So I brought her a bag of doritos.

Get off the fence gold - you either like em or you dont! How could you not like a pear. Its funny - I hate the artificial "flavours" of the fruits I like. Apple, pear and banana flavours are not good.

Theres a woman works here makes this thing called a dump cake. Sounds bad - but it isnt. She basically 'dumps" a bunch of stuff in the pan and bakes it. Great combination of ruhbarb and pineapple. Smashing.

Its a great combo - no doubt. Never understood the mind of a person that doesnt like pineapple. Mango is a good shout treas - but its a damn messy handlin unless you buy the pre sliced ones.

Pineapple could eat it all the time!

Saw this weird looking thing in Asda one day decided to get it and try it...Dragonfruit...its like a pink and spiky looking thing...cut it open and it looks like frogspawn, doesn't have a taste and all you can feel is eating seeds.  Yuk.  Anyone actually like the thing?

Passion Fruit is another weird one, not sure if I like it or not it was quite sour the time I tried it, but it's nice in smoothies!

One of my friends lived in Thailand for a few years and she brought back lychees with her and made me try some...it was a while ago now so I can't quite remember what they were like, but I'd say if I thought they were horrible I probably would have remembered!

Anyone else any exotic fruits to recommend/advise against??

This is one to avoid - father in law made me try it once. We were eating it outside and still the smell was revolting. Durian its called.

While Wallace cautions that "the smell of the ripe fruit is certainly at first disagreeable", later descriptions by westerners are more graphic. British novelist Anthony Burgess writes that eating durian is "like eating sweet raspberry blancmange in the lavatory."[16] Chef Andrew Zimmern compares the taste to "completely rotten, mushy onions."[17] Anthony Bourdain, while a lover of durian, relates his encounter with the fruit as thus: "Its taste can only be described as...indescribable, something you will either love or despise. ...Your breath will smell as if you'd been French-kissing your dead grandmother."[18] Travel and food writer Richard Sterling says:

" ... its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away. Despite its great local popularity, the raw fruit is forbidden from some establishments such as hotels, subways and airports, including public transportation in Southeast Asia.[19] "

Hydrogen sulphide, one of the chemical compounds that may be responsible for the characteristic odour of durianOther comparisons have been made with the civet, sewage, stale vomit, skunk spray and used surgical swabs.[20] The wide range of descriptions for the odour of durian may have a great deal to do with the variability of durian odour itself.
