Its not on till tonight isnt it?

Straight up, and as a proud Dub, I have to say Alan Brogan doesnt deserve one this year, his brother was better than him this year.

IF they got them, I would say...

Cluxton, bar one bad pass (at the worst possible time), I cant fault. Murphy fecked up a few kick ups V Tyrone, Quirke made a balls of the final.
Cahill, 100% deserving.
Whelan, it was a cert for O'Se and 50/50 between Whelan and Murphy IMO, so fair enough.
Brogan, no. Was good, but not all star good.

not bad if true
Would not think Cooper or Brogan deserve one, would also question Dara O'se and Whelan

He wasnt great last night, solid in the second half, but the Brigids formation was bewildering
they seemed to swap positions more times than a North Longford swingers night !

There's no way losing semi-finalists Dublin get 4 while losing finalists Cork only get one although then again Limerick got two less than Waterford in the hurling.

We had this confirmed on the derry thread by a usually reliable source.
6 Kerry,
4 Dubs
2 Derry
1 Cork
1 Monaghan
1 Cork

I don't think Cork can have too many arguments, although Canty's award was probably like Muldoon's for Derry 3 years ago - a long consistent service award.  That aside, there should be plenty of complaints from elsewhere - especially Conor Gormley.

Think the original message is a windup alright but can't agree with the above.

Valid arguments for all of them to be included as outlined by His holiness earlier on.  As he said there is no way Alan Brogan should get one but in my mind Cahill was Dublin's best player this year

Barry Cahill definitely deserves to be there, he had an excellent season from start to finish, I'd be very surprised if thats the actual 15 but I'd also be very surprised if Cahill doesnt get one tonight.

Regarding Cork, they only deserve to get 1...

The Ulster Champs get none, and two teams who were beaten twice and progressed no further than Tyrone in the Championship get 3...   not without precedent where All-Stars are concerned so such fcuked up awards may indeed be accurate  :(
Title: Re: Dubs get 4!
Post by: magpie seanie on October 19, 2007, 12:15:29 PM
Firstly I'm pretty confident that that is the actual team.

On Cahill - he was Dublin's best back granted (other 5 weren't that great were they?). That's not enough to get an allstar though. The likes of Killian Young, Damian Freeman and Conor Gormley had better years and that's just off the top of my head.

Cluxton had a solid but unspectacular year until his monumental clusterfuck against Kerry. That mistake alone should have ruled him out of the equation. A travesty for the Meath goalie.
Title: Re: Dubs get 4!
Post by: blanketattack on October 19, 2007, 12:15:35 PM
Killian Young was consistently Kerry's best half-back all year long. Definitely deserved one. I know he'll still get young player of the year, but an All-Star and YPOTY aren't mutually exclusive are they?

Any semblance of respect that these awards once had totally evaporated years ago when Peter Canavan was given an award at chf instead of Brain McGuigan.

For what it's worth, IMNSHO, full back and full forward lines were always three from four and Gormley is extremely unlucky to miss out.
Half back line was predictable as was D O'Se. Any of Cavanagh, Murphy & Doherty has justifiable claims ahead of Whelan.

O'Sullivan was a shoe-in, but Moyles should have been ahead of Bray and A Brogan's is a weak one.

Any of the three keepers would have been an acceptable choice.

The All-Stars are no longer a worthwhile scheme in rewarding footballers, they are simply an exercise in horse trading.

Yeah, agree about Murphy - he was the best keeper this year, CLuxton did well against Derry, but the finishes left a bit to be desired too.  Not much wrong with the forwards though (well, Brogan is a bit contentious).

For what it is worth I think the GPA awards has now more credibility. At least it is chosen by the actual players themselves ...

Ulster and Connaght champions with no awards shows how irrelevant winning a provincial title is to the selectors. It is what you do in Croke park from AI 1/4 final onwards that matters to them.

The selectors probably see more games than the players, there's always going to be controversy and imo the selectors seem to put a lot of value on consistency over a number of years rather than form in this season.

You're joking right Bogball? Enda scored  3-24 that year including aruguably the goal of the year. He was fifth top scorer in Ireland and scoring isn't the main point of his game. His play-making is his main part and just how many scores did he make for Paddy Bradley that year? A lot thats the answer.

I thought Enda was absolutely unreal that year and if he hadn't of gotten an All-Star it would have been an absolute disgrace.

No, if any Derry player deserved an All Star that year it was Paddy imo, Enda deserved one in 2001 but was overlooked.  I don't know if Paddy deserved an All Star this year, but he did in '04, Enda came good mid-summer that year, prior to that Paddy had dragged the team along all year on his own.

If that is the team...then the only real issue I have with it is Whelan....he was outplayed and outclassed in the Derry and Kerry matches.
And he only played in spells against Meath. I just dont get why he's so highly rated when there are at least half a dozen better midfielders in the country.

And of course, congrats to Paddy B and McCloy.

Jesus christ, only for his domination of O'Se we would never have got that close to Kerry.

Have to admit it is absolutely hilarious reading some of these postings here...

So far we have had -
Cluxton isn't a very good keeper,
Dublin defenders are poor
Whelan is poor
Dublin forwards are poor...

How on earth did we possibly manage to beat Meath, Laois, Derry etc and run Kerry very close I don't know.....must have been all those teams played really badly against us....

Cluxton made 1 mistake all year and yet it still took a good Kerry move to score a point......name me 1 other keeper who hasn't made a mistake to concede a score????
Dublins defence is very poor and yet we only lost 1 game by 2 points against Kerry who thrashed Cork in final and scored more against Cork
Whelan is a poor midfielder - well he beat Crawford in first Meath match, Ward in 2nd Meath match, was good in Leinster semi-final, Won good possession against Laois, Won a lot of ball against Derry when we went from 4 points down to 8 points up during the middle of hte match...fair enough tired at the end as injured and did very well against Kerry....Murphy remember got destroyed in the final and Cavanagh played most of his football at wing forward....
Brogan didn't have his best year but scored an avg of 3 points from play in each game, caused Higgins/Lockhart/O'Se problems also...but probably wouldn't have been in my All-Star team...
Title: Re: Dubs get 4!

In my somewhat cynical opinion all-stars are awarded based on your media-friendly quotient.. Gary McQuaid for Monaghan should get one I reckon, but he won't, cause he's not that well known yet by the media! He was the most consistent player for Monaghan this year. Now I don't take objection to players not receiving an all-star if they picked up yellow cards in games or had to be moved off a player to avoid being sent off but basing them on how well a player is known by the media devalues the accolade. This is not specific to Monaghan and applies to all counties before anyone thinks it's sour grapes syndrome...

Any thoughts?

Half a dozen midfielders in the country better than Whelan...who's the 6??
Whelan destroyed Derry in the first half and then Doherty came out and dominated the second half...they both had their periods of dominance that day, was very impressed with Doherty that day but didn't see enough of him to know if he warrants an All - Star.

One midfielder I did see being outplayed and outclassed was Dara O'Se against Monaghan though...and he wasnt great against Dublin either...Shane Scanlon was far better

Dont think he deserves the All-Star

Would have to agree with GMS that Gary Mc Quaid deserved an award (altough knew due to lack of media hype knew that he would not get one).He was one of the most consistent players in the championship.
As regards the midfield you could make a case for any two out of four (O Se,Whelan,Murphy or Doherty).I thought they all had their moments altough they all had some poor periods. Have to say i cant believe that most people have o Se as a certainty. Was far from his best year as he was at best very average against Monaghan and Dublin.
Would also say that alot of people are very sore on Brogan.Any man who scores on average three points from play considering he is normally marked by the oppositions best man marker has to be in with a strong shout for an award.

Dublin imo deserved 3 All Stars, Whelo,Stephen Cluxton and Barry Cahill. Didn't think that Alan had a great season by his own high standards, but to say his inclusion is a joke is a bit silly. His scoring avge from play was good.
For the barstool pundits who seem to dominate this forum I would like to remind you that the team is picked on an individual basis and not on a "how far did his team go in the championship" basis.
Waterford got a deserved 5 places on the hurling team (I know that they won the lgue also) and they were well beaten by a team who got in turn hammered in the final. Howls of outrage, I think not.

I fear that the hatred alot of people bear towards to  the Dublin football team will fuel another 7 thread pages on this topic.

On a personal level am delighted that the selectors didn't pander to the mobs by denying Whelo a long overdue 2nd allstar, having lost out twice in recent years.

If you are looking for controversy I would point you to Canty's selection at corner back...

For the barstool pundits who seem to dominate this forum I would like to remind you that the team is picked on an individual basis and not on a "how far did his team go in the championship" basis.

Conor Gormley = no award = joke awards (FFS he was pre-eminent throughout, never bested by anyone!). Though I take your point, and Cluxton on account of his absolute howler against Kerry did not deserve one, arguably he actually LOST Dublin that game. Not an anti-Dub bias, just looking for some objectivity in the whole affair, and it stinks to high heaven.

Well considering it's never happened before - it is pretty big news

FóSB, the allstar awards have been for many years open to question. Ever since imo Brian Whelehan was omitted in the 1990s and even later since Canavan got the silliest award some years ago etc etc.
I attribute it personally to the selectors being extended to tv pundits, tabloid (read soccer) journalists etc. It was usually spot on years ago when the likes of Paddy Downey, Seán Óg etc were picking the team. Backdoor to be fair has made it somewhat harder I have to admit.

Just disappointed that any such criticism of the scheme will be swamped by anti Dublin hysteria. IMO the 4 Dublin allstars were at the very least "justified" and not the "off the wall" selections that many agenda driven posters will argue.

Fair enough Canalman, I've said my piece I'll lay off now. Amateur players after all, and should't be begrudged whatever sporting gongs and bling comes their way, sometimes deserved other times not so deserved, and it has ever been thus, as you rightly say.

Fair comment. I feel that the selection panel got it wrong.

No gripe with the Players.

But in all fairness Whelan should only accept half of the award as he never played a full game the whole year  ;)

Tyrone weren't really invloved this year - 1/4 final, same as Derry, Monaghan, Sligo - but this all star team is a complete joke - 4 awards for Dublin ! No way - Cluxton - good keeper who lost Dublin the semi final - No Conor Gormley - a joke !

But wait for it - this MUST be the biggest joke of ALL - Graham Canty gets one at corner back - in the AI final he was roasted by Kieran Donaghy and Cooper - no award for Donaghy but an award for Canty ??????????? JOKE !

Rewind to the day before the All-Ireland Final. Cork v Kerry. Cork had just stuffed Sligo and Meath in the quarters and semis in Croke Park. Kerry had scraped by Monaghan and crapped themselves for a good 20 mins in the first half v Dublin. If you'd been asked to pick the All-Stars then, you'd have at least 4 Cork men. Amazing the importance the one game, an All-Ireland final, has on the selectors. Who did the Dubs beat anyway? Didn't they scrape past Meath after a replay, a Meath team that Cork swatted aside with ease. They beat Offaly who went straight into the Tommy Murphy Cup and lost immediately to Wicklow. They beat Laois who went out next game to Derry. They beat Derry.

Absolute joke.

Ah well you have to laugh really. That's why I never pay any attention to the All-Stars.

There's been years when teams have rampaged to All-Ireland final wins and they've just got 4 or 5 All-Stars. Dubs didn't even get to a final. Go figure.

My gripes and comments:

1. Paddy Bradley's long-running campaign for an All Star is at an end. Other years he deserved one. Not this year in my opinion. Where did he really set a mark other than against Dublin? Donnacha Walsh of Cork should have been there. Consistently good throughout the year.

2. Dublin deserved three of the four they got. Cannot understand Alan Brogan's selection. His brother should even have come ahead of him.

3. The Meath goalie is a good shot-stopper but not confident under the dropping ball. Cluxton deserves it. He is the best in the country.

4. The whole thing is a farce.

the way i see it with the all stars is that if you have a bad game further on in the competion for e.g the ai final your chance of an All star is gone for e.g look at mayo last year only got 2 Awards and Cork this year with 1.This year Dublin get knocked out in the semi and they get 4.I wouldn't agree with Brogan or Bray or cahill getting their awards, anyway no 2 people are going to agree on the same 15.

Cluxton is the best keeper in the country....made one single mistake in miskicking a pass and thats it....
Cahill was outstanding for Dublin this year...constantly won his battles at half back and never in trouble in any of his matches
Whelan - was possibly the best midfielder this year but definitely in the top 2
Brogan - still scored an avg of 3.5 points from play despite being marked by the best players including 3 points against the player of the year in Marc O'Se...

Gormley should probably have been in ahead of Canty...

I can only go as far back as 2001 but this is the first year I can recall that the top scorer didn't get one.

But Masters racked up the vast majority of his tally against very weak Munster sides. Compare this with T Freeman (second highest scorer) who's opposition included Down, Derry, Tyrone, Donegal and Kerry - all bar one being Division 1 teams.

Also, people do seem to have a problem with the fact that Tyrone/Sligo/Donegal got none, despite the fact that they won trophies this year. In my opinion, yes, Derry and Monaghan did each lose 2 games this year, but neither were totally outplayed in any of their games, were they?
Donegal may have won the league, but they were totally wiped out by Tyrone and Monaghan in the championship.

Sligo, not to take away their great achievement, but they only had to beat New York and Roscommon to get to the provincial final. They won that, but then were a disaster against Cork.

As for Tyrone, maybe they did deserve one, but again this year, they were a long way away from 2003 and 2005. In my opinion, it would have been right to have had Cavanagh nominated at half forward and give him the award for there. The Ulster final win was largely down to him.

Lads it time to realise that an All star is not worth two balls of blue, it is selected by people that I would not let take our club minors never mind a intercounty senior team. E O'hara of the Irish News is a classic example of the Tom Fools in the secesion making process. The fact that Dublin have the amount of All stars that they have accumulated and only having won ONE All ireland since 1983 further reinforces my point. For Eamon O'Hara not to have gotten an All Star for Sligo, their first Title in 30 years beggars belief. I could go on about Gromely, easily the best back in ireland. I would love to see a poll done with all intercounty managers to see what back they would love to have if able to select any defender in Irelandon on their team. I am certain Gromely would feature in the first 3. A dublin team that failed again to even reach the All ireland final to have gotten 4 All stars is agian further evidence of how flawed the entire selection proces is.....its a pity that what should be one of the best individiual awards in a players career is now seen by most knowledable abservers as a side show.

Max
Is the All-Star for individual performances or is it for team performances??? If it is for individual then why wouldn't Dublin have gotten All-Stars???
So if you get to the All-Ireland by beating Limerick/Tipperary/Sligo/Meath is deserving of more All-Stars than beating Meath, Offaly, Laois, Derry and running Kerry really close??? Why shouldn't Dublin have got 4 All-Stars.....In fact the All-Star Cork got they shouldn't have got...
So if Gormely is the best back in Ireland you are arguing that M O'Se shouldn't have got player of hte year????

For the barstool pundits who seem to dominate this forum I would like to remind you that the team is picked on an individual basis and not on a "how far did his team go in the championship" basis.

If you are looking for controversy I would point you to Canty's selection at corner back...

You are actually wrong in your first point canalman. A number of the current selectors themselves admitted that they place a huge amount of emphasis on 'how far a team goes in the championship' when making their selections! I don't believe that this is right myself, but who am I compared to the mighty GAA media pundits!!

Your second point is spot on. When coming on to the board today I was surprised that the main debate is about the fact that the Dubs got 4 awards. Overall I think this wasn't the worst of team selections, we all have our opinions and would have done certain things differently. I would have had Moyles in the team as I feel he was actually the most important player for Meath this year, which was emphasised by the teams capitulation against Cork. This is just my opinion, also Declan O'Sullivan must have been odds on for player of the year prior to the final, he didn't have a bad final, so why didn't he win the gong! I will also give credit to the selection committee for resisting the temptation of putting Donaghy in. These are all just examples and opinions.

What the major talking point should be is the selection of Canty. For my mind there were three players to fill two spots (Mc Cloy, Fay & Gormley) and I would have had it very close between them. It is a total disgrace, just so as they have a Cork man on the team they have included Canty, when he clearly didn't deserve it. Over the years I have been a fan of him as a player but this year he didn't come close to deserving an all star. Just some of the reasons:
- He was completely dominated by Shane Lennon in the game against Louth (who I hear a lot of say) Who, exactly! Shane is a decent intercounty footballer, but no world beater. He has no pace and is the type of player that Canty should have been well able to handle. Fair play to Shane, he led him a merry dance.
- He had a good game against a Meath team that became totally rudderless and devoid of all imagination or motivation. Basically, a team playing very poorly
- He started off well in the first 20 minutes of the AI and never got a sniff of it after that.
This IMHO is far short of All Star quality, particularly when he was up against the likes of Fay & Gormley

Cluxton made 1 mistake and thats all....good kickouts, good saves and good distribution....name me a keeper who didn't make a single mistake all year??????
Canty shouldn't have been picked and Gormley should have you made 1 valid point at least...
Name me a midfielder who has played brilliantly for 70 mins  then.....Whelan dominated Nigel Crawford, Mark Ward, McNamee, more than held his own against Clancy, dominated for 40 mins v's Derry and was very good against Kerry...Murphy played Tipperary/Limerick/Kerry/Louth/Sligo/Meath/Kerry....not exactly top opposition and was destroyed in the final....
Brogan scored an average of 3.5 points from play against the top defenders in each team like Mark O'Shea, Joe Higgins, Lockhart etc....name 6 forwards who scored more from play?????
Who else would you have had full forward ahead of Bradley??????

Have to admit Bensars your whinging against Dublin sounds like serious jealousy......anything to do with another dismal performance by Ulster teams/players again????

If that is the team...then the only real issue I have with it is Whelan....he was outplayed and outclassed in the Derry and Kerry matches.
And he only played in spells against Meath. I just dont get why he's so highly rated when there are at least half a dozen better midfielders in the country.

Dont think tha panel saw too many derry games-  f doherty most consistent player for derry all year - id put my money on him & cavanagh beating the all-star selection any day

Bensars is nothing more than a whinger. cluxton made one mistake all year. Whelan doesn't need to aplogise to anyone for a well deserved allstar particularly not to a  whinger like Bensars. Bensars would probably have himself ahead of Bradley-that's the sort of self delusion that is par for the course around here.

a discussion board is full of opinions. Just because its against your train of thought does not mean it should be dismissed.

i notice you failed to comment on Brogans all star?

In regards to Paddy Bradley you will also see that i stated he merited an all star in previous years, not this year IN MY OPINION.

As you will see from previous posts my complaint is against the selection panel and its composition.

In regards to self indulsion ::) and having myself in front of paddy bradley, what can i say ,nothing more than a crazy rant from yourself. i think  remark says  more about your self persecution complex than any grandures of self indulsion i may have.

I would also like to point your attention to the numerous other posters that seem to hold a very similar view to my own. Are they all wrong? Are they all whingers? Unlike the media that you may be used too, outside dublin we are prepared to make judements based on the information we see, not the pro dublin propoganda that fills the national papers

As usual, a Meathman has to stick up for the poor oul Dubs. Would the people giving out about Whelan getting an Allstar like to tell us WHO should have got it in his place? (We'll conveniently ignore the fact that Dara Ó Sé only got the other midfield spot so the selection committee could say "Wow look, 3 brothers got Allstars in the same year!")

bollox bensars - as usual the thrust of your rant is directed against the Dubs with a few add-ons to dress it up- spare the patronising for someone else. In keeping with the general derision towards the Dublin football team on this board. It' becoming quite childish at this stage. But its inherently  inkeeping with the siege mentality in ulster towards the dublin football team in general. So it's not surprising.

I have to say i find this all very amusing . The outrage is highly amusing , how dare they give the Dub's 4 shocking!

At the end of the day Cluxton is the best keeper in the country by miles ,made one mistake all year and did a lot to keep the Dubs in a few games , their can be few arguments against Cahill, Whelan had a great season , I though O se was a cert and it was a came down to  Whelan V Murphy , Murphy was non existent in the final against Kerry so the balance was swung towards Whelan. Brogan is the only one i would say was lucky to get one .

One or two good catches and an assault here and there does not make you an all star.

I don't agree Cluxton is best keeper in the country i think Brendan Murphy the Meath goalie is a better shot stopper, and kept Meath in a lot of games this year, especially in the drawn game v Dublin.
Have no problem at all with Whelan or Cahill getting awards and i think everyone agrees A Brogan was lucky to get one

If this is how you boys react to Dublin getting for All Stars it will be just classic reading when we finally get Sam some day. I was listening to a Whelan interview after the All Stars and he seemed more cut up about this years defeat and focusing on the Louth game next year than the award itself! Sounds like Dublin wont be taking the League serious again.

I'm sure they will want to get out of D2 but not the main objective, if we can find some new young talent during the league it will be a success.

Funny how 3 of the 4 Semi Finalists are in D2 this year. D1 is looking tough anyway, Kildare on a good day can score 1-6 ::)

Its amazing the uproar on here for the Dubs getting 4 awards.
According to the recent poll on here, Dublin were voted far and away the second best team in the country.
If its not about teams but rather individuals, why all the whingeing about them getting four while only making the semis? Surely then its not about how far the team goes rather how well the individual plays while his team is there?

Pints, your comments about Whelan "One or two good catches and an assault here and there does not make you an all star" are just childish.
He did a hell of a lot more than one or two good catches this year, and exactly which "assaults" are you referring to?
Unless you are suggesting incidents in previous years should influence this years award I cant think of anything.

This fact that this thread is called "Dubs get 4!" as opposed to "All Star Winners" or something not focusing on the Dubs says it all.
And ye keep reminding us the world doesnt revolve around the Dubs, yet ye just cant stop talking about them!  ::)

The media is based in Dublin, Dulblin is the capital, its always been this way, and always will, get over it, its a boring argument at this stage.
It probably does Dublin more harm than good to have all the media attention anyway.

As per my last post, it was voted on THIS SITE by yourselves, NOT THE MEDIA that the Dubs were the second best team in the country.
Now if a newspaper journalist said that you would be giving out saying thats bullshit!

Now this thread is about the allstars, not the papers, so I dont get your point, unless you are saying Dublin got the awards just for being Dublin players as opposed to their performances on the field??

No one claimed it did . ::). HHN just said that when asked to vote the members of this board said the Dub's are 2nd best and that is a very good indication that the majority on this board believe Dublin are the second best team.

So it's strange to see so much moaning  about 4 All-Stars given the result of the poll

I would think this board and the straw poll would be a good indicator's of the GAA public's opinion, maybe not?

Wouldn't surprise me Seanie. Anyone else think that Shanahan made a tit of himself at the awards when he displayed a lack of articulation when trying to have a pop at the organisation that was recognising his performances during the year  ::)

In relation to the poll results, in terms of numbers who participated compared to the number of members on the board I would deem it representative of the board. Other elements that would make it representative would be:
- It was a topic that was active the week after the AI final when any member who is interested in GAA would have been on the board and had ample opportunity to cast their vote.
- As Gnevin pointed out, Dublin is definitely under represented on this board if anything, so it would be difficult to deem a bias in the results due to this.
Dublin were clearly deemed the 2nd best team in the country by this board (and for the record, I voted An Muinechain) so this topic of the Dubs getting 4 has gone over the top.

Am I the only one that thinks that the single most glaringly poor selection on the team was Canty, ahead of both Fay & Gormley??

Fair enough and point taken about the vote.
I dont think though that you could take the results of a poll on this board as a good indicator of the public's opinion.

By the way, I never intimated that Dublin shouldnt have got 4 all-stars, I think it's irrelevant the number of players from any team that gets an all-star. The award is meant to recognise that the indivuals given the award were best in that position in the country over the course of the year. My only issue was with Ciaran Whelan...I felt there were other more deserving midfielders. I have no issue with Dublin getting 4 or indeed 10...just about that particular award.

I wont even discuss that as I am biased.
However
While I think he is the best midfielder in the country
Daragh o'se did not have a great season.
I thought he broke even at best v Cork in the munster final, though he was poor v Dublin (ok he went off and was obv carrying an inj) but he never shone until the final - where he destroyed both Cork midfielders.
But to me, one outstanding display does not merit an All star.
Likewise Cooper - played well twice (albeit in high profile games).
Paddy Bradley, A Brogan also lucky to get All stars.

Can't actually see much wrong from the football selection though I feel Murphy (Cork) was very unlucky to miss out in midfield. If anything, he should have been selected here instead of Whelan, leaving Gormley/Fay to take the left corner spot ahead of Canty. Had Gormley got in, then that would have left Ulster with 4 all-stars....no ulster team even made the semi-finals ffs so that again was probably part of the reasoning to give Canty one. I also think Dublin were the 2nd best team and that the 4 awards is reflective of this.

TBrick

What other deserving midfielders????

Fergal Doherty
Scanlon
Murphy
And the tyronnies would argue Sean Cavanagh though I would only put him on a par with Whelan.

I haven't read through this thread so can someone tell me how dublin got 4 all-stars? Who are the all-star selectors and were they doing more drugs than a dub on Hill 16?

Yerra you'd be happy enough with 6 awards after winning an All Ireland and well done to Marc O'Se, Tomas O'Se, Aidan O'Mahony, Darragh O'Se, Declan O'Sullivan and Colm Cooper on their well deserved awards. Of the 6 Aidan O'Mahony was probably the only doubt, but he had a great Munster and AI Final and stood up to the Dubs when needed so there can be no argument.

Congratulations too to Marc O'Se for an outstanding year and winning the player of the year award. Is it a first for a corner back?
Dissapointed that Declan O'Sullivan did not win it but he is still in with a shout for the car and the GPA award and he has had the biggest award of all this year, lifting Sam Maguire AGAIN.

Well done too to Killian Young on winning the young player of ther year, he had an outstanding first year and was very unlucky to lose out on an actual award but they had to fit a jackeen in there somewhere I suppose, so not to worry Killian an All Ireland medal in your arse pocket is more important than any auld All Star award.

Diarmuid Murphy too was not far off an award either and it is a huge shame on the judges that Seamus Scanlon did not even get a nomination, the man had a towering first full season. Paul Galvin or Kieran Donaghy were not at their best like last year but the addition of another All Ireland medal will shorten their winter.

The O'Se brothers for Ard an Bothar back in West Kerry have set their own bit of history, it is an amazing achievement for one family who have given so much to Kerry football, but I would say the 20 All Ireland medals that they share with Paidi means more to them than anything else, hopefully Darragh will give it one more lash in 2008.

As for the other awards winners well done to all (even to the lonely langer and the media friendly Jackeens), these awards always have their controversies, but they are little consolation to not winning an AI medal..
