The yearly "Rian is off the panel" rumours have started again.

They were never going to knuckle down to retain Sam in 2025.
Yes Rian is off the panel at the minute.
Although I can see him coming back towards the end of the league and business end of the championship.
Let the lad do his thing and blow off a bit of steam, then reel him back in.
And it has no relation to the Miami incident as far as im aware. I think he was 'missing' a few saturday/sunday morning training sessions due to extra curricular activities.
Blow of abit of steam? He not do a spin in rehab [sorry injured last year). About time his older brother and a few older heads on the team rein him in abit, County careers are short enough these days. And he's too good a footballer to not instill abit of discipline in the lad.
He'll be back, wouldn't worry.

No,
Probably needs a break from all the chaos and demands that come with being a high profile player on an AI winning team.
Reading Anthony Molloy's book at the moment. He was completely burnt out by the circus that followed the 1992 win, although in fairness he was the captain and so subject to a bit more expectancy and demand from the Donegal public and diaspora.
Did Armagh get a phone call from Jarlath Burns telling them to drop him because he wasn't a good boy?

Sure whatever you don't know just make it up...stop speculating and posting whatever some other clown told you he done or is doing. Who cares, he's one player and whatever happens or whatever the reason for him being missing is his business and Armagh football will continue with or without him.
He's a great footballer but he's one man and if he's gone then it's an opportunity for another lad to step up and take his place, if RON comes back into the camp at a later date then great. Either way I don't really care that much, I used to get annoyed about Jamie Clarke and Armagh etc but maybe it's an age thing now where I don't get too bothered about who's off the panel and who's gone AWOL.

I see that assault was on one of the players girlfriends. Are these wags getting free trips abroad too? Another reason why I won't be giving any more money to the GAA. The thought of paying players holidays is bad enough but the girlfriends? Even if you just give money to your local club you are probably still funding holidays.

Alleged assault. The clubs were asked to part with £2k to assist with funding the holiday which thought was poor form from the Co Board.

I'd have no problem giving money towards a holiday. Some of those lads have slogged for a decade or more for very little reward and after the year we had last year a holiday is the least they deserve. WAG's shouldn't be going though imo.
The partners would deserve to be on these things too. They would have to sacrifice plenty particularly if there's kids involved. This kind of thing has been going on years too.
I wouldn't be in favour of clubs having to put in for it mind you. The county board should raise the funds.

Lets be honest. These players with full time jobs and full time training put a lot of pressure on the women folk at home. They couldnt do what they do for the county without them. Now I realise that there are scales to this support, from a young lad living at home with parents who has a girlfriend to the lads married with a rake of kids. For me I think the family support deserve a bit of recognition following a success like this and have no problem with that being applied across the panel.

Excellent point re scales. For a married man with kids (or anyone with kids) think about the birthdays, communions, confirmations, football games etc all missed while away training or playing matches. Some people forget during the league, and away game usually takes up the full weekend. For a league game on a sunday away to say Mayo, the players would be away from noon on the saturday, making their way down to Mayo for an overnight stay. And then not back up the road to late Sunday evening. Same as a saturday evening game down the country

Yeah good points there Lurganblue and Samuel. Listening to the older lads with kids like Forker/Paddy Burns/Grimley, the wives would be making big sacrifices too, but the 21 year old whos maybe only with the girl a few months won't be on the same level.
Should be players and management/backroom team only still imo. (Although maybe the women wouldn't let the lads away for a week in some cases lol)

We don't know of course. But because something happened does not mean that it was not consensual at the time, even if it seemed unwise the following day.

The point is that the accused party's supposed version, even if the truth, paints him as a horrible **** who shouldn't be on the panel.

I know you're not great at comprehension, or anything else really, but I figured even you would know the meaning of the word "supposed". It appears my expectations were set too high again, despite the fact you'd actually acknowledged the allegation of sexual assault in your previous post.

It appears my expectations were set too high again, despite the fact you'd actually acknowledged the allegation of sexual assault in your previous post.
Tell me, in your view, if the alleged act was indeed consensual, at what point in the hierarchy of Armagh football does it make you a horrible enough **** to acceptably be put off the panel? I mean, could you ride Geezer's wife if she was up for it and still have dickheads like you on the internet coming out to try and explain it away?
You do know he's off the panel don't you?

Rian is back, not the fella accused of the incident in Miami? Unless you have heard different than me?
Was on Twitter tho, must be true
So Rian O'Neil is now officially not with Armagh as it stands.

Taking a break. Be back for the proper stuff in the summer.
I thought Rian did something similar last year too.

Yep. Don't think he played until Donegal game as a sub if I remember rightly which was maybe the 5th game. A shame but we'll go with what we have for now.
Preferably stay up and get ourselves primed for championship.
O'Neill is strange character. Great talent but unfulfiled talent in a way.
Compare to a Brendan Rogers or a Paul Conroy, to me there's no comparsion. Them lads have a different culture in terms of their approach to their sports.
Dunno Marty. Is he a 12month per year sorta guy? Obviously not. But he's an All Ireland under the belt and still a fair few years left yet. But I know what your saying
Just because he's decided/realised that there's more to life than football doesn't mean that when he plays again he won't be fully committed.

I wish you were right but look how it worked out for Jamie Clarke. A lost talent. There's a lot of resentment from players who don't get the same latitude to rejoin the panel when it suits them.

He's more ability in his big toe than most players in Ireland, Clarke was something similar so you need to give them their head abit, he'll be back. Clarke played on some woeful teams
I was speaking to oisin mcconville after a talk he gave yesterday and he said rian will be back very soon. And the reason he hadnt joined back was that he didnt think he was physically up to the standard and needed more time. He felt it wouldve been unfair if he joined back and not at the level of his teammates.

Being interviewed rather than interviewing....
I don't quite get the joke 😅
Maybe showing my age 😂
McConville was speaking at the Cross addiction awareness evening yesterday I believe.

Why can't he get fit again by training with the squad. He doesn't have to play.

Yeah would be taking that with a pinch of salt tbh, but Rian was something similar last year didn't play much in the league and when he did didn't look fully fit, wouldn't be worried

Not trying to be rude Armagh but you haven't a clue if I was speaking to him or not. 'Take that with a pinch of salt' the cheek of you. Oisin an in law of mine so watch yourself or I'll get him on you.
That's you told ;D
Won't be back this season! 👀

Kieran McGeeney doubts we will see Rian O'Neill in 2025.
"We will not see Rian for a good while, I would say."
Will he play championship?
"I would doubt it. He has his own stuff going on."

That sounds about right. Sad, not so much for Armagh, but for the player, this should be a great year for him.
Does he like to party or what's the story

A real pity he won't be on the pitch. A great player and the new rules should suit him. Hope he sorts himself out regardless of football.

Theres other stuff going on. He has his reasons.
Sad for football he is missing, commentary as to why is not going to help him.
