In response to what I think is Pat Spillane inspired overreaction (no difference in Spillane and Marty Boyle in that context in my eyes) the people have their final and its Kerry V Dublin, should be a good game. But genuinely if people think back to high profile Croke Park games what is the worst you have ever witnessed.
Mine is Donegal V Mayo 1992 AISF. It was putrid - the only difference is that you didnt have Spillane and his sidekicks doing a job on it. The level of skills, attacking and defensive that day was far inferior to last Sunday. But it didnt matter. Pat is priceless at creating fear in the GAA public that their games are being sullied and changed forever asnd for the worst.
Evidently Pat's knowledge of football atrocities doesn't stretch to the Corn na nOg Final of 1984. Final score St Coleman's 2-9 Omagh CBS 0-0. My therapist reckons it's time to let go.... but I don't think I'm ready just yet.
In fairness to Pat he's not that far off this time, though to me the Donegal Antrim game earlier in the summer was (slightly) worse. The 2003 football final was pretty dire as well, as were most of Tyrones games that year.

Have to say I agree about the 1992 game, was standing on the Hill that day as Armagh were in the Minor game against Roscommon. The difference between the 2 games was so different, the minor game was a joy to watch, Dermot Washington was some ball player!

The 2003 Ulster Final was one of the best games of the decade. As for the other Tyrone games in 2003, Tyone played great football in many of them - maybe weren't best for the neutral cause were one sided but certainly were good open games. Think Tyrone scored 20+ in about 4 championship games that year.

1993 Ulster Final finished 0-8 to 0-6 and was a brutal game. In fairness that was more to do with conditions and less to do with the style of football employed but it was still a brutal game!
The Kerry vs Mayo All Ireland finals were as bad a matches as I've seen.
I'd rather watch a low scoring bloodfest any day of the week ahead of a mismatch.

Most of Tyrones games that year were anything but dire. The Final was one of the worst I have ever watched but that was more to do with the gym-loving apple munchers and their negative style of play.
1989 AIF. "Great free-flowing football". You know yourself - you might as well have been watching Riverdance for all the resemblance it had to a good hard, competitive football match.

wee James would have been in the College team that year i think
I would also prefer Sundays game to a one sided hammering. nothing worse than looking forward to a game all week only for it to turn out a no contest from early on.
yes it isnt pretty to watch but at least its a contest
Kildare v Fermanagh 2008 was the worst championship match I've ever been at despite the result.
I think it was still scoreless after 25 mins!
1983 SFC final Dublin v Galway.
Dublin v Westmeath 1/4 final some years ago .Awful awful stuff. Freezing cold for August also.

I had the priviledge of paying $20 to watch thon shite in a bar in New York. Couldn't even get hammered as I togging for 'Donegal' meself later in the day (which ended with me signing into a public hospital as Edward Ward to get a pile of stitches in my head. So good day all round).
As for Pat, Sunday was infinitely better than the one sided basketball matches of his day as the respective sizes of the attendances would attest. An english mate of mine was over for the rugby at the weekend and he made it out to croke park on sunday. He thought it was great stuff altogether 'very intense, very tactical, great atmosphere'. I wonder what he'd have thought of Kerry's semi finals against Monaghan 79 or Ourma 1982?
Fermanagh's win over Donegal in Brewster in '03. As dull and unpassionate a game as I've ever seen.
The worst game I ever saw...
1910 Leinster SFC Final: Louth 0-3 Dublin 0-0
Cork v Donegal in AIQF 2009
Watched a DVD of the 1987 Meath Vs Cork final.
Dire dire stuff.
With the exception of Brian Stafford who was head and shoulders above everyone else on the field it was almost un-watchable.
Connaught Final 18xx
Galway 0-00 Mayo (?) 0-00 FT
Game was abandoned with 5 minutes to go, as the ball burst and there was no replacement.

Was that the 2007 final? Waste of time remember Quirke fucked up gifting goal to Donaghy and it wa game over 10mins in. Shite game i'd far rather have a tight game like sundays
At the height of celtic tiger decadence Cork played Galway in a quarter final, 2005 I think. And the papers raved about the free flowing football, and how the game could be like this all the time if it were not for the remorseless physicality of Armagh etc. What scores, what passing, what dancing about the pitch. What tripe....
Truth is, it was complete dung! Cork subsequently got eaten alive by the 3rd best team in Ireland that year, Kerry.

Can't agree about the Leitrim league game R4L.
While the quality of fare on offer was arguably only middlin, the game was another in a long line of epic dogfights against the Laythrumites down the years.
It had a lot going for it ; monsoon-like weather which made this year's Connacht Final breeze and showers look positively glorious.
The big Laytrum crowd giving it socks under the shed all through.
Big Seamie getting attacked for the second game in a row against one of our neighbours.
The boul Marty Sludden dispatching only two Laythrumites to the line when they were clearly on a war footing.
13 man Laytrum's plucky second half showing against the all odds to lead late in the game.
And of course not forgetting The Rossies late comeback culminating in Cregger's wonderful winner.
Aye, a game that could go down in legend yet imho ( especially if i have anything to do with it anyhow :D )
' 93 on the other hand ... totally agree. Have managed to wipe most of it from the memory banks at this stage, although Dempsey's goal is still stubbornly hanging in there ...

Down v Sligo around 2006 was a joke of a match, probably Down's worst ever championship performance. O'Rourke's last game in charge. There was an All-Ireland quarter final there a few years ago as well which was so bad it was unbelievable - possibly Cork-Sligo in 2007?

1895 Munster Final between Cork and Kerry in Limerick. With 5 minutes to go the teams were scoreless when the ball burst and a replacement could not be found. The ref declared the game a draw.
In 1906 Kerry drew with Mayo on the scoreline of 0-01 to 0-01.

Back then 1 goal beat any number of points, they were probably playing for goals, one team scored a point with a few minutes to go and the other probably went o shit and scored one to level it.
At another stage 1 goal = 5 points, not sure at the time line between goal worth more than all points to goal = 5 points, to goal = 3 points.
Anyone else able to confirm or deny my statement.
Sligo Cork in 2008 was a complete dead rubber IIRC. One of the worst games I've been at.
