Both on tomorrow and the match in London is the official start to the 2023 championship. One of these four teams will be into the Connacht final and be 2nd seeds in the All Ireland group stages. Three that don't go into the Tailteann cup (New York would join at the Quarter final stage)

Campbell is from Tipp
Bill Maher played with Tipp for a few years too. Gavin O'Brien won played Kerin O'Rahillys winning a Munster club title last year. Eoghan Kerins and Adrian Varley played with Galway and Mark Ellis played hurling for Cork.
The real heroes here are the Connacht Council people who have to travel to NY and London away from their homes and families to make sure all is ok.
If New York win will they show up for their games?

They showed up after they lost to Sligo last year (Offaly in O'Connor Park in Tailteann Cup) if they get their first ever Championship win on Saturday as far as I know they'll be away to Sligo or London.
NYLON
Heathrow Airport or else diverted to Schiphol
Silly question here...
Have NY and Lon been in the same championship before? As far as I remember it was one or the other.
Better get that oul memory checked out....
London in Connacht Championship since the 1970s, NY since around 2000.
London 0-2 Sligo 0-3 after 15 minutes. Radio coverage on Ocean FM.
Half time London 0-4 Sligo 0-12. Home side 2nd best but early in the contest they had a goal chance saved.
All too easy for Sligo 14 point winners and showed no sign of tiredness after last weeks league final. With the work they have done and are still doing at underage level Sligo are one side to keep an eye on in the years ahead to see how they progress at senior level.
FT London 0-12 Sligo 2-20. Pat Spillane junior named man of the match with 1-4.
I expect Sligo, under the direction of a good Cross' man, to play in the Connacht final.
If Armagh do end up playing them in the round robin then I'd say that they would pose a bigger problem than Antrim.
Say they runner up on the final as expected. They be on a group with Dublin.
Looks to be a decent crowd in Gaelic Park.
New York 0-3 Leitrim 0-3 after 10 minutes.
30 mins played New York 0-6 Leitrim 0-6
Half time New York 0-7 Leitrim 0-6
New York winning 0-7 to 0-6 at halftime, think it should be 8-6 that last effort from New York definitely looked like a point. Entertaining enough game, so far.

New York with more supporters than Antrim.
45 minutes played New York 0-8 Leitrim 0-8
Leitrim getting it tight enough in the Big Apple -- the Connacht Council presently having canaries! :)
55 mins played New York 0-10 Leitrim 0-10. Two of New York better players Bill Maher (Tipp) Adrian Varley (Galway) subbed off
0-11 each 65 mins gone.
FT New York 0-13 Leitrim 0-13. Extra time to be played.
Very enjoyable game, both teams giving it socks and it's like a game from the 60s with every kick out going long to the middle
Surely there was 2 or 3 minutes more to be played there
Enjoyable game, the very least New York deserve.

Cramp time?
Considering it's resource rich New York, the stadium is a schemozzle.
You'd imagine Leitrim would have the legs in extra time
New York's last effort in the 1st half looked like a point but given as a wide. All the more dodgy that decision now when it finished level on 70 mins.

Glynn has been massive for New York but tank was empty and he's gone off. Can his replacement, an American born player fill in adequately for him?
Yes Glynn has been good for New York. 0-15 each the next score the likely winner if another score.
FT after ET New York 0-15 Leitrim 0-15. Penalties to find a winner.
Penalties
Penalties!
Mental stuff in extra time. U12s would take better decisions than both teams.
Big Apple Abú! ;D
3 diabolical penalties so far
Ah here what's going on
Great excitement but awful penalties 🙈
This is mental.
Jaysus lads!!
Ah jaysus how can they be this bad at penos. New York score they win
Famous night for New York they win on penalties. Leitrim miss every penalty
Wow. What scenes.
Congrats New York
It's not about the quality of the penalties, what an end to the game. Incredible scenes at the end.
Well done New York, thoroughly deserved.
Well done New York.
Could they take Sligo and get to the final?????

They'll have to sober up first.
New York got so close to winning over the years finally they have done it, well done to them. As for Leitrim a shocker for them, 12 wides and 3 or 4 goal chances not taken, they must hate the sight of penalties having lost their last 3 shootouts.
There is a general moral in the story, that in 2023 teams need a plan for penalties.
Nua-Eabhrac Abú
Poor old Leitrim
Unbelievable news to wake up to. If they beat Sligo are they into the all ireland series?!?

Did Rosandy do any badge kissing last night?
Did New York even get to play challenge matches coming into that game last night? A bit of unwanted piece of history for Leitrim.
Shane Carthy a big addition for them. Fair play

Not against any Irish teams - might possibly have played some of the US clubs (most likely the New York teams)
It was great entertainment, thought Leitrim would prevail in extra time but it didn't materialise.
Leitrim between challenge matches, FBD and league will have played in excess of 10 counties whilst New York haven't had played one. A far more talented panel then Leitrim but still some result.

They are. The details are horrid complicated though. The boys in the CCCCCCCCC will be praying it doesn't happen. Probably won't happen either. Sligo are getting their stuff together.
I thought last year London and NY were excluded from the Tailteann , presumably for operational reasons.
Best chance Leitrim had of reaching a Connacht final. Was looking forward to the build up to the Semi final with Sligo. Will be very hard to lift this panel of players for the remainder of the season. Will Andy Moran hang around for next year?

They weren't hammered. They were very close and there is no shame in being beaten by that team. To give up now would make no sense. They still have the Tailteann.
The 2006 Ulster hurling final was played in Boston after New York reached the final. There was some concern about the immigration status of some of the New York team.

Not really. Leitrim are division 4 and have the lowest population base in the championship. This is probably the best NY team for a while.
I thought they would win.

Yes, that with the associated pitch invasion, rather than the poor investment in the stadium was my main takeaway from the historic victory.

I think it used to belong to NY GAA originally.
They then leased it for years after the city took it over. Currently belongs to Manhattan College who use it for other sports.
Biggest problem is obviously the surface. Its expensive and difficult to maintain decent grass playing fields somewhere like NYC with the weather and then the demands put on it by all the other sports.

This has a breakdown of the New York team - I'd imagine that a lot of people wouldn't have realised just how many quality experienced intercounty players are on the team.
Will be interesting to see how they get on against Sligo.

Should be a Connacht neutral venue if New York reach the final but then again London in 2013 was in a similar situation and the Connacht GAA gave a home final match to Mayo.
With Mayowestros out ye can be sure the CF will be in McHale Park.
Connacht teams flying out to New York coming to an end?
Mayo supporters who were already planning on a trip to New York for the opening round of next year's Connacht senior football championship should stall the ball.
That's the advice from Connacht GAA CEO, John Prenty, who says that no decision has yet been made on the format for the 2024 provincial series as the current five-year rota for teams travelling to New York came to an end last weekend.
This means that Connacht GAA chiefs will now carry out a review of the arrangement that sees New York compete in the provincial championship before deciding on how best to proceed.
Teams from New York have been taking part in the Connacht championship since 1999, and the Exiles won a game in the competition for the first time last weekend when they beat Leitrim on a penalty shoot-out at Gaelic Park.
New York — who have two Mayo natives in their squad, Matthew Queenan (Lahardane) and Jack Reilly (Charlestown) — will now travel to Ireland to take on Sligo in the Connacht SFC semi-final at Markievicz Park on Saturday week next, April 22.
However, John Prenty said that, regardless of last weekend's result, New York's participation in the Connacht championship is up for review at the end of this season.
"Because this is the end of a five-year rota, we will have to meet and review the situation," he told The Mayo News.
"It was obviously a great result for New York last weekend, and we're delighted for every team that wins a match in the Connacht championship, but the reality is that it's a significant cost to County Boards to travel over every year in terms of flights, accommodation and so on.
"And that cost has risen a lot since Covid, even with a grant from Connacht Council.
"So we will have to discuss it. Personally, I would feel that maybe it's time for New York to travel to Ireland for their Connacht championship games for five years.
"They were over for the Tailteann Cup last year, and they have sent over junior teams and hurling teams. Plus, back in 1999, and for the first few years that New York played in the Connacht championship, they would have travelled over.
"So that may be an option again," he added.
The Connacht GAA Council give a grant of €50,000 to Connacht teams travelling to New York for the provincial championship fixture to help and offset the cost.
The total cost of Leitrim's trip this season is believed to be in the region of €140,000.
All gate receipts from the game are retained by New York GAA, with more than 6,000 people understood to be in Gaelic Park last Saturday and match tickets costing $30 each.

Somewhere halfway between Connacht and Manhattan just so neither have further to travel.
Reykjavík's nice at this time of year.
New Yorks Connacht fairytale campaign over. All too easy for the home side who are into their first Connacht final since 2015. Sligo 2-16 New York 0-6.
Sure it got them a free trip home.
