Top American Reviews rate Irish film 'Once' at #3 for 2007

 RottenTomaotes.com (great name) have Irish film 'Once' rated as 3rd best movie this year although their 'Tomatometer' has it at number 1.

Talk of a big push to get an Oscar nomination for best score. Anyone who has seen the film would agree the music is fantastic.

Not bad for a flim made for €100,000.

Here is what American critics are saying about it.

I notice that this movie which received 75% of its financing from the Irish government (Bord Scannán na hÉireann) with the balance paid by the Irish director John Carney and filmed entirely in Dublin, has been nominated by the London Critics' Circle Richard Attenborough British Film of the Year.  In the same awards Irish born director of Once, John Carney who lives in Wicklow has been nominated for the British Breakthrough In Filmmaking award.

Seperate to this, Carlow youngster, Saoirse Ronan, has been nominated as Best British Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in Atonement.

Hopefully they don't all get pissed and start using bad language on live tv otherwise they'll suddenly be Irish again!  Unbelievable!

Well go on then, tell me why - was Coppola at directors school around in Dublin in the early 70's - he probably ran into the medical student crowd over at UCD, thon lad Socrates was some craic!!

Not movies, but Irish band Primordial got voted 2nd best album of 2007 by a german magazine and 4th in a Uk publication. Good going lads. They've done really well on the continent, not so well known at home but. Had more then their fair share of record company disasters over the years. Hope things are more steady for them from now on.

Jayz.  What I was trying to say was that the Brits claiming Once as theirs makes as much sense as us claiming Godfather II as ours.
