Diesel fuel

Over the years I've heard of people using Red and Green diesel in their cars. Also heard of people using Kerosene mixed with Veggie oil and their cars run a dream. A friend of mine has a 5 year old car he's had from new and he runs it on Kero/Veg Oil and he reckons it's 100% fine. Is this the case or is he doing damage?

Any mechanics here who can vouch for it? The reason I ask is I'm thinking of buying a diesel car and finding it hard to research if there are any issues arising from Kero/Veg Oil.

Price the cost of new injectors before doing anything  :)

Wouldn't be putting any home made concoction into anything made after 2014.

Or anything with a common rail engine either

Its a fools errand unless you really know what you're doing.

Ribena juice really soundest option for diesel users.

Yeah, i'm no mechanic but for any modern car (2010 onwards) I would not be putting any mixtures other than the real diesel is mad. What you save on fuel you'll give it away on engine parts and if you're lucky to have a warranty on the car you can kiss that goodbye too

Yeah 100%. (Allegedly of course)

You need to find an old diesel car with a mechanical fuel pump. Late 80s/early 90s. Then you have to source used oil and have the space and resources to set up a filtration system. Then you need to wait a few days before you can use it and you'll probably have to mix it with petrol and clean diesel.

Appreciate the replies but as I mentioned my mate has been running his 2020 Discovery on 25/1 Kero/Veg Oil and insists it's same as Diesel. He's a mechanic. Says it's 100% with no damage.
There's very little info on it on-line so just wanted to see was this common place. Doesn't seem to be.

If your mates a mechanic why are you asking a bunch of mostly anonymous people on a forum?  I will generally rely on someone who actually knows what they're talking about....do you not trust him?

It works but fucks two things. Kerosene is a much poorer lubricant compared to diesel hence the need to add oil as a lubricant. Most lads I heard added engine oil or 2 stroke or similar, I wouldn't be a particular fan of veg oil given that it's chemical consistency varies widely. Either way the poor lubricant structure means it burns out your injectors over time.

Secondly kerosene burns at a higher temperature than diesel and therefore your engine head is subjected to a much higher thermal stress than on diesel. Much more likely that the head gasket goes with the extra stress.

There's loads of cars on the road running on parrafin. You can smell them as you drive behind them with the reek of the exhaust fumes.

Well I do trust that it works in his Discovery and the fact that he's a mechanic maybe he keeps the car right?
I just want more conclusive info.
I am in process of buying a Diesel and have been researching aforementioned claims and really struggling to find anything conclusive, hence my posting here to see if anyone has experience of it.

Is there any badness in red diesel? What price is it now?
