AZOffaly

Sorry Hegenboy, I'll be doing an update tomorrow, but I always do a Monday Morning roundup.

Well the first weekend of the new season has come and gone, and with 2 games left tonight there are some crackers underway in our Fantasy season 1. Pride of place must go to the match between Bet With Paddy Power (Dodgy Corporate sponsorship there! :) ) and Hegan's Helmets with a mighty 265 points between them. Great stuff lads.

Anyway, here we go.

Curragh Rams 86.45 - 52.47 The Faithful Turfmen
The Rams got of to a screaming start in this tie as Peyton Manning (QB - IND) amassed 25.76 points on Thurday night against the Saints by way of 288 yards through the air and 3 TD passes. Marc Bulger (QB-STL) chipped in with 10.24 points (167 yds - 1 TD) last night and this strong performance from the QB position has given the Rams a good base to build from. With 114 yards returning, Leon Washington (RB - NYJ) added a valuable 11.45 points and Adam Vinatieri (K-IND 11 points) and the New England Defence (15 points) have helped to set a good target. All is not lost for the Turfmen though, despite an abysmal performance from Wade Philips' new defence in Dallas. 35 points conceded with a return of minus 1 point is a shocking start for a 'top' defence, and puts the Turfmen in a poor position to make up the ground needed tonight. Having said that, Jake Delhomme (QB - CAR) with 22.62 points from 201 yards and 3 TDs has kept them in with a slight chance, and while no-one else has managed to break the 10 point barrier, they remain in striking distance, albeit with an outside chance as Carson Palmer (QB - CIN), Todd Heap (TE-BAL) and Adrian Wilson (DB - ARI) are in action tonight. The Rams will look to Ravens wide receiver Demetrius Williams to keep the Turfmen at arms length.

shane oneills 43.70 - 81.03 Ardboe Astros
I'm sure the Astros manager will have more important things on his mind this with the tragic news from Ardboe over the weekend, so I think I'll pass on the commentary here. RIP young Patrick Devlin.

Ballyhaise Broncos 69.01 - 64.41 Mayo Mafiosi
Despite being 5 points behind here, the Mafiosi are surely in the driving seat with 4 players yet to perform against a fully utilised Broncos team. The Broncos had good strong outings from Jay Cutler (Den - QB) with 14.98 points from 304 yards and a TD and also from the Chargers Defence who amassed 21 points against the toothless Bears. It was low scoring after that from the Broncos, and they are primed to be overtaken by the Mafiosi. The Mayo men seem to have overcome a poor outing from Vince Young (QB-TEN) who only contributed 6.66 points to the total, despite running in a score himself, as good performances from Drew Carter (CAR - WR, 2 TDs, 14.45 points), Marion Barber III (RB - DAL, 65 yds, 1 TD, 11.20 points) and Roscoe Parrish (WR - BUF, 88 return yards, 1 TD, 14.55 points) have put them in position to win the game with Steve McNair (QB - BAL), Mark Clayton (WR - BAL), Kenny Watson (RB - CIN) and the Baltimore Defence all to get a run out tonight.

hegan's helmets 132.37 - 133.35 Bet with Paddy Power
Undisputedly the clash of the week with 2 fantastic performances, and it is still in the balance going into tonight's game. The bookies hold a slender 0.98 point lead, but both sides will consider themselve hugely unfortunate to lose out in this battle that would have done justice to the Superbowl final itself. Where to begin? Well for Paddy Power there were 6 positions who topped 10 points, and by some distance in a lot of cases. Plexico Burress, the hitherto wildly inconsistant ex-Steeler, now a feature at Wide Reciever for the Giants had a wonderful night, scoring 31.20 points from 144 yards receiving and 3 TD catches. He was ably backed up by his ex-teammates at Pittsburgh as their 'D' added 23 points with 5 turnovers. Oakland RB Lamont Jordan joined the party with 18.45 points from 70 rushing yards and a TD to go with 89 receiving yards, while Andre Johnson (WR-HOU) had a not too shabby 17.10 points with 142 yards and a TD. The man with more baggage than one of the new Airbuses can hold, Terrell Owens (WR - DAL) got his season off to a great start with 2 TDS on 87 yards receiving for 17.85 points, while Trent Green's (QB - MIA) 10.38 points off 219 yards and a TD were not great but every point helps in a close game like this. Reading through that impressive list of stats, you have to wonder why this is not a blow-out, but huge credit is due to the helmets, who have answered every question. Plexico Burress would be wondering why he is not the MVP of the tie, but Tony Romo (QB - DAL) had a sensational night to top the Giants wideout. The Cowboys slinger threw for 345 yards and 4 TDs, while rushing for one himself to give a giant total of 39.45 points, and but for an INT would have topped the 40 mark. If he was brilliant, Ben Roethlisberger (QB-PIT) was only slightly less so, as his 27.32 points from 161 yards and 4 TDs gave a combined QB tally of 66.77. Impressive by any standards. The production in the rest of the helmets was not quite as stellar, but Indy Wide Receiver Marvin Harrison chipped in with 12.15 points, while another ex-Steeler receiver Antwoine Randle El (WR - WAS) added 15.60 points. Tha Jacksonville Defence added 11 points to leave the game very delicately poised going into tonight's games. Willis McGahee (RB - BAL) will be trying to produce a big night in Cincinnatti for the helmets, but 49er kicker Joe Nedney faces his old Cardinal teammates in San Francisco tonight as well, and will be hoping to keep the scoreboard ticking over for the Bet with Paddy Power squad. Losing this will be a kick in the teeth, but the victor could well be set up for the season.

Crossmaglen Hitmen 125.98 - 55.37 Mayo Warriors
The first real blow out of the season is in progress here, as the Warriors are struggling, despite a moderately decent total, against a powerful opening from the Hitmen. Jon Kitna (QB-DET) had a big night with 23.13 points from 3 TDs and 289 yards, although his old failing of passing to the wrong colour jersey also came back to haunt him with 2 INTs.The Vikings proved what a powerful weapon a good Defence is, posting 36 points, while Laverneus Coles (WR - NYJ, 59 yds, 2TD, 18.45 points), Wes Welker (WR-NE, 61 yards, 1 TD, 12.35 points) and Clinton Portis (RB -WAS, 98 yards, 1 TD, 11.40 points) all contributed handsomely to the total. The Warriors did have high points in the ever-reliable Tom Brady (QB-NE, 297 yards, 3 TDs, 26.14 points) and the Bears Defence (11 points) but an overall lack of scoring threat has cost them. The Hitmen will send two point producers in Rudi Johnson (RB - CIN) and Neil Rackers (K-ARI) into action tonight, while the Warriors cannot hope that Ashley Lelie (WR - SF) will produce anything other than a slight dent in the deficit.

Lurgan Langers 76.38 - 80.87 O'Neill's Chargers
Another close encounter here should see, barring absolute disaster, a good win for the Chargers in the season opener at the expense of a game Langers side. The heroics of Eli Manning (QB-NYG, 312 yards, 4 TDs, 32.34 points) look to be in vain, as only Matt Hasselbeck (QB-SEA, 222, 1 TD, 10.79) and teammate Shaun Alexander (RB - SEA, 105, 1TD, 14.85) stood up to the mark in a meaningful way, and the big let down was the performance of the minus 4 point New York Jet defence. With the Langers all done, the Chargers only need to not self-destruct to ensure the win, as they lead by 4+ points with TJ Houshmandzadeh (WR - CIN) still to play. Unless TJ has a nightmare night with fumbles, then the Langers will be able to pull of a rare feat, winning a high enough scoring game while getting next to nothing from the QB position. Brett Favre (QB-GB) did play on a winning side, and threw for 206 yards, but no TDs, 1 INT and 1 fumble lost gave him a nett total of only 0.02 points, while Mark Brunell (QB -WAS) was inactive for Sunday's game. Overcoming that start meant that others would have to pick up the slack, and Reggie Wayne (WR-IND, 115, 2 TD, 21.25), Jason Witten (TE-DAL, 116, 1 TD, 16.80) Tatum Bell (RB - DET, 87, 1 TD, 12.65 points) and the Seahawks Defence (19 points) did just that to all but guarantee the perfect start for the Chargers.

Red Hand Helmets 39.45 - 59.05 Lummox Squad 57
Given the fact that no real standout performers are left for either side, and on the basis that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, the 57 squad will be relatively comfortable going into the final games of week 1 with a 19+ point lead for what would be a significant opening day victory over the reigning GAABoard Superbowl champs. There were no really stellar performances in this fairly low scoring encounter, but that will matter not to the Lummoxes if they hold on for a precious 1-0 start to the season. As you may imagine in such a tally, neither team got much in the way of production from their QB positions, with a grand total of minus 0.5 between all 4 QBs.The Lummox Squad actually 'tallied' all of those points as JP Losman of Buffalo was the star QB on show with a measly 0.59 points, while his counterpart in Kansas City, Damon Huard, hurt the Lummoxes with a return of minus .64. Calvin Johnson (WR - DET, 70, 1 TD, 11.50 points) and the Washington Defence (11 points) did the significant scoring for the Lummox Squad, but they can thank their lucky stars that the Helmets had no option but to turn out 2 backup QBs, who had no game time. Brandon Marshall (WR-DEN, 11.60 points) did his best for the Helmets, but he was sorely lacking any meaningful backup. There are 3 Helmets in action tonight, Darrel JAckson (WR-SF), Frank Gore (RB -SF) and Baltimore DB B.J. Sams, but barring a very strong night from Gore or Jackson, the Lummoxes should have enough in hand, especially with Bryant Johnson (WR-ARI) and Vernon Davies (TE-SF) also on duty to add a little breathing room.

Craigyhill Terrors 89.50 - 35.70 Cleveland Steamers
A solid if unspectacular start from the Terrors looks to have given them an unassailable lead even though the Steamers have 3 scoring positions to count tonight. Nothing overly impressive from the Terrors, but nice solid all round scoring was the name of the game, although LeDanian Tomlinson (RB - SD) did overcome a quiet enough start to the Bears game to post 19.64 points on 25 yards rushing with 1 TD, to go with 51 receiving yards, and also a 17 yard TD pass. Adrian Peterson (RB - MIN) had a nice showing with 103 yards rushing, and a 60 yard TD reception for a total of 17.75 points, but that was the extent of the 10 point plus gang. The Steamers cannot even match that, with only Brian Westbrook (RB - PHI, 85 yards rushing, 46 receiving, 10.05 points) breaking the 10 point barrier. The QB situation in this matchup was also poor, but while Schaub and Jackson, in Houston and Minnesota respectively,at least managed to contribute 16 odd points between them, Charlie Batch (QB - PIT) and Daunte Culpepper (QB - OAK) had minus 0.05 points in total. As both are backups, it is some feat to even contribute minus points, but Batch rushed for -1 yard to do the damage. The Steamers will cling to the hope that Anquin Boldin (WR -ARI), Chad Johnson (WR-CIN) and Derrick Mason (WR-BAL) can haul them back into it,but even though that is an impressive triumvarate on paper, 54 points is a big target for any 3 people. Nonetheless, the fat lady, while warming up, is not singing the Terror's fight song just yet.

Sydney's Sailors 59.15 - 95.62 L'Esprit de Biff
The most consistant team (winners in 05, runners up in 06) of the GAABoard look set fair for another smooth start as they hold a 38 point lead heading into the last day of week one, thanks to a solid performance across the team, without any real standout performances. Torry Holt (WR-STL, 73, 1Td, 13.65 points) top scored for the Biffs, and was assisted by David Garrard (QB-JAX - 204 yards, 1 TD, 11.28 points), Jevon Walker (WR - DEN, 119, 12.45 points), Travis Henry (RB - DEN, 139, 12.65 points), Chris Brown (RB - TEN, 175, 13.40 points) and the Eagles Defence (10 points). The Sailors responded through top scoring Antonio Gates (TE- SD, 107, 1 TD, 17.85 points), Joseph Addai (RB - IND, 118, 1 TD, 16.65 points) and Santonio Holmes (WR - PIT, 55, 1 TD, 10.30 points) but are struggling to overcome a likely 0 point return from the QB position as Kurt Warner will be backup QB for Arizona, while Tim Rattay is not going to feature in Tennessee. There is still an outside chance for the Sailors, as Shayne Graham (K - CIN) and the San Francisco Defence will play tonight, and big nights from both may just reel in the fully totalled Biffs, unlikely as it may seem at the moment.

Galway Impactplayers 87.95 - 46.64 Ruthless Rossies
The all Connacht battle between the Impactplayers and the Rossies seems set to come down on the side of the tribesmen, as they hold a healthy 41 point lead heading into the Monday night games, and even though the Rossies have 3 potentially high scorers in Alex Smith (QB - SF), Arnaz Battle (WR - SF) and Matt Stover (K-BAL) on duty, the Impactplayers send one of the premier receivers in Larry Fitzgerald (WR-ARI) and that may be enough. With 3 QBs having played thus far, it is another story of two teams trying to win in spite of, rather than because of, the play of the signal callers. The Impactplayers have done well to chalk up 87 points with neither QB featuring at all, while the Rossies will be cursing the performance of Drew Brees (QB - NO). Hailed as one of the top triggermen in the game, Brees' thursday night performance (192 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTS, 1 Fumble, minus 1.36 points) will have had the coach tearing his hair out, and seriously undermined his team's chances of getting off to a 1-0 start. In fact, thus far, only the Carolina Defence (12 points) and Terrence McGee (DB - BUF, 5 tackles, 3 passes defended, 13.10 points including return yardage) managed to break the 10 point mark. The Impactplayers were much more solid out the field as Randy Moss (WR-NE) turned on the style in his debut for the Patriots with 183 yards and a TD for 23.65 points. Also prominent for the ImpactPlayers were Ronald Curry (WR-OAK, 133, 1 TD, 19.65 points), Hines Ward (WR - PIT, 51, 1 TD, 10.05 points) and Jason Hanson (K-DET, 14 points). It's not over just yet, but all indicators would point to the Impact players holding on to go 1-0 on the new season.

Final results tomorrow.....

Can I just confirm that I'm O'Neills Chargers and not shaneoneills. May be paranoid here but is there a chance that this is a dud team (going by the username)- have they been active?

Has your multitude of usernames/aliases/accounts caught you out O'Neill?

22 points from one of my Defensive Players  :o :o :o :o

It's still up in the air yet - I've got Leinart going tonight - but the other fella - *cough* O'Neill - has Kyle Boller and Edgerrin James up on tap tonight

#157
So week 1 is over, and some people are off to a flyer, while others (ahem) are already playing catchup. Full rundown below.

Curragh Rams 86.45 - 75.80 The Faithful Turfmen
Rams Coach Dinny Breen pulled off a very risky stroke last night, in an attempt to copperfasten his lead over the Faithful Turfmen. With a 34 point lead, and facing 3 scoring positions to come, as against one of his own, he controversially dropped Ravens Wide Receiver Demetrius Williams, doubtless fearing fumblitis from his Wideman. As it turned out the gamble was unnecessary, but paid off, as despite Williams 4.25 points not counting, the Turfmen fell 10+ points short in the comeback attempt. Carson Palmer (QB - CIN) had a decent night with 194 yards and 2 TDs for 15.88 points, but Todd Heap (TE-BAL) and Adrian Wilson (DB - ARI) were unable to procure quite enough to make the Rams regret the benching of Williams. So 1-0 for the Rams, while the Turfmen again face a 0-1 start.

shane oneills 54.68 - 86.82 Ardboe Astros
No commentary here, but a good start for the Astros against a possible phantom team.

Ballyhaise Broncos 69.01 - 75.97 Mayo Mafiosi
The Mafiosi went on to gain their expected comeback win last night, albeit in unconvincing fashion as Steve McNair (QB - BAL) had a nightmare with minus 3.44 points on the night, which set the target a bit higher for the other 3. Then Mark Clayton (WR - BAL) and  Kenny Watson (RB - CIN) both had 0 point nights, which mounted the pressure on the Baltimore Defence. Luckily for the Mayomen, the Ravens D, as so often in the past, were up to the task, and a return of 15 points gave them a nailbiting 6+ point win to move to 1-0. The Broncos will feel hard changed to be at 0-1 given the crcumstances.

hegan's helmets 139.42 - 141.35 Bet with Paddy Power
A huge win in the game of the week, and the Heinekein Light 'Premium Player of the Week' award goes to Bet with Paddy Power, who held off the hugely impressive Hegan's Helmets to record a 1-0 start to the season. Willis McGahee (RB - BAL) had a reasonable night with 7.05 points for the helmets, but Joe Nedney, kicking for San Francisco against his old Cardinals teammates did just enough in recording 8 points for the bookies to clinch the win. If we have many more games like this, it'll be some season, well done to both teams.

Crossmaglen Hitmen 136.28 - 55.37 Mayo Warriors
If Bet with Paddy Power and Hegan's Helmets were producing an epic tussle, the Crossmaglen Hitmen were also notching up a prodigous tally in this blowout of the Warriors. Leading by a huge margin coming into Monday Night's games, Rudi Johnson (RB - CIN, 5.30 points) and Neil Rackers (K-ARI, 5 points) simply put an unneeded 10 points extra on the board, while the Warriors Ashley Lelie (WR - SF) failed to register at all. The Hitmen have served notice with a powerful 1-0 start themselves, while the warriors, although soundly beaten, can take heart that with a little improvement, they can also be competitive against most teams in the league.

Lurgan Langers 76.38 - 93.87 O'Neill's Chargers
Well TJ Houshmandzadeh (WR - CIN) had anything but a nightmare as the Chargers refrained from using the same tactics as the Curragh Rams and allowed him to take his chances, and it paid off as the big Bengals wideout added 13 points to give an impressive debut win to the Chargers. The Langers will take comfort in 76 points themselves, but it's 0-1 for them.

Red Hand Helmets 66.40 - 61.35 Lummox Squad 57
So much for proverbs, as the two birds in the bush came up trumps for the Helmets as they successfully reeled in a 19 point deficit with 5 points to spare over a disappointed Lummox Squad. Bryant Johnson (WR-ARI) and Vernon Davies (TE-SF) lived up to their pre-match billing as not major point scorers as they combined for just 2.30 points. Unfortunately for the Lummoxes, Darrel JAckson (WR-SF), Frank Gore (RB -SF) and Baltimore DB B.J. Sams were not quite as obliging, and while Gore and Jackson had a repectable 14.1 points between them, the surprise star was BJ Sams who had a great night on returns before leaving injured, and amassed a match winning total of 12.85 points. Unexpected joy for the Helmets, then, at 1-0, while the Lummoxes will have to regroup for Week 2.

Craigyhill Terrors 89.50 - 66.65 Cleveland Steamers
It was always going to a huge ask for even the 3 WR musketeers to pull back a 54 point deficit, and so it proved, although they did give it a decent run. Anquin Boldin (WR -ARI, 9.80 points), Chad Johnson (WR-CIN, 13.35 points) and Derrick Mason (WR-BAL, 7.80 points) performed solidly, if not quite as spectacularly as needed, but the Steamers fell short by 23 points. A good start for the Terrors at 1-0, while the Steamers will probably need to get their QB position sorted out to really trouble the league. 66 points without a QB contribution is a solid display though.

Sydney's Sailors 73.15 - 95.62 L'Esprit de Biff
The Biffs held on comfortably enough to their big lead as the Sailors fell 22 points short on the point chase, and one of the true Blue Bloods of the Fantasy GAABoard League will be quietly satisfied with their start, while casting wary glances towards some of the huge totals flying about in other games. The Sailors had to hope for big performances from Shayne Graham (K - CIN) and the San Francisco Defence and while 7 points from each was far from disastrous, it really needed something more special to cause any nail biting in the L'Esprit camp. The Biffs start on 1-0 again, while the Sailors will draw some comfort from a a 73.15 return as they attempt to get their season up and running next week.

Galway Impactplayers 90.95 - 68.51 Ruthless Rossies
The Rossies were unable to make up any real ground on the ImpactPlayers last night, despite the Galway men having a poor outing from Larry Fitzgerald. The Cardinal WR only contributed 3 points to the tally, but the lead was such that it was unlikely to make much difference barring career nights for the Rossies who were on duty. As it panned out, apart from Arnaz Battle (WR - SF, 11.55 points) they never really threatened to do the needful as Alex Smith (QB - SF) was held to 2.32 points `while Matt Stover (K-BAL) only had the opportunity to deliver 8 points of his own. The Connacht bragging rights go to the ImpactPlayers for the time being, and they move off at 1-0, while the Rossies will have to hope for much more from Brees and Smith at QB if they are to perform with their customary strength again this season.

yeah - was watching the game live - looked innocuous enough at the start - but obviously not.

Bad times
