Look-Up!

The only people obsessed with the Glazers are Utd fans and ex Utd player/pundits, Neville especially. So blinded they refuse to look anywhere else for the problems at the club. Ten Hag has got plenty of his wish list players, it's now down to him to make his mark with those players and if he fails that's on him. I get that overpaying for players is problematic but only if they turn out to be flops. If they gel into the managers system and offer a return it's not a problem. Every club overpays. City on Grealish, Arsenal on Rice, Liverpool on Van Dijk, Nunez, Becker are just some examples.

Keep Liverpool and Van Dijk out of this please, considering you guys paid more for Harry Maquire.

Quote from: thewobbler on October 04, 2023, 08:41:35 AMUnited's problem going all the way back to Moyes has been recruitment, not ownership.

Fellaini ushered in an era in which United's transfer market signature move has been to overpay for players for positions they've already filled, and to overpay for players that don't fit their system.

Because it's United, they have to pay top drawer and their squad since has ballooned full of players earning huge salaries.

And because these players were never really needed, but cannot be moved on, there's been a clear culture ever since Fellaini of players seeing out their contracts without ever having to earn the money. Which is infectious.

People can blame all this on the Glazers. But all they've actually done is heavily back a series of managers in the transfer market.

The ironic thing is what United really need is a few windows where they only sell players, just to trim the squad and the insipid culture... but do that and the fans will be up in arms. They want signings and they don't care what they cost.

And that's the current Man United cycle.

Who's responsible for recruitment? It's not the fans or players. The owners put Woodward and co in place to look after recruitment ffs - it goes back to the owners. You're right in where it went wrong but the fact the owners didn't change things is on them not the people below them of the fans.

And the owners didn't back the club in the transfer market - they allowed them to spend the clubs income on signings while not investing any money back into facilities etc.
Yes the recruitment all goes back to the owners. Woodward the Glazers favourite only recently let go after years of damage brought in the current chaps Richard Arnold,John Murtough the latter overseen the already mentioned pure nonsense with De Jong he also got rid of Rangnick who was meant to carry out a consultancy role once Teg Hag arrived but Ralf in public called things as they were including that club needed "open heart surgery." those kind of comments irked Murtough.

Can get rid of Ten Hag next week and bring in Zidane or Nagelsmann and after a bit of a new manager bounce will probably in 12 or so months time find themselves back to square one. Many mid tier clubs in the Premier league are better run/organised than United which isn't going to change until new owners with required competence on running the club from top to bottom are brought in.

The NY Knicks are still in the top ten most valuable sports teams in the world (along with the NY Yankees, Giants and Jets) and are valued more than Real Madrid and Man United.

Knicks fans can't stand Jim Dolan, the owner. Despite spending (and making) a fortune on the team, they've been past the first round of the playoffs THREE times since he took control in 1999. No major NBA superstar, with the lone past exception of Carmelo Anthony, ever wants to come to the Knicks due the disfunction and the media focus.

Some owners are simply happy to let things float along as long as the seats are filled and the money is rolling in. Unfortunately, there's not much fans can do except to stop going/watching and buying the shirts. But at that level, there's always someone else to fill that seat, whether it's Old Trafford or the Garden.

Watching Newcastle tonight versus Manchester United last night and its like night and day in terms of pure passion and workrate. Newcastle players are certainly no better individually than some of the man united players but they have a hard working system and they stick to it

What's going on with McTominay?  He's far from   world class , but he at least gets stuck in.

He's got 6 goals for Scotland in qualifying already ,  and by all accounts is playing well for them , so Clarke is obviously getting the best from him. Yet he can't  get any time for United. Bizarre

He really, really does not. He's quite lazy, very slow, and has a desperate first touch for a midfielder.

He's never been good enough for a top PL side, and he's definitely not the solution right now. A freak run of goals for his national side doesn't change that. He had a whole one international goal prior to March - he's revert to that mean soon enough.
Doc would listen to any kind of nonsense and change it for you to a kind of wisdom.

Yeah he's terrible and EtH at least recognised that and banished him and Fred. OGS kept playing them and it cost him his job.

Barcelona game last year Fred was unreal. Casemiro and Varane are class but both on the wrong side of 30

One Swallow does not a summer make. Fred gives the ball away time and again. What did Mourinho say? "Look where they play now.... IF they play"

Alex's Ferguson's wife Cathy Ferguson has died aged 84, met in 1964 and married in 1966. What Alex said when he retired from Man United.  'My wife Cathy has been the key figure throughout my career, providing a bedrock of both stability and encouragement. Words are not enough to express what this has meant to me.'   RIP

Nail on head with this.  Would Dan Burn, Longstaff, Schar, Almiron, Gordon be guaranteed starters for United?

Not many of the Man United first 11 would be guaranteed starters for Newcastle United either.

They would add some much needed balls to that United team. Ability is there with all of them but attitude stinks.

Been watching the Beckham doc on Netflix.

f**k me the English press and public really put the lad through the ringer following France 98! I'd forgotten Hoddle's pathetic failure to stand up for him at the time. I know part of the backlash came from the high profile celeb image he had been pursuing prior to the competition, but I was almost rooting for him in the footage of the two late corners in Barcelona the following year!

Maybe I'm mellowing in me auld age.
