Quote from: gallsman on October 02, 2023, 02:11:24 PMIt was suggested that ETH has been "dealing with the nonsense of the Glazers' ownership". I'm curious to know what United fans think exactly he's been dealing with. He's been given a fortune to spend. Joel Glazer isn't overseeing training and team selection.

Strictly on the management side of the club, putting "business people in place to make football decisions" is the biggest load of w**k. Who should be in charge? Giggs? Brucey? It's not about having "football people" in place. It's about having the right people in place, regardless of their background.

Was Ed Woodward someone who should have been making footballing decisions? Dealing in transfers and targets?

Where did you see me suggest any of those ex players? I am talking about people with a proven track record in being the Chief Operating Officer of the Sporting side of a club.

Then also go and get the best commercial director as well and let them run the business side. Pretty simple concept which is employed in most if not all successful sporting clubs, regardless of the sport actually.

Fair enough united are spending a lot of money but they are overspending for what they have gotten and Ten Hag along with the other managers in recent years constantly get their primary targets overlooked. Ten Hag made no secret that he wanted Harry Kane and he would have been the perfect striker for United for another 3/5 years but the business men didn't want to spend 100 million on someone with no resale value at the end of his contract. Ole and Mourinho have openly talked about how they wanted to sign A B and C but got X Y and Z instead. I watched amazon prime documentary on man city. In it pep needed a new centre back. He wrote down 3 names and he got the top name on his list which was Ameryic Laporte

From top to bottom Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal are well run clubs which allows Klopp,Pep and Arteta to get the best out of their teams.

If all three was managing United last season they wouldn't have done much better than Ten Hag did in his first season. Has to deal with a lot of injuries and off the field nonsense right now but unless results turn for the better quickly he'll be shown the exit door early in a season like Ole and Jose was in previous seasons as at the end of the day it's a result business.

Splashing cash isn't much use when a huge portion of it has been wasted. Recruitment has been awful for a decade, leaving Uniteds squad with many misfits and on high wages whereby it's a struggle for any new manager to offload them.

Woodward and Matt Judge hadn't a clue what they were at their replacements going by the summer transfer business aren't much better. By the end of it had to shop around for loan deals and that's the only business they'll likely be able to do in January window.

Who's wasting it though? Who wanted Antony?

Ten Hag wanted him in early May when United were quoted circa 50-60mil euros for him. Then the business men arsed about with Frenkie De Jong and ended up leaving it too late in the window for any real negotiations so they had United backed into a corner and they ended up paying 20+ million more for him

United regularly over pay for players, clubs selling players to them know this also. If it was the Glazers own money that was getting spent they'd put a lot more thought into the transfer business and contracts given to players.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Quote from: gallsman on October 02, 2023, 01:22:13 PMWhat do United fans believe the Glazers' ownership excuses in relation to ETH's management of the team?

They have consistently splashed the cash over and over again.

Exactly. The Glazer's don't  pick the team or  set up the team formation.

I was never  convinced by ETH.  Still aren't. Yes, the  squad is dire , but  he's spend big money , mostly on big time charlie's And  injury-prone players.

If this  run of results doesn't improve  , he'll be gone  in no time

FDJ is a central midfielder. Antony is a, supposed, winger. What has FDJ got to do with Antony being shit and increasingly looking like a terrible buy?

Because United could only get one of them. They thought they would have been able to get De Jong away from Barcelona due to his contract issues but United got strung along for far too long and by the end they turned their attentions back to Antony. He looks like a shit buy because he was heavily overpriced in the end. Had we got him for around 50 million euros like we could have it would have been much easier to digest his crap performances. Obviously the first season was going to be tough for him. He came to England not speaking a word of english which is understandable. Now his personal life has gotten in the way of his match perfomances/time

Same as most teams, hit a bad patch and keep losing you won't be around for long. Injury sitiution can't be ignored, even Liverpool had a run of poor results losing a number of games in Anfield when Klopp had to deal with injuries a few seasons ago. Man City lost to Wolves at the weekend would they have done so if the likes of Rodri,De Bruyne was available?

Squad is dire as you claim so you were hardly expecting ETH to have done better in his first season at the club? He doesn't set the transfer fees or wages players should get but his signings last season played their role in finishing 3rd in the league on 75 points winning a first trophy in six years.

Can think of a few big time charlie's he let go since arriving not sure whom he brought in would be described as that.

Man United are a bit shit this season.

Onana, Antony. EtH signings. Not good enough. That's on him unfortunately.

Very poor at the back. Zero concentration.

Only bright spark is Hojlund who looks like the real deal. Most others just there for the paycheque.

Onthe40

It's been said on here before
Varane, Erickson, casimera are has beens - all playing in central positions
Your bringing on martial & Anthony to win you a game .. enough said
The lack of quality is shocking

Not sure how much more of Utd I can take this season, and they've only played 10 games. Dreadful stuff there.

I think I said on this thread that Onana will change the way Utd play. Well I was 100% correct there but not in the way I intended. He's falling apart in goals.

Hojlund looks brilliant. Rashford looks devoid of any confidence. How many world class forwards are passing that ball he tried to give to Bruno? Personally think Bruno has been as bad as anyone in recent games too.

Ten Hag will need to turn things around quickly or he'll be facing the chop.
