United's player retention policy does seem altogether muddled.

For a decade or more now. Player signs initially on a huge wage, way above what he would earn almost anywhere else. After a mediocre few seasons he finally shows some form. He's immediately secured to a "double money" 3-season extension. Then he gets lazy and/or injury prone, and drops out of the starting team. He's offered around by the club, any offer welcome including free. The kind of clubs who used to pick up these spares from United though, they just cannot afford to destroy their wage structures, especially not for a player of now questionable ability, intent or injury proneness. So the player hangs around in limbo at United, occasionally picking up game time when the first choice players are tired / injured, but never bothered enough (or maybe not actually good enough) to reclaim a starting position.

Rinse and repeat.

It used to be the club that held the cards with players, I.e. if you were shit then you were sold. But over the past decade its became a joke. The number of deadwood United have had has been unreal. The players in question, the like of Jones, Fred, Maguire, Anderson, Cleverly, Fellaini, Sanchez, Falcao, Lingard, Pogba, Lukaku, Smalling, Martial, Bailly etc. have been the ones who have decided what they do, to stay at the club for as long as they want, with United powerless to get rid of them due to their contracts. You only have to look at every player that leaves United to see how messed up it is, they are basically given for free or for very little to allow the purchasing club to finance the wages. Look at Chelsea on the otherhand, constantly selling players for big money.

Martial isn't a United player, Antony, Dalot, AWB and Varane also.

Still huge problems and they continue to be shite in the market.

Has won numerous La Liga, Champions league titles and is a World Cup winner who is a Manchester United player if he isn't?

Why did Madrid sell him? We needed 24 year old Varane not this injured shithead, posting in performances, picking up a wage. A washed up goon.

Change of scenery and to try a new league.   Shithead usually means stupid or compulsive liar.  A goon is stupid/foolish or a violent, aggressive person who is hired to intimidate or harm people.   Did you just throw in random words there to form a sentence?

Varane has been  a very underwhelming signing.  I was expecting. a bit of aggression and  attacking the ball at  set pieces , but  he does neither

He reminds me  of the big  tall lad that’s thrown into full  back at u-14  level , just because he’s tall. Not for his  ability

How would in their prime Rio Ferdinand or Gary Pallister do by playing in the current Manchester United team? and I mention those two because were tall chaps and not overly known for their aggression and attacking the ball at set pieces.

What are the likes or Mount, Obama, and the new striker on per week?

That's all hypothetical  really.  They didn't score loads  from set pieces , but were solid  enough defenders.  However , there were plenty of others   capable  of stepping up  and  winning headers as getting stuck in when GP and Rio played .  I was hoping  that varane would have  brought some of that ,  as it's severely lacking in this  current team. But it  doesn't seem like he has , or will do

Change of scenery? Really? From Madrid to Manchester? He came for one reason. A huge payday.
He has zero interest. He won't head the ball, he won't challenge for the ball. He's allergic to playing two games in a row. He cannot be constantly injured or else Utd need to shoot their medical team.
He won loads with France and Madrid, with that experience he should come in and change that team. Like Cantona, Like Keane, like Vidic. But he has no interest. Madrid off loaded him. They knew what they were doing.

Yes really,  a decade is a long time at any club and Real Madrid was hardly paying him peanuts in his long spell with them.   Having looked it up "won't head the ball" and "allergic to playing two games in a row" is two myths.

Cantona, Keane and Vidic played in a strong team with a winning mentality much like the Real Madrid team that Varane left.

Who's injured again? Mr Raphael "The Man of Glass" Varane
His 9th since he joined. His injury record is not a myth. Madrid off loaded him for a reason.

Armamike

Madrid don't tend to sell too many players who are still able to cut it at the top level, i.e. who can perform  week in week out.
That's just, like your opinion man.

Getting injured isn't a myth as he got various injuries in his ten year spell with Real Madrid. The myths is that he's allergic to playing two games in a row and won't head the ball.
