Killeen , Kilcruise , Barrowhouse is an amalgamation that needs to happen. It's the only realistic chance at this stage for players from those clubs to win a senior championship been honest about it. Good luck telling the likes of John Conway that 😂😂
As a Gaels amalgamation it cant happen. Two senior clubs and a junior club.  :'( :'(

Kilcruise have won a county
Yes Kilcruise have won a championship , but my point is in the short and long term future it dosent look like they are gonna repeat that feat again as a club on their own especially with all the key players well into their 30s some even over 40

Don Draper

No arguments, merely pointing out the fact that they went out on their own and made the summit, a fact that deserves recognition. Its easy to chip at the Arles', but its not our local row, and mediation in the past has failed. Either they fix it themselves, or nature will take its course.

High Fielder

They've recognised the need to join up with Na Fianna Og. The deficiency has already been addressed. It would be done long ago but for some Dinosaurs knocking around. It was an amazing achievement for Kilcruise but lest we forget they had history way before that. Build bridges and get over them.

Anyone hear Chris Conway on Colm Parkinson's podcast?

I never knew the actual origins.

Contradicts a lot of what was said on this thread.

Don't be fooled by it either, I'm sure he's giving a fairly one sided view of it. He's not exactly a neutral in the whole thing. Found he contradicted himself over mainly the name of the club thing. He said they offered to add "Killeen" but the other side said no- then the other side did exactly that? Can't see why they wouldn't have wanted to be acknowledged

Verbal

But, they chose another name when they formed their club. In the hope of it being a step towards a united parish team with Ballylinan.
So there is some plausibility in it.

Smallballoverbigball

My understanding is that they kept the Arles because they were found to be the original club? Hence why kilcruise had to begin at junior B? Killeen wanted to be recognised and that's why it was Arles Kilcruise?

I'm just saying I would believe the general story that has been heard and similar to what wooly had said at the beginning over someone from a family who was in the heart of it (regardless of what side they were from)

Laoiseabu

Would I be correct in saying that Killeen would have a bigger catchment area than Kilcruise ?
Killeen have a few houses in Killeen village and their area runs along the Kildare border from Barrowhouse down to Knockbeg. A lot of big farmland but not many houses .
Kilcruise on the other hand seem to have a tiny tiny area , they have the Kilcruise GAA pitch side of Arles village and the OKellys pub side of Ballickmoyler . The opposite side of the road is Killeen territory.
Do Kilcruise have much of a pick outside the village ? Because there seems to be very few houses and they are tightly tightly cornered by Killeshin , Crettyard and Joseph's on the other side

Verbal

Well no
It seems like St Michael's entered a team for 1995 (now AKilleen)
And seeing as they weren't using the Arles name, the new club entered Junior B as Arles

Arles Killeen during exist at this point.
If the cause of the split was adding Killeen to Arles, surely the club that registered as St Michael's for 1995 would have registered as Killeen or Arles Killeen?

In this sense, what Chris says stacks up/makes sense.
A crew from Killeen end wanted to force through a merger of Ballylinan and Arles as St Michael's.
Didn't work,
A split happened

They went with the name of St Michael's(rather than Arles) expecting the other clubs to fold/assimilate into theirs.
It didn't go that way.
3/4 years later they decided they wanted the name Arles back.

Verbal

Rte should do a Scannal episode of it.
And don't include Stephen Miller.
The time it would take for him laughing at his own pre planned jokes would mean the show would overrun

High Fielder

Any youngster in that area plays their football with Na Fianna Og. They go their separate ways when they reach adult grade. Common sense is telling them what to do next, but petty rivalry holds them back. If you threw them all together with Ballylinan and Barrowhouse, you'd just about have a football club. Doing Joseph's work for them year after year

It is crazy that the split happened just as the original Arles (both clubs) was about to produce a group of players that would have potentially dominated the Laois senior championship. Talk about bad timing

High Fielder

Isn't that exactly what causes these splits though Joey? Some bright spark looks around and says hold on, we can go it alone. Fast forward a few years and they'll be nowhere near Senior because they're no more than a space on the road between bigger towns. I'm all for encouraging youngsters to play, but such splits are a curse. There are lads playing football in those clubs who really should be retired. No offence to them
