I don't think so Trevor seems a fairly level headed kind of guy and probably a very good coach. By all accounts the young lad is one of the best players on the team so will be walking into it anyway. Just seems like they're going to lose a good coach!

The latest with Galway in finding a replacement for Padraic Joyce

After the nomination process closed last Friday none of the county's clubs nominated a candidate for the vacancy as manager of the county's senior football side, but it is believed that a number of interested candidates have expressed a confidential interest to the Galway County Board.

The Galway County Board is understood to be speaking to all applicants over the coming days before finalising those selected for interview, with aim of having the process completed by the weekend of October 10, which is when the county senior and intermediate Gaelic football championship semi-finals are scheduled to take place

Could it be third time a charm for Monaghan and Banty McEnaney? As Declan Bogue reveals he is in line for a sensational return as manager.

Former Monaghan manager Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney could be in line for a return to take charge of his native county, a post he previously held twice.

Its understood that McEnaney is in the process of pulling together a backroom team to potentially fill the vacant post.

Some coaches have been subject to direct approaches, while others have been sounded out by county board intermediaries.
McEnaney could face some competition for the role.

Andy McEntee, who was a selector under Gabriel Bannigan in 2026, has been popping up at recent club games around the county and there is speculation he is planning to let his name go forward.


Other candidates linked with the job include Martin Corey. The coach of Cavan when they landed the Ulster title in 2020, he also coached Monaghan under his brother Vinny for 2023 and 2024.
Corey was in charge of Down senior outfit Kilcoo this season, who bowed out of the county championship at the semi-final over the weekend.
Scotstown manager David McCague could be another possible option. He previously served as a coach and selector under McEnaney in his second spell.

Éamonn Fitzmaurice is in advanced talks with the Galway County Board to take over the manager's position vacated by Pádraic Joyce in early September.

It is understood the Finuge clubman has engaged positively with Galway chairman Paul Bellew in recent weeks and is the leading candidate to take charge of the Tribesmen's senior footballers.

A three-time All-Ireland winner as a player, Fitzmaurice managed Kerry for six years between 2013 and 2018, leading the Kingdom to Sam Maguire glory in 2014.

He also claimed six straight Munster SFC titles and an Allianz League title during his time in charge.

In recent years he has become known as one of RTÉ Sport's best analysts and co-commentators, also writing a column for the Irish Examiner.

He remained involved with the club scene in his native Kerry, coaching the Clifford brothers' club Fossa in 2022 as they claimed a junior All-Ireland title.

He was one of the most prominent members of the Football Review Committee, which introduced, trialled and refined the new playing rules that many see as having a revitalising effect on the game since their introduction in 2015.

The FRC chairman Jim Gavin was also linked with the Galway role in recent weeks but the record-breaking former Dublin boss is reportedly no longer in the running despite conversations with board representatives.
