What happened in the Longstone v Liatroim game on Friday night? Have both clubs dropped the points, or will there be a replay?

Is Eugene Branagan still on the down panel?

No, hasn't played any for Down this year.

Leitrims tweet which has been since deleted and just as well said "Game abandoned as referee hasn't ability to control the match"

Not the first social media outburst Liatroim have had against a referee

as far as I heard, there was lots of fights and off the ball stuff going on, ref told both managers if it continued he would stop the match, it did so he abandoned the match.

Can see pros and cons to this becoming established practice.

Early abandonment in a tight game referee just right - they didn't sign up to referee a boxing match and its hard enough to get referees.

But what if one team knew they were going to lose with 5 mins to go and started rows?

If that's obvious it will be detailed in the referee's report. Of course, it might not be obvious but if the winning team are happy to engage then it's tough shit really.
On the tweet, that's language I've heard all my life. Field fights involving over 20 men are the fault of the referee as he couldn't control the game. Absolves everyone from having control of themselves.

I do understand the concerns about a precedent being set. Do it enough times and a referee will eventually turn a bout of fisticuffs into a DRA case that the clubs involved cannot lose.

But, still, it's the correct approach. Our games won't tidy themselves up without some introspection and understanding. An early and conclusive whistle will move that along quicker than any county board administration can.

Referees have a very difficult job and we have a severe shortage of them.. when a referee asks management to calm their players down and the players don't react appropriately  - he is dead right to walk off the pitch. It's called having respect and the teams clearly had very little to none for each other and for the person in charge of officiating the game..

Referees have the powers to send off individuals for fighting, contributing to a melee etc etc so do that rather than walk off the pitch.

I'm old school, back in the day you'd have gotten a 1 month or maybe a 3 month ban across all codes and grades for fighting, throwing a punch or hitting with the hurl. A headbutt was 6 months FFS.

Now most players are only looking at 1 or 2 game bans for similar, the punishment needs to fit the crime and I'd suggest the leniency of these suspensions really does need looked at as there needs to be a deterrent.

Quiet build up on here to tomorrow's match. Hopefully the team can get the job done after disappointing days in croke park recently against Meath and Westmeath. For me, going by the team named it would be a surprise if Ceilium Doherty doesn't start and maybe also Finn McElroy.

Hopefully a big Down support travelling down, good luck to players and management

I heard Celium Doherty was injured, not sure how serious or accurate that information is though.

I could see McGovern starting in place of McCrickard.
