Taking into account the Rhu bias in these parts, the poll shows a huge lead for Ros.

Nah. The Mayo vote will be split between our 'glorious failures'. That was some Ros. team but 1 final appearance was a poor return for a team with the quality they had. They pissed on Conacht teams but calved in Croke Park as badly as any Mayo team has done since.

At least we lost to good teams. Who ever heard the like of Meath again? Do they even still play football? Losing to Cork in football? Seriously? Kerry, in '90s? A Dublin team with no backs or midfield?

If you're going to lose, lad, make it happen to the greatest team of all time.

]You fight the good fight I ll admit! But even in Kerry they ll be hard pushed to divide the team of the 70s/80s and the team that did us in 04'06. Pony v Horse? Paudi V Marc? Darragh V Jacko? Declan O Sull v Ă“gie,?Gooch V Mikey. Galvin V Power? Need I go on?

And much as I admire that Ros team I have to point out that they calved it up in that semi v Armagh. We ve been accused of being brittle down the years but a mature Ros team blew that game. Earley, Freyne, Keegan, Lindsay, Heneghan, O Gara were old soldiers that day against an Ulster team when probably Ulster was at its lowest level ever. That was a good Armagh team but hardly great.

Captain Obvious

Kerry in the early, mid 00s were unable to beat Tyrone or Armagh. Armagh were a very good side in 1977 and 1980. Kerry in 70s,80s were the best teams ever.

Got hockeyed in the final in 77 and made the semi in 80 - hardly up there with the best team not to win an AI.

Plain of the Herbs

Offaly in 1960 and 1961.

Down were reputed to be the greatest team of all time to that point and proved it by handing heavy defeats to Kerry in those years.  Down had the innovative roving forwards, overlapping half-backs and they 'broke' the ball at midfield.

Offaly held those Down forwards to 1-10 (1960 semi-final drawn game), 1-7 (1960 replay) and 3-6 (1961 Final, when losing by a single point).

Agree.. That was a brilliant Offaly team and would have won an all Ireland in any other era apart from the mid/late 70's

A team that eventually wins one doesn't count. Cherry-picking periods of ultimately successful teams warps the spirit of the thread if not the rules of it.

Monaghan 1985 should be in that poll.

SkillfulBill

Tyrone 95/96 should read Peter Canavan 95/96 some serious passangers on that team. Tyrone of the mid 80s were a great side and could or should have won it in 86. How many sides have been up by 7pts with 20 mins to go in an All-ireland final only to be beaten by 8 pts. Had Tyrone been playing anybody else that day other than the greatest team of all time they would have won it. That had to be the biggest comeback in an all-Ireland final.

If Roscommon 1977-80 is in the poll, then Armagh 1977-80 should be in it as well, as they actually beat Roscommon in 1977, and ran out of steam in their semi final of 1980.That team contained 4 All Stars, Moriarity, Smyth, Kernan and Mc Kinstry, as well as Brian Mc Alinden who was nominated as goalkeeper on the team of the 80s recently
