Quote from: Armamike on October 07, 2026, 09:16:07 AMThought she had died years ago.  Two all-time classic movies.

And mentioned in a Lloyd Cole song!

That song lyric has stuck in my head for 40 years!
That's just, like your opinion man.

Antrim Coaster

He was diagnosed 8 - 10 weeks ago.

A teak tough hurler who was part of the great Derry hurling team late 90's / early noughties.

Hard as nails who played it tough and fair.

An absolute sound lad off the field.

Lavey played in the Antrim minor leagues for a couple of years unfortunately lol! f**k those games were tough up there, they backboned a lot of that Derry team with Dungiven at the time, maybe won the minor Ulster championship and went on to win Senior
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Quote from: Deerstalker on October 06, 2026, 09:57:36 PMBenny Ward Derry & Lavey, early 50s maybe ? Very sad. He was a tough character. Couldn't see it mentioned anywhere else

When was DS, what happened?

Hadn't heard that one and it has shocked me, great lad

Just yesterday NAG1, he had cancer apparently and unfortunately didn't have it that long, an aggressive one.

RIP Benny. Sound lad I'd the privilege of playing with at UUJ and have worked with him on and off for 15 odd years.

He'd pancreatic cancer, diagnosed about June time, sad news for Stella and the three kids and the Ward family.

There's no good cancer but pancreatic is up there with the worst in terms of outcome. Poor fella was no age too.

,  Just echoing what others have said ,Benny was a warrior on the pitch and a gentleman off it as well as being a great servant for  Lavey and Derry on the pitch, he had been putting so much work in with coaching underage teams in Lavey and with Derry Development squads in recent years also

That's so sad. Poor lad, and his wife and kids. Just starting out.

Only case in the country. Life can be so random and cruel. Makes you appreciate how stupid and minor some of the shit that stresses us really is.
