some of the selections make a mockery of the process down through the years.

Think it's under 23 to be eligible for YPOTY. O Connor would have another 2 years. He will probably make it 3 in a row this year.
Frightening how good he's going to be in a few years. He's taking frees off the ground with his left now in training. Expect him to be using right and left off the ground next year.

Didn't he take them from the left in the final? But yeah he should be well able for them next year.
If he can improve a few percentages over the next few years from open play he's going to be something else for us.

Taking them with his left foot off the ground I mean. 45's included. Said he's about 90% of where he is with his right at the moment.

Yeah but how long does he take over them?  :)

With Tony Kelly a cert for hurler of the year, will this be the only occasion the player of the year was also eligible for young player of the year in either code?

Tony Kelly should get both awards, shambles if he won the senior and wasn;t given the young player award.

As for the football, I think Cluxton will get POTY and McCaffrey could get young POTY.  Be a joke if Cillian O'Connor got it again, you would swear he was the most prodigious talent the GAA has seen in years.

McCaffrey was completely anonymous in both the semi-final and final. It would be a bigger joke if he got it, other than he's a new face.

He was brilliant throughout the league and also in the Leinster Championship.

2013 All-Ireland Football champions Dublin lead the way in this year's GAA GPA Football All-Stars sponsored by Opel after nominations for this year's award have been confirmed.

The Sky Blue's successful campaign, which ended with a final win over Mayo on September 22, has been rewarded with 12 nominations and is followed by the ten recorded by Mayo.

I'm gonna show you as gently as I can how much you don't know.

Cillian O'Connor shouldn't be next nor near any player award this year.
I'd have Mickey Newman ahead of him.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

O'Connor scored far more in the rounds that Newman played in. Top scorer in the Championship despite only playing around 3.6 matches and only half fit for one of them.

Looking at that list, O'Connor will get an All-Star.

Tut tut Jinxy. O Connor has to get it if he is nominated. The other 2 nominees while top class young players did falter when it was on the line. And they were not carrying injuries and played all games at home with experienced AI winning players around them. It s the most clear cut award of the lot. If O Connor does not get it, forget about it.
The Mayo nominations tells us all we need to know about Mayo.

Goalie - check.

6 defenders - check ( Cunniffe, one of our best defenders all year not even nominated because injuries took him out in games when he was really going well).

2 midfielders - check.

After that we ve got one forward nomination for a lad with a strapped shoulder for last 12 months. And very hard to even make a case for another forward.  Getting to an AI final and getting 1 injured forward nominated from a category of 18 tells its own story. Donie Buckley was great on coaching the tackle but what de f**k was the story with forward selection, coaching  and tactics - and spare me the crap about lack of marquee shite.
