If ever you wanted an example of a scoreline not giving a true reflection, that was it.  Not a huge deal for Westmeath to lose it, full focus on Carlow now.  Well done Derry.

Strange. When Meath lose a final they usually get the title as consolation.

Wasn't a six point game bad mistake by the Westmeath goalkeeper at the end.

Well done Derry and in particular Brian Mc Iver who has more than turned round the fortunes of a Derry ship that had badly ran aground.

Derry in last year's league were a complete and utter shambles.

Brian has worked marvels again.

Dont Matter

Well played Derry, deserved their win. Lacking a bit to challenge in Ulster I think but McIvor on the right track for sure.

Derry were impressive, James Kiellt hit a few great points. Charlie Kielt, Mark Lynch and Patsy Bradley has good games too. Eoin Bradley had a good first half and a very poor second half. Very inconsistent player

It was great game to watch, great scores by both sides. John Heslin showed very well for Westmeath. Still 20, will be some player in a few more years.

Never a 6 point game is right, we were sure it was going to end in a draw. The starts to the first and the second half cost us. Derry targeted that and made hay in both halves, Eoin Bradley in particular. For some reason Kevin Maguire was a yard behind him but he tightened up as the game progressed. Once we dropped a sweeper in front of them we negated that particular threat. We weren't prepared for the wide man drifting in behind our defence either, which resulted in overlaps. We dragged ourselves back into it through some outstanding points from McCormack, Glennon and Egan. The 3 points conceded before half time and the long wait deflated us for the start of the second. Also we weren't winning enough ball in midfield, both clean and breaking, which was putting us under sustained pressure.

All that said we were there or thereabouts at the end. Dessie gave us some impetuous and we need him on for longer, maybe should look at doing a Canavan with him. Fair play to Derry for sneaking it at the end and it's a good thing the ball was stuck in the net at the end as I don't believe the ball had crossed the line beforehand. Unlike the umpire who had the green flag in the air as the ball hit the net. Lots to take out of that and room for improvement ahead of our first Leinster game in the park in donkeys years.
