Greta Thunberg has joined a pro-Palestinian backlash against Ed Sheeran after a rapper was dropped from the British singer's US tour.

The Swedish activist said Sheeran being "cancelled" showed that "global consciousness has shifted" in support of Palestinian causes.

Ed, there is only one victim'
Ms Thunberg said in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday: "We are witnessing one of the biggest artists in the world being cancelled because they tried to 'both sides' Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people

This is a clear and undeniable sign that the global consciousness has shifted. The normalisation of an apartheid state, and the attempts to sanitise or justify its actions, will no longer be tolerated.

"Ed, there is only one victim here: the Palestinian people."
He told the crowd: "A big part of the reason why I wanted to do this tour in the first place is so that I could stand up in stadiums like this and say two words that are very, very dear to my heart: free Palestine."

The rapper then performed his song Hind's Hall, which pays tribute to Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl who was targeted and killed by Israeli fire, while footage of Gaza devastation played on the big screen.
Roger Waters, the Pink Floyd co-founder and bassist, criticised Sheeran in a post on X, calling him a "p---k" for doing "the wrong thing", while praising Macklemore for doing "the right thing".

The Israeli-American Council claimed Macklemore had used his platform to "advance a one-sided political agenda" and called for his removal.

Elan Carr, the chief executive of the Israeli-American Council, which started a petition to have Macklemore removed from the tour, called the rapper's actions "outrageous" on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, claiming his words "slander the State of Israel and the Jewish people" and called them "a blood libel".

Macklemore, known for hits including Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us, has long been an outspoken advocate for Palestinians.

Sheeran's next performance is scheduled for Sept 19 at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where Graham and Rowe were supposed to open.

He has 17 dates still left on the tour across North and South America, with the final show scheduled for Dec 11 in Mexico City.

Combined, the 2,023 Allied aircraft involved dropped about 3,000 tons of bombs. That's 7.5 percent of what Trump is sending to Israel. That same month, March of 1945, the US Army Air Forces began the single most destructive bombing raid in human history, Operation Meetinghouse over Tokyo. More than 100,000 Japanese civilians were killed. By the end of that operation, the US had dropped 1,600 tons of bombs. That's four percent of what Trump is sending to Israel. World War Two ended five months later, when the US dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. The shipment Trump is sending to Israel amounts to more than three times the destructive power of that nuclear explosion. There is no precedent for what the Trump administration is doing.

Nor is there a justification. The government of Israel is not fighting World War Two, or even a war. It is engaged in periodic skirmishes with a guerrilla force in Lebanon, and it is working to exterminate an unarmed civilian population in Gaza. Neither front requires modern 2,000-pound bombs.
