In other news, Fr. Manning Gaels, robbed of a Leinster Senior final appearance in 1998, are relegated from Intermediate to Junior for 2027.

Congratulations Laurel on winning yesterday. A hard fought win and well-deserved. Ye don't deserve to be in intermediate. If a kick of a ball went your way in the group stages you'd have been in a qtr final and could well be preparing for a senior semi next week.

Unbelievable to think the Gaels are gone to Junior when you think of the force they once were, but that was a long time ago now. Their team just doesn't seem to have any injection of new life in a long time. No guarantee that they'll bounce back out of Junior in one year. However, their underage is yielding a few promising teams so they will eventually climb out of the depths again.

A free not dubiously brought 50m forward at the end of the Abbey game would have been enough for a quarter-final, but realistically I think we'd have struggled beyond that point. It's a case of trying to maintain our position in senior while bringing the next generation through over the coming years after the recent bottleneck.

FMG are the cautionary example for the "rebuild at Intermediate" school of thought. It's baffling given their resources in terms of population.

I do think that the Gaels should be able to make it back out of Junior next year given the lack of competition (Kenagh and Legan) but making it stick will be the issue.

Of course, the predictable efforts by certain clubs in South Longford to stay up in Senior regardless of their results are starting already.

Surprised with the Intermediate result. I know Mostrim have pedigree at Senior but I felt Grattans would make the breakthrough this year and they would relish a crack at the Senior sides next year. Good young talent there. I think their day will come yet.

Mostrim seemed to have a lot of younger players today (or at least ones who weren't there in the group stage) to balance the older heads and it definitely told both at midfield and upfront.
