Millions lost before the buildings came down in various wars/proxy's, acted as a catalyst for the 'war on terror' which in turn 'allowed' the US to have carte blanche with world politics/war and enforcing things openly rather than the behind the scenes they'd been doing for years.

A shocking time that changed the world and terrible for those families who lost loved ones.

Unfortunately countless families suffered shattering losses before and since that doesn't really register in the grand scheme of things. Cities levelled burying innocents in far off places or indeed Iranian or Libyan passenger jets full of people getting shot down don't count or need to be mentioned when talking about international terrorism.

The level of intended terror however that was unleashed on the western world in 9/11, the london attacks etc... was unparalleled. Terror, not just destruction. It was designed for maximum chaos, pain, confusion - sheer terror.

Israel aside, I do not think that was ever the MO of the US or UK in their responses and the execution of the "war on terror".
