Other than celebs like Bertie, does anyone know how big the Oirish edition of the NotW is? Any journalists that I might be bothered about?

I have a cousin works with them here, reckons not many staff on the ground at all. they're all goosed though i'd say, just to keep the digger out of pokey. The ginger one must know where a lot of bodies are buried.

Seafoid, you're a man after my own heart and thanks for posting the Guardian link.
The influence of the Sun and NOTW is the most malign I have come across in British society. After our visitor in May we all remembered that when we worked in England/met them on holidays etc. we actually got on OK with the English. Yet something wasn't right about them. Murdoch must bear most responsibility but the scumbags who influenced things there ( going back years and including the whole Gotcha/Belgrano brigade) were, for me, the problem.
I had a mate who was convicted of rioting at Wapping when News International set up there in the late 80s ; I thought he was a bit mad at the time but now I think-fair play to him.
Boycott the Sun and whatever bastardised spawn emerges from the NOTW.

Am I the only person who neither leaves nor listens to voicemail?
Not on my mobile, though I do have 1571 on BT.

Supposedly Brooks had to be escorted out of her offices by building security guards this evening.

Lucky she wasn't torn apart, basically telling a couple of hundred people they're fckd to save her skin. NI have blocked twitter in the building. I hope the multitudes of disgruntled ex employees keep the heat up.

Hard to boycott it when I am more likely to read half a turnip than that rag.

Nope, hate leaving them and seldom listen to mine. Keep getting messages stating i have them, if its important they will ring back.

Jesus, News International is rotten.
It reminds me of the fall of FF.

The NUJ has published the following statement on its website:

In solidarity with colleagues at the News of the World, tonight Sub-Editors at The Sun newspaper have walked out of work in protest.

At the same time as the protest, inside the building, News of the World staff were being told about the redundancies.

The company has told staff they will receive a 90 day payment which covers the legally required consultation period for job cuts.

This exposes the cynical deceit of James Murdoch who earlier today said: "We will communicate next steps in detail and begin appropriate consultation."

9.14pm: There's been more reports of the anger in at Wapping when News of the World staff were informed the title was to be shut.

One member of staff described the reaction to Brooks announcement as "a seething fury", Sky News reports. Another told the broadcaster: "She has kept her job and sacrificed the jobs of 500 people to do so."

It'd be foolish to think Murdoch's babies are alone here. I'd imagine almost every tabloid and broadsheet has their hands dirty here. They just haven't been found out yet.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

I am in real turmoil here as to whether to hit the Dirty Dagger in the pocket and cancel my £1 monthly subscription to the Times..............

Did anyone watch QT last night?  Was basically an hour devoted to this, Hugh Grant in fine fettle leading the 'crusade' against all things Murdoch.  He still came across as a pompous prat tbh, Shirley Williams wiped the floor with all of them though!

Agreed. Anyone who thinks that Irish "journalism" don't use the same tactics is deluding themselves

It would be foolish to absolve Murdock's babies on the premise: 'they are all at it'. They should lock anyone up that is known to be involved so far and keep investigating imho.

Without a doubt they're all at it. Why else was there very little coverage about this in the papers until this week, bar the Guardian.

This is fascinating

The police and the power of the Murdoch press and how the scandal is now out of control

Great stuff there from Nick Davies.
